PL L FA Premier League

West Ham United 1:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 07 May 2023

Ole went a whole season unbeaten away from home, he lost it towards the end but the players showed a bit of fight under him.

I can remember two come back wins all season, Everton and City and the city one swung on a bullshit offside call.

Under ETH we’ve shown no mentality what so ever, this isn’t just an end of season thing, it’s an all season thing
I'm don't disagree with any of that but not sure how it relates to what I posted?

Edit; by pressure I mean physical pressing. Hopefully that clears up what I meant.

What fantastic displays have we had? Honestly? You can discount all of the away games we’ve played in the league, none of them were amazing performances.

I can’t think of a home game where we’ve hammered someone, given our goal difference.

like I said after the Brighton game, we’ve had some decent cup runs where we’ve played one decent team. It’s been a shambles glossed over with a few cup runs

I thought were great home against Arsenal, Pool, City, Spurs and in both ties against Barcelona.

And overall much better than last year, tonight being a microcosm of last season.

In 99 we had Cole, Yorke, Solksjaer and Sheringham to call upon up top. This season we have Martial, Weghorst and Rashford (when hes not on the left). No team with serious aspirations of Champions league football get a Burnley player on loan. Its on the owners this. Team hasn't been up to it for a while now but what is ETH supposed to do? Guy has his hands tied behind his back. He has worked miracles with this team. Won't have anyone calling ETH out. The only reason we have a trophy and even in with a shout of top 4 is ETH
Exactly. SAF always had top goalscorers even going back to Choccy McClair. Berbatov, RVN, Saha (when fit), Rooney, RVP etc.

Did West ham even play well? We were so listless and gave away a goal and showed no fight. It is just frustrating following this team right now.
In the middle of the season I was looking forward to games. Its back to dreading now.

First half West Ham offered nothing. They were there to get walked over and we wasted chance after chance. You knew it would come back to haunt us.

2nd half they came at us and we crumbled. West Ham. West Effing Ham.

Yes, unless I replied to wrong post. You said there’s improvements, I don’t anything different from last season, games going by with nothing being offered, the only difference is that Liverpool and Chelsea have shit themselves more than us

Mate, you cant just keep putting down passionate supporters who are absolutely gutted at the rubbish we have being seeing these past few weeks.
Doesn't make you a Top Red

Shitting on the players is passion these days eh?

What's this top red nonsense?

This is a football forum, for discussion, it's not an old sock for hysterical cry wanks.

I think similar thing happened during last months of Ole's reign. Every game we've had another "hero" who was gifting other team either goal of bringing down player and conceding penalty. I hope we can still qualify for Europa League 2023/24.

At the end of the day, at the beginning of the season if we were offered a domestic trophy, an FA cup final and top four, we wouldn't believe our luck and we would snatch their hands off. Fact is, we are still on course for a very strong season despite this drop off in recent weeks. We should conclude after the season is over.

We were shit against arsenal and the better team lost that game. City we had a 10 minute spell on the back of a dodgy decision, spurs we did well.

Can you think of any game that we have put a te to the sword? Not one all season and we’ve played teams like Sheriff and Nicosia

Pathetic team and mentality.

Under Fergie, no players place was safe. These showers of shit perform like ass and will still have their place in the team the next week.

If i’m ETH I wouldn’t start 6-7 of those who started today next week.

Now that sentiment is all well and good, but who would come in? We just do not have the squad to hook players off like that.

Nope, West Ham are rubbish. City, Arsenal, current Liverpool and Newcastle would probably have put at least 3 goals past them today.

Yeah, as long as we get Top 4 it’s a good season. I’m afraid it looks less likely by the minute.

Imagine if we beat Sevilla and had to play 2 games vs Juventus now. Don't think players would be able to finish the season

I've enjoyed this season despite not putting anyone to the sword and being quite awful on occasion. I see progress, and that's all I need it seems.

We so badly miss martinez, a player with more bottle than the rest put together.
Casamiro looks to have gone into 2nd gear since his red cards, Anthony is just not good enough as a winger, cant beat a man, cant cross a ball, completely one footed, he doesn't even take a corner and we leave it to our makeshift centre half to take them. Erikson is knackered after 45minutes. Martial totally unreliable. Fred crap and on and on..
some serious surgery still needed here.

While we've been a hard, joyless watch over the last few games, I hope the fact we no mid-week game until the Chelsea match gives some players a much needed rest, and EtH time to have a serious look at some of the lineup calls he's made recently. Losing top four to the scousers would be criminal.

I think we need to buy 2 strikers as a priority over everything else. Then if we can get a 3rd a cm who can play box to box like a de jong. 49 goals is a disgrace. We need to ship out as many of these high wage players as we can. Promote the kids, cant do any worse.
The game was the same as always. Play ok one half then shit the other.

Don't explain to them that it's not like a game of Championship Manager, you'll break their little hearts.

I agree entirely.
Sometimes statements need to be made. If we play these players and miss out on top 4, might as well feck them off and miss out in top 4 with the players who have yet to prove themselves.

Definitely agree about Martinez.

It’s more the absurd frequency of midweek games coupled with a World Cup smack in the middle of the season. I wish more of our fans would grow the feck up and understand this rather than calling the players lazy and cowards.

I agree. It's our limited squad that is the real issue.

Yeah for discussion, not being abusive to everyone who has a different opinion to you. Your the one acting like a wank

But we look like we are about to throw away top 4.
If we hold onto it, then fine no need to panic.

Need a big result against wolves now with a week's rest.

either due to poor mentality or lack of fitness we lack any sort of cohesion on the pitch. When we were going through our good run after the liverpool win early in the season we pressed from the front and every player knew there job. Now we have some players who press while others don't bother, then we have easy passing lanes not covered through our midfield. We pretty much allow rashford to jog to players and give them time while Martial can be as bad. Our issue isn't a lack of quality but a lack of intensity. Nobody knows the state of our players fitness so its hard to say if this is the cause, but we don't even look half the team we did from just a few months ago which is worrying.

Ten Hag needs a BIG response from these players against Wolves. If we limp through that game, or even lose it, then I fancy our chances even less against Bournemouth and by then Liverpool will have bagged fourth.

We now finally have so time off before Wolves, I am confident that ETH will have the team in proper condition for the game.

Agree with you that if we see more dross in the next game that it will be very worrying.

im fking sick of excuses.

Tired. Really? Only us. Then tell the manager you need some extra sleepsies. See how that goes. I'm pretty sure no one in Old Trafford is using this excuse. Just the fans.

Its the Glaziers fault for being too tight with money. Oh sure that makes perfect sense when we lost to Brighton and West Ham who spent nowhere near what we did.

Manager needs time. Bullsht. Yeah to get us competing for the title and getting us to be a well oiled machine like City maybe. But that's no excuse for these results and performances.

What else? Not enough leaders? Sht facilities? Referees fault?

As soon as we conceded that shambolic goal, it played straight into Moyes’ game plan giving West Ham something to hold on to for the remaining 65 mins.

As for United, our total reliance on Rashford the entire season is coming home to roost. His goals are drying up and we don’t look like scoring from any other avenue in all honesty. Sancho & Martial have jacked it in, Antony lacks composure, Garnacho has been a bigger miss than many (I) thought, and Weghorst is a championship player somehow getting starts for us. Throw in missing our two world class centre backs and the experienced goalkeeper falling to pieces without them in front of him and tonight’s shit show is the outcome.

Acting like a wank? Is that an insult? You're not allowed insult people here. You are allowed attack what they say. Which is what I did when people accused our players of being gutless. But you think that's just passion. I think it's nonsense, more fitting to Facebook or youtube comments.

And abusing the players is also not discussion.

If I dont mind saying so I excel at discussing things with people I don't agree with.

Dave cost us a goal. Rashford, Antony, Weghorst, Sancho, Bruno cost us the game. Just woeful up front yet again. That is the real problem.

I agree. It's our limited squad that is the real issue.
It’s everything together. The limited squad, unprecedented fixture congestion that we’ll most likely never see again, year one of trying to implement a high intensity system, and a plethora of injuries.

Don't explain to them that it's not like a game of Championship Manager, you'll break their little hearts.

Come off it, no one is equating anything to Championship Manager. I know we don’t have the capability to play others as much as we would like to, but these players have consistently let us down - and yet continue to show up week in and week out.
Although there has been progress under ETH which has been very refreshing and good to see, the bad habits are rearing their ugly heads and it’s getting extremely fatiguing.

I agree entirely.
Sometimes statements need to be made. If we play these players and miss out on top 4, might as well feck them off and miss out in top 4 with the players who have yet to prove themselves.

And break young players’ careers before they’ve even started? What happens to Mainoo for example if we put him in CM for the last games and we miss out?

What would the starting line-up be?

Now that sentiment is all well and good, but who would come in? We just do not have the squad to hook players off like that.

That's the biggest problem really in these games where you need to make a change, lack of quality options.

Turn to the bench, you've got Martial, Fred, Dalot, Maguire and Sancho as your most experienced options, that lot cost almost 300m and yet can't be trusted to produce. They should all be shown the door soon enough. After that you've got Sabitzer, who's not up to much and a kid who's not fit in Garnacho. Then Williams, whatever he's supposed to be.

The squad depth is a disgrace and if it's not addressed we'll be looking at the same players again and saying the same things this time next time year.

Eriksen and Casemiro will only work if they have 4 players in front of them who are very strong runners and wingers who can get past their men at least occasionally. It is not gonna work with Wout, Martial, Antony and Sancho. Casemiro's drop in form is a major issue ahead of next season. A flop if we only got 7 months out of him. Another reason to question ETH is the purchase of Antony, who is a mediocre winger.

We all know the state of the players fitness. This amount of midweek fixtures hasn’t been seen before and will never be seen again.

Rice was head and shoulders above any of our midfielders - why has he seemingly disappeared as a transfer target?

We have a limited squad. It's a reality. That means the lack of rotation is killing us.

Tonight we did look like last season's shambles, absolutely. But as you say progress has been made and I think we're at a sliding doors moment, in that top four could rally help us kick on, but falling short might be too much for a lot of this squad to absorb.

This team is so weak mentally, a team full of cowards, yes DDG made the massive error, bit should be able overturn a 1-0 defector to relegation contenders. We never look like creating anything, you look city and they have goals all over the team, Rashford and maybe Bruno me and tats it, Rashford had a dip and we have nothing. A massive clear out is required, no this won’t happen because of those VILE shysters the Glazers , hate is such a string word, but I have nothing but hatred in me for the Glazers, they have single handed ruined and taken the soul of the cub I Love.
