Post-match discussion

The players clearly aren't shit, thats just a lazy excuse. Is our squad as good as the top 4 teams? no. Are they as poor as the squads around us? no. Its such an easy excuse. Your job as a manager is to get the best out of the players. To make them better. He has literally made every player worse.

It’s a lazy excuse to blame just the manager and say the players played well today, huge erosion of standards of is players doing well. This is our worst group of players in the Premier League era that won’t change irrespective of what the tactics are.

We didn’t have a better 11 on the pitch than a really poor Spurs team today. Most of the players are performing how they have done for extended periods of time or how they were playing earlier in the season. Some exceptions but that’s it.

I really cannot understand why he didn't throw on some yhe kids for 15-20 minutes. We had nothing to lose. I really want to believe in Amorim but today I thought he was pusillanimous. We needed boldness. Kone would have given us more energy. Obi couldn't have done worse than Hojlund ( there us a player in there but his confidence is shot). Zirkzee was pretty decent today but so slow. Garnacho had a shocker. I thought Maguire was OK apart from one nightmare but he was pinging out some decent crossfield passes

Is anyone still bothered by this?

Like... I'll be able to muster some interest for FA Cup and Europa League ties. But this clowning around in the Premier League fails to quicken my pulse even a little.

There is no better game to bring our youngsters in than this one. With so many injuries, no one will fault Amorim for trying out with the kids. This is on him.
Couldn’t agree more. This season is a right off (other than Europa) we all know it and would actually embrace the kids getting a shot. You never know we could find a gem right in time for next season.

Im struggling in the league. I saw the starting lineup and wasn't confident, but was quite impressed with the bench.
Decided not to watch Only to look at the game stats at FT and see that only 1 of the kids on the bench came on, and only for 40seconds. Disappointed in that, Im not fussed with the score though. The league is done

Standards? You talk of an erosion of standards, where is that for the manager? He is performing worse than the previous manager was this season. Did we have a worse squad than Southampton who dominated us? Forest who dominated us? Bournemouth who dominated? If you talk standards, keep the same enegry for the manager. As I said, blaming the players for everything is a lazy excuse.

Obviously things are terrible, difficult to watch, no hope. I do like how now because of our manager and the way we play we are showing the reality of our squad, players cannot hide and cannot rely on stat padding as much.

This isn't just a recent reality, this has been true for a while, and only now are we acting like adults and facing it.

I look forward to how we progress.

We are so crap going forward, no wonder every team thinks they have a chance against us. It's almost like the lack of goal is compounding our situation. It invites teams on because they know they might as well have a pop, god forbid they score 2-0, they know the are out of sight.

I have said tactics were a problem today as well, I just haven’t lowered the bar to the extent that I think the players did well today. How does anyone look at that game today and think the players did well.

Our players were not of a higher quality than Spurs today and we are much closer in ability to likes of Bournemouth, Forest etc than we are to the better teams.

I can accept losing if we go down swinging. If the manager used every tool available and every trick up his sleeve. Sometimes you get beaten even when playing well.

Today we did not play well. And the manager just watched it unfold like a 90 minute train wreck. We took no risks and lost anyway, timidly, like a bunch of scared rabbits.

We didn’t even get the joy of our “fetch that, cnut” (@T00lsh3d ) hopeful punts into channels. Slow, inaccurate, poor decisions, terrible finishing, rookie mistakes, manager refusing to influence the game.

Wow. Proper shit.
Oh there was a moment. About 5-10 minutes from the end, Dorgu, nice easy cross…..spoons it into next week….I thought, he’s been watching Dalot in training!

I'm gutted about Amad. He was one of the few attacking players I like to watch on this team. Bruno and Mainoo can have their moments, but everyone else is pretty meh. I might just watch the first half of all our matches and decide if the 2nd is worth it.

The only good things about this match are Dorgu looks good and Zirkzee has some skill.

Everyone's (including Amorim) acting like the season is a write off but if he doesn't get the team to play with more tactical nous, why exactly a) should he come back and b) get to remake the team in his image and saddle the next poor schlub with a squad suited for a system that isn't working? Amorim should be coaching for his job

You could tell me this was one of the lads post match interviews and i’d believe it

Dorgu was in space on the left quite a few times and yet no one passed to him. Bruno was the worst culprit.

And yes Zirkzee showed some good skills and put himself about more. And maybe there is a player there.
But goodness me, he lacks pace and strength.

People acting like they were expecting something out of this result. Calm down, seasons done, we won't be relegated but id expect to finish 17th or 16th. The manager and the players can all do one, in there own ways have destroyed the season and put us back years. 24 25 will be known as the year United slipped away from the top half.

And no, I'm not being negative, I've lost faith with Amorim and the players. Neither have shown anything.

Forest and Bouremoith are arguably better than spurs (this season) but I get what you mean.

There have been many poor performances this season but I don't think that was necessarily one of them, under the circumstances.

12 fit senior players, only one fit CM, and that one fit CM is a player we've been desperate to shift for 18-months...away from home in the PL...and I thought we did OK.

I think some people would do well just to turn off the TV until the start of next season....or even the start of the season after that.

We all called for a root and branch overhaul, but it was obvious after a few games that most people underestimated what that means, and don't have the stomach for it

I am so disengaged. Just cannot get emotionally attached to this team at all. This season cannot be over soon enough.

Can't score goals .. unless Amorin gives Obi a proper chance we will never find out if he can score at higher level, I thought Kone could have come on CM as well last 5 mins or so and put Bruno further forward and gone for it. Losing by 1 was no difference by 2 or 3 ..

The forwards are as poor as those around us. Absolutely.

I didn't think that was a bad performance, certainly better than some of our home games.
Need to be clinical, goals change matches. I thought we looked a bit more coherent in attack because Zirkzee and Höjlund played as a 2 basically and were sharper and less isolated. Also helped having natural width and Casemiro being a better passer than Ugarte.
On the other hand, we lacked control for long parts. It's also far too easy to play out against us. We basically have a back 5 sat deep in our own half and two CMs outnumbered in midfield so it's very easy for the opponents FBd to be out balls.

Yea i would concur.

I’m starting to think we’re not going to finish in the top four. ☹️

Each loss makes it that much harder to attract players in the transfer window.

Desensitised to this now.
Was already 1-0 down when I got the game up.
We had a few nice chances, but the talent up front is not only running on fumes, but is levels below what we need.

We're lucky the bottom 4 are so much crapper than even we are, as we haven't done sinking just yet.

Too many players jogging, particularly first half, Bruno, Rasmus, Casemiro, Dalot, Garna, all guilty when we don't have the ball, Bruno looks knackered, can't weight a simple pass to save his life, little things like this are killing our momentum in the final third, Dalot has an obvious crossing alergy, where can you play the guy in this system?! Not sure what Bruno was meant to be doing first half, has he been told to leave Casemiro alone in the middle, or did he just go rogue? The Garnacho miss is unforgivable really, make the goalkeeper work ffs. Seen enough of Onana now, many times has he pushed a low cross into the six yard box? Not good enough. When we pass the ball quickly we look half decent but we just can't sustain any kind of coherent play for more than a couple of minutes. Amorim looks out of ideas, the owners clearly have no appetite for revolution, most of these players will still be here next August, it's conceivable that we won't win another Premier league game this season. We're going nowhere with this ownership model, it's just not possible, we need to accept that. I've followed Utd for almost 50 years, at times i've been frustrated, despondent, angry even, but i've never been afraid, untill now.

Yeah I didn’t phrase it well as they are indeed better this season. We shouldn’t be 15th but we are basically part of the pack now and in terms of the quality of our players.

If you made a combined 11 between us and a mid table team like Palace, they have at least 4 players in it, maybe more. That would have been unthinkable even post SAF but it’s our reality now.

really awful last 15 mins when a goal was there for the taking. Made some chances earlier, but couldnt get the ball up the pitch when it mattered most.

We should have at least got a draw with the chances we had. Garnacho had three good ones alone. If we could repeat this performance for the rest of the season we will be safe from relegation. Then bring on a summer clear out.

Yes. Me and 3000 others are currently travelling back from Tottenham on a Sunday night and expect to see a competent football team.

Playing 343 when you only have this group of players available is absolutely insane.
