EL L Europa League Round of 32 1st Leg

Midtjylland 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Blame all injuries you want, but apart from our fullbacks, that is as close to our first team we would get. Not that Romero was bad, but he was supposed to be our No.1, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Mata, Martial and Memphis. These are our first options, then you take Herrera and Lingard. This is pathetic beyond belief.

Lucky it wasn't more, we should be able to turn it round and we should beat Shrewsbury but it won't be a surprise if we fail in one or even both.

Fear for us against Arsenal, could be more embarrassing than game at the Emirates.
Donald Love against Alexis Sanchez, what's the worst that could happen?

Read that Romero saved us from real slaughter. Is that true?

What a time to be a Manchester United fan :D

United never ceases to surprise me in the post Ferguson era, not in a good way that is. Today there were lots concerns before the game, right until the first whistle: how well would the youngsters play, how would we cope without Martial on the left taking on defenders, how would our defense look without De Gea's heroics. The last thing i would worry about was the midfield... And yet, if there actually is a 0/10 rating for a football performance, all our midfield players (Carrick-Herrera-Mata) performed very close to that.

As for the game itself, we didn't witness anything that we hadn't seen before. This United side has one way of creating chances and that by getting the ball to Martial. His flick on towards Lingard turns a usual ball into a chance for a good cross but, right now, we should really find a way to play him on the left again so that he can get on the ball more often. Memphis had some good spells during the game and Lingard had his usual 50/50 performance but none of the two can be the focal point in our attack. Martial could eventually end up as our future forward but right now we need to get him on the ball in the final third as much as possible and therefore he needs to be utilized where the spaces are.

After Martial got tired, around the 60-65th minute, the whole team collapsed again. This is a recurring theme in our games but the state of our squad doesn't give us many choices. Still, it remains a wonder why we don't try to play deeper and use the counter.

We could go on and talk about the players too. I was watching the Real Madrid game on Tuesday, it was evident that they didn't have any designed plays to open up Roma's ultra defensive tactics. The big difference was that they had enough quality in their side to see the game through, deal with any threats and find a goal. This, unfortunately, can't be said about us.

The real problem, or at least that's how i saw it, is that the players look like they don't have faith in the plan anymore. Until now we had the press pointing out the bad results and all the other issues, we had fans complaining about the quality of the football and the lack of clear cut chances but the players always seemed to be trying to understand the manager's instructions and give flesh and blood to his philosophy on the pitch. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I'd give a penny for Woodward's thoughts tonight, the writing's on the wall. Had we played Arsenal or a side like Dortmund today, the score would have been really embarrassing.

Ah shit, just came home from work, thought I was going to catch the game, missed it obviously.
What happened?

Grim. The rot has begun to set in, I fear it's going to get worse.
If LvG stays it will. He has given up. Thanks to that the players have as well. Make sure Jose is coming and even use Warren Joyce to get the playing differently until the summer. They look bereft of confidence and unfortunately their are no leaders in the team to drive them on. Giggs has to be on his bike as well.

To think the fans paid £71 quid to go there and watch that tumescent crap, along with the travel costs. I really feel sorry for them. It feels bad enough sitting at home.

Didn't we have an identical interview with Carrick less than 2 months ago?

To put it into perspective Carrick made his debut in the league when Midtjylland were founded as a club. Probably this loss is the lowest point this season and we still have Shrewsbury next.

The players have given up.
I think that is precisely it. Either they want him out, the things we criticised Chelsea players for, or they know he is going and are just playing out the season. Problem with that is that fans are still paying good money to watch you, so do the right thing and give them something back.

Worse than any one game I can recall under Moyes..even the game of a thousand crosses where we at least tried and played hard until the end (just didn't have the right strategy lol). This was poor - half the players have given up it seems, and the other half ae too young and inexperienced.

This has got to be a dream/nightmare for me. I am hoping that I wake the feck up and be actually watching the real United.

Both of which should result in those players turning out (I won't label the shit they're doing now 'playing', as it is an insult to the toddlers who will spend tomorrow morning finger painting and sticking crayons up their nostrils at nursery) for the reserve or U21 sides until they can be fecked off to China.

Pretty embarrassing, although we do have probably our silliest injury crisis for years, and boy have we had some.
De Gea injuring himself just before kick off, a day after Rooney being out, really shows the sh!t luck Van Gaal has had on top of his own appalling work.
It's not sh!t luck though - he created this situation by selling half our players and not replacing them all - thus our players don't get rotated properly (only dropped). Add to that the reported full 11 vs 11 training matches he had twice a week until Christmas and maybe that's why we have so many unprecedented training injuries. WE have far too many youth players in the team currently adn not enough fit experienced players and only about 2 of those players were injured during games (Shaw and Young iirc).

What's with all the Law of Murphy rubbish. Yes DDG was injured before the game but his absence did not contribute to our loss. Romero was our best player tonight.

Of course they should perform, people are paying good money to watch them. Not sure footballers think that way. They can be very self-centred.

Just a thought came into my mind... You see the shite our players put out every week like today and then you read United fans on here who don't want us to sign Ronaldo or Ibrahimovic because they're too old and don't have too many years left.... I just don't know what to say

Ive been saying this for a while now.
Apparently the serial winners like Ronaldo and Ibra are not good enough for us.
Even Di Maria was not MUFC standard.
Jose (for all his wins/trophies)...not good enough.
There are also some fans who believe we can win the Europa League. <<this is my recent favourite.
And lets not forget the fans who cannot understand why a player would want to go from MUFC to Madrid.

I can only assume that these fans don't actually watch us play and perhaps are not even aware of the score-lines of matches we are playing.

And you could ask everyone on this forum and just about any United fan on the street what a small squad would result in. I am all for playing the youth but what the feck were we fielding out there tonight? Love especially doesn't have any place in the 1st squad.

I am especially pissed about Januzaj not being able to play tonight, all because this idiot decided to loan him out, where he sat on the bench the entire time.
