Premier League Gameweek 29

Bali is a lovely place for a holiday. The flight time from you home planet must be horrific though.

Sure, it will take a few light years but I think I'll manage. By the time I land, maybe Chelsea will have had a manager who has won them 4 PL titles.

Jose will probably come back home and do it soon enough, one he gets sick of living out of his suitcase in a hotel.

Lol do you really think Jose will ever return to Chelsea after what has been happening? He is someone who thrives on respect, love and support, and when the Chelsea fans jeered him last week I think it upset him more than he let on. Thus the stinging rebuke. It is not common for managers to directly criticize fans. I don't think there will be a third Mourinho stint at Chelsea no matter how his time at United pans out. Too much bad blood. He will probably have a hard time even going back as a spectator, let alone as manager.

 Respect, love and support are definitely the three words I instantly associate with Mourinho.

I am late twenties, work in London at a prestigious investment bank, and have a first class honours degree. I have followed PL football since 1997 and was in the stands in Wembley as a young lad when we beat Newcastle to win the FA Cup, which was the second leg of the Treble. Please do not condescend me. It's unnecessary.

 Investment bank and first class degree - great way to ask for less condescension.

As for your comments about my criticism of Chelsea's playing style, it is not true that they have always been a reactive, boring side. The first Mourinho team played some absolute end to end stuff. The Ancelotti double winning team won by playing free flowing football and broke the points record, and won the title in style with multiple 6-0 and 7-0 wins. In the title clinching game they won 8-0 and their attacking trio consisted of Drogba, Malouda and Anelka, who player for player have less quality than the trio of Costa, Hazard and Willian. So your statement isn't necessarily true.

As for your reference to the "Ferguson 1-0 sides", Man United played attacking end to end football for the majority of his reign at the club. It was a common refrain at the time amongst United fans that we didn't mind conceding 3 goals as long as we scored 4. We had multiple high scoring games almost every season and it was certainly not a defensive team renowned for grinding out 1-0 results. So I have no idea what you're talking about when you refer to Fergie as a 1-0 manager. In fact there are some similarities between his playing style and the current Liverpool playing style except he won, and he didn't cause his players to be exhausted. Instead he rotated well, and he instilled in the players tremendous mental resilience by creating a siege mentality. The exact same thing Mourinho is renowned for today.

The ultimate team for grinding out 1-0 wins was George Graham's Arsenal but maybe you're too young to remember that team.
" “I won so many matches and titles in my career the other way round, being safe, being in control and waiting for the mistake. I bite you, goodbye." There's a difference between having entertaining games and being an entertaining manager, Mourinho by his own admission is very forthright in admitting his playstyle can quite conceivably be construed as negative. Pointing to his big victories as a symbol of an attacking manager full of verve building a side profligate in front of goal, just highlights the fact you're cherry picking facts to suit which agenda takes your fancy at whatever fleeting moment.

I also did clearly say by and large,(which quite clearly leaves rooms for rare exceptions) Ancelotti's side played some great stuff, hell Conte has them playing some great football at times. But if you cant discern the difference between them and say an Arsenal or a Liverpool then you lack the foresight and ability to read between the lines. So if you're still unable to grasp that then honestly I'd start doing more reading and less posting.

Ferguson had a reputation for attacking football, the quality of which dipped in his final years, he also knew when to grind out 1-0 wins and its absolute ludicrous to suggest otherwise unless of course you want to detract and dissipitate his qualities as a manager just to further your own agenda. Ferguson was an attacking manager who primarily won games through immense atracking quality in conjuction with incredible mental resillience and a never say die attitude. Do you see the difference between that and Mourinho now? An attacking manager capable of defensive games and an defensive manager capable of entertaining games. Being a skilled expert marksman and knowing how to wield a sword, you dont suddenly ask to bring the sword to the gun fight.

...walks in thread hoping for interesting discussion about matches this weekend

..walks out again

A few games spring to mind

- Chelsea 4-2 Barcelona in the CL, Mourinho's first season

- Chelsea 3-2 Liverpool in the LC final, Mourinho's first season

- both CL games against Bayern in his first season

- Liverpool 1-4 Chelsea, PL, second season

So much for Mourinho being a defensive coach and parking the bus in big games. All of the above were big games. Or maybe you just refuse to accept that he did very well for your club, and it was your club that screwed him over? Chelsea fans have been adopting a revisionist perspective towards Mourinho this whole season which is hypocritical at its worst because once upon a time he was your saviour. Conte's football is boring and reactive (similar to Jose's second Chelsea team), and is nowhere near as exciting as his first Chelsea team. But of course, he is shit because he finished 10th, he is also a "Judas" (for being sacked), he couldn't manage the players (who actually betrayed him), Conte is the greatest managerial legend ever, etc.

Meanwhile Jose has won league titles in 4 countries and won the CL twice so I doubt he cares. Like the man himself said, until you have a manager who wins 4 PL titles, you should stop with the snide remarks and actually respect the guy.
Always suspected you're a YouTube highlights fan. I agree with the other poster. There's no way you were actually old enough to have been a football fan 10-13 years ago. Either that or you're not young but only started following football recently. Those are the only explanations for this post, honestly.

"End to end stuff", "truly exciting"...05-07 Chelsea? We loved our team and adored Jose but you won't find a single Chelsea fan (or even Jose himself) describing our football during that period that way. Maybe you should actually ask a Chelsea fan (or just about any PL fan who wasn't a kid during that period) rather than watching YouTube highlights and reading from Wikipedia.

(Joins him straight after)

Hey wait for me!
Hold the door!

Rashford's not as good a finisher as I thought he was. Seen a number of dead cert chances he has squandered recently. Martial would bury those in a heartbeat.

United should of been 3 up but Boro creating a couple of chances now.

Don't think Boro have been bad at all. They can still equalize.

Its not over by any stretch. United defending solid despite giving up a few half chances.
Watching that goal again alot of it is on Valdes getting caught in no mans land.

Rashford also needs to come off soon. He lacks a good finishing.

He's lacking the killer instinct of last season this term for some reason. Just needs a couple of soft goals for him confidence back I think. Missed a soft one earlier.

Come off?! He's causing the defenders all sorts of problems with his pace, especially the LB.

Yes, he could have done better with his chance but you don't take a player off just because he misses a chance.

Clearly came from a non United fan!

He's doing fine, just needs a touch more luck/composure and I don't think Martial or Miky are in peak health to come on!

Edit: RB.
Maybe a bit harsh. Just that if you want to finally kill a game off you need someone with a better finishing than Rashford today (it's clear i am not saying he is shit ;) )

Boro are going down. Great finish from Lingard though.

Good goal Lingaard, game over. Boro have been plucky but just lack talent.
