PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 West Ham United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 27 November 2016

Last season we were creating two or three chances per game and it was obvious that it was the manager and his bizzare tactics that were holding us back.

This season is just weird. We are creating tons of chances per game at the moment but are being massively let down by our offensive players.

My love is for Manchester United. Not for a manager and not for a player. Last year I wanted LVG gone as I blamed him 100% for the shit that was being served up week after week.

This season I don't have that same feeling towards Mourinho. You can see that he is starting to make things click, but if your strikers are scorning chance after chance, tactically what can you do about it?

Hopefully we can bring in a top class Striker, Winger and defender over the next two transfer windows.

Nail on the head. We're doing everything to win and the evidence is on the pitch for all to see.

We keep harping on about "when the team clicks..." the trouble is the team is already clicking and we are seeing chances galore, but the ball just isn't falling on the right side of the net for us.

I think this season will be a huge learning curve both for the players we have to adapt to Mourinho's mentality and for Mourinho himself. He is the perfect manager for us.

I believe it will be from the second half of this season or the next that we shall start to see the fruits of Mourinho's labours.

Just realized we play West Ham again in 3 days. :D

Hope we batter them, and knowing our luck we will put 4 or 5 past them in a game that I couldn't give a rat's arse about. It was all about the three points today :(

Even if we get knocked out I wouldn't be bothered that much. We need to make a full-on assault on the EL and trying to get as high a position in the PL as possible, and maybe defending the FA Cup.

That will probably happen. :D
Lets put a 2nd string team, rest all of our most important ones for Wednesday. Don't care the slightest if we lose.

I've been saying the same, lets go full force on the EL, it's our chance for CL football cause it seems we won't get it via PL unfortunately.

Absolutely. At the moment my priorities would be:

1. EL
2. PL
3. FA Cup
4. Having a good Jan transfer window (getting rid of deadwood, bringing a couple of decent players in)
5. EFL Cup

Rashford and Martial - 19 and 20 years old; young players are inconsistent, which they have been. They've shown moments of brilliance, but you can't expect that out of them regularly yet.

Pogba - in a new, much faster, much more competitive league

Mkhi - also in a new league

Look at the players in the other teams you've mentioned, look at the ones doing well, and look at how long they've either been on that team or been in the Premier League. It's folly to expect people to pop into new leagues and onto new teams and play exactly like they did the season before... If they are able to, great, but it shouldn't be the expectation.

It seems that you're letting feelings get the better part of sound judgment.

You don't know the problem or the solution, but you know that you should blame the coach...?

I am a coach, and that is typically how it goes when fans are upset if my team has a poor result. Coaches get blamed all the time for things completely out of their control. Again, don't let emotion get the better part of sound judgement.

See response above

Yes ofcourse in my opnion the coach is responsible for the result. He is not the only contributing factor but he is the one who needs to take responsibility for the end result.

Also it seems United is the only club where you can not expect a new player to contribute immediatley and give a coach atleast 2 years until he can be fairly judged. I like to compare things with Chelsea, they were in much worse state than us last season, this was going to be a rebuild season, the only major change they made was get Conté in as a trainer instead of Mourinho and he has things working like clockwork for them. Why can't Mourinho do the same thing ?

Some good striker, someone who will bang those goals in, should be a priority in January. Or a good winger. But a winger, not someone who can play as a winger but isn't a winger per se.

Agree. Although i don't think Mourinho is completely blameless with some of his selections.

For comparison, after 13 games last year we'd had 136 shots, 51 on target and scored 19 goals. This year 219 shots, 75 on target but scored 18. It's ridiculous really.

My biggest gripe.

I just don't understand how professional coaches cannot see Pogba and Herrera are not suited to playing in a midfield 2. I'm sure there will be a player in the squad who can play half a decent Carrick role if he cannot play every week. Pogba, and Herrera look classy players as do fullbacks when he knits the team together. The team is calm, assured, and more potent. Not rushed and disorientated when he's missing.

Mourinho desperately needs to find his replacement to bring the best out of other players.

We've scored 18 league goals in 13 games.

Arsenal got 28
Chelsea and City scored 29
Liverpool scored 32

And we conceded more goals than all these teams too. This is getting really worrying.
Anyone know how many on and off target chances we have had in this time period vs these 3 teams?

I suspect it is similar and our problems is soley about conversion, which is unsurprising given inconsistency from Ibra and Rooney and inexperience from Rashford and Martial.

If that's true, we are only one signing away from making huge progress.

Gary Neville saying what i was thinking, that it is the Europa League that is detrimental to us.

I saw a tweet but can't find it now. It was something like 91 efforts on goal and 3 goals in your last 3 games.

Just watched the extended highlights, Zlatan should've done better on more than one occasion.

Address the rest of my post and you'll probably arrive at the answer to that

totally agree. I cannot fathom why this is being persisted with when Carrick is not around. I'd like to see Blind get a run in there. I think he might just be ideally suited to it. He's comfortable on the ball, intelligent with it and is not unfamiliar with the position.

Gary Neville saying what i was thinking, that it is the Europa League that is detrimental to us.

What a nonsense,if he knew how to use a squad,he could place our team in same position as Liverpool and Chelsea. Dragging those playing in PL across a Europe, making them play for 90 minutes while we have big squad...Bet players like Depay and rest of them could also lose a game vs Fener,Feyenoord away.

I didn't watch the match can anyone tell me how many Clear Cut chances we had?

Sounds like we had yet another glut of chances that went begging or keeper had a worldy.
I was watching on a stream that cut out every 2 minutes so there may have been more, but I saw two where you thought "must score"

Zlatan had one where he was effectively through but lacked a touch of pace and allowed a CB to get back and intercept his shot

And Rashford went through one on one and had his weak shot saved

People had a go at LvG for sitting on the bench all the time...now it seems we have someone who spends more time in the stands then anywhere else.

I'm telling you now all the signs are there and eventually we are going to click and go on a very good run. Second half we had tons of openings just didn't finish, when they start going in I don't see them stopping.

Frustrated but optimistic still, team is definitely getting better it's just not quite there yet.

This. Once we stop playing three matches a week, we should be fresher. Season might be over by then though.

Yeah good point, I always get tired more on Thursday's. On Wednesday's I can run and run.

Err, it means there are less days to recover for a premier league game moron. I never said I agree with Neville, but that was his sentiment.

Was thinking about Chicarito too earlier when we were struggling to convert our chances. We need a clinical finisher/goal poacher in his or RVN mode.

What's the difference between playing Thursday-Sunday and Saturday-Tuesday? For a squad such as ours, I would be expecting them to be able to cope with it.

Dropping points at home through shite defending and/or not finishing the numerous chances we've had in the last 4 league games, however...

Teams play a day later. Wed= Sat or Thurs = sunday. Same rest and recovery.

Oh, just seen the moron comment. Learn the fecking rules of English/European football you bellend.

I really do feel we're moving in the right direction, it's frustrating but there's no need to panic. Attacks on the manager and players seems really knee-jerk, we're dominating games more than we did under LVG and his 90% possession style, we're creating chances but need to be more clinical. I think we're on the cusp of something, I really do. A couple of signings may do it, or maybe even just one. Keep the faith lads.

Edit, you need to clean up your punctuation. You need to use a coma after game....moron.

I actually saw someone blaming LVG for this? Mourinho says we are unlucky but he is very lucky that some people will always make excuses for him.
