Premier League 25/1/25 - 26/1/25

Let's say it's a red because:

It stops a counter
It's from behind
There is no intention to steal it, juts fouling
and there is a bit of plugs implied.

Still? too harsh for a red because he clearly just wanted to stop the play, without doing extreme dammage. The ref should have tempered his reaction and just show a yellow one.

The only thing I can think could motivated him to show a red, is if the player priorly was making many fouls and he was warned, which also would be a mistake, because Refs have yellows instead of warnings.
Since I just watch the red play, I dunno, but with no prior yellow and just a warning, again not a red.

Down the drain? I forgot you can’t beat Wolves with 10 men
Nope. As soon as we go a man down we get defensive.
That is a huge difference between Liverpool and us.
Liverpool is win at all cost
Arteta is don’t lose at all cost.
(Personally admire Liverpools approach here)

I mentioned earlier that Perry Groves on Talksport said the other referees are scared of Oliver, they see him as refereering heirarchy. Look at what happened with that pen in our game against West Ham when he was on VAR.

yes, but there are countless examples of it around this referee. I just dont understand it. he seems completely beyond reproach, and for all of their protecting of him and media spin of him, there isnt a ref in the country who makes as many big calls and gets them so wrong. there is a real concern about why the var official hasnt just told him he's got that wrong. its an awful call and although arsenal are faltering anyway, its a potentially title defining call come the end of the season. it may not be of course, but its just too big a mistake to make. 100 out of 100 fans would say its a yellow.

Very clearly onside this Gakpo goal? Why the feck is English VAR this slow.

Also, what is Slot feeding Gakpo, he's starting to look like an actual top player.

I’m one who believes blatant cynical fouls should be punishable by reds, but until they apply that across the board, this is pretty horrendous reffing.

Yes don't disagree with you on that point. Consistency is the biggest issue on most things though innit?

Every fan will be able to cite an example where one of their players was penalised for something that four other players got away with in the same match week

Gundogan and Kovacic in midfield for us vs Chelsea. 0-3 incoming.

Hoping we're going 433 with Kova at 6 and both Bernardo and Gundo at 8 for some stability but it'll probably be 4231 with Bernardo rw and Marmoush at 10 (benching KDB, exactly what I said he was brought in for.)

Talksport thought it was a ridiculous decision, so they weren't protecting him. Bet Dermot Gallagher does on Monday though.

Interesting to see how Khusanov does. Big test for him in his first game.

Coming up against the mighty Jadon Sancho.

Liverpool are going to be a problem aren't they for a few years. They'll only strengthen in the summer and they appear to have got their mojo back

I’m a bit concerned. No idea what kind of City I should expect today.

i think this is the decision that will turn a few. if you have to say 'thats a bad decision by our best referee' 10 times a season, then he isnt our best referee. thats a genuine shocker, and its the manner of his calls - theyre always once that place him at the very centre of things when if he gave a yellow nobody , not even wolves, would complain.

It's not just the fans, not even the Wolves players were calling for a red card. And he mad the decision instantly and without hesitation. And then booked Rice for protesting. It's a joke.

It wasn't even a fiery game that any ref would find difficult to control. He just randomly decided that this game of football wasn't about Michael Oliver to the extent that he would like and turned himself into the centre of attention. Again.

This is what enrages me the most. Even with decisions that are nothing to do with Arsenal. We don't turn up or tune in for Michael Oliver.

If Lewis Skelly gets his red turned over, does this mean that Oliver is dropped for the next round of games and the PGMOL apologise (e.g. like the refs for the Wolves/Man Utd opening game last season were dropped instantly)

its the worst call ive seen in a long time, and i say that having been infuraited by two of the worst calls ive ever seen against united, both this season. His run of inexplicable decisions is incredible. most arent even 60:40, its just a stream of moments he made himself the headlines and most important person on the pitch.

Refs have a tough job, but in the same breath, there is a wide range of human personalities out there- Im convinced Oliver has narcissitic personality disorder.

Pep has wasted no time integrating two of his new signings into the starting lineup for the match against Chelsea.

hes had it tough to be fair, a couple of injuries and now he has to figure out how to get 110m pounds worth of january signings into his starting line up. tough gig i dont envy him
