Didn't expect anything different to be fair. Typical Jose team's away performance.

Would have loved a bit more ambition in the 2nd half like we did in the first 25-30 minutes of the game.

Young did a good job from defending perspective but not a single cross or attacking move from him in the whole game is really disappointing.

Badly missed Martial.

Apart from his only contribution that lovely cross, Pogba was terrible. Lost counting how many times he got dispossessed. Ibra has been shockingly poor in alomst all the games he's played if you take out his goals. Rashford isn't as effective on the wing, not when he's playing for full 90 minutes.

Great performance from Herrera. Fellaini was very good as well as were Valenicia and De Gea when called upon.

Not a great result but not a bad either in the grand scheme of things.

All & all it was decent result against a team who's been on fire in a hostile environment, but I can't help feeling a top 4 place is becoming a tall order. Really need all 3 points against Chelsea.

Tough game. Decent result. Pogba and Ibra need to take a look at themselves. If they did their bit in Jose's tactical master plan, we would have come off with a win. The play broke down when the ball reached either of them too many times today. Pogba had 1 immense moment, but Ibra let him down. Need to put those chances away if we are to win these tight games. Easily the best chance of the game.

De Gea once again proves why he is our no.1. Kind of made up for his mistake against Stoke. Still 5 points away from the top with Chelsea to play next week.

Had our attacking players been on the ball we probably could've got a result.

First half was to plan, nullify the crowd, don't let them settle, control the tempo.
Second half they are naturally going to push on but that's when you look for the counter to win it, unfortunately for us we are almost completely devoid of pace up top and therefore carried no threat at all. We missed martial big time, lingard too could've helped stretch it late on. It's a shame rashford cramped up as I'd have liked to have seen him given 15mins through the middle

We barely created a chance all game, and clearly were playing for a point
Had 35% possession
Would have lost if not for DDG (again) bailing us out twice

And people think that's good enough for Manchester United?

This was one of the reasons why I was skeptical of Mourinho. He's such a coward. I'll cut him some slack though since we were missing two presumed first teamers in Martial and Mkhitaryan, but still, we could have at least given it a shot.
They created only one real chance (Emre Can).

Sorry I don't at all

This was not a typical Ferguson game by any stretch

For the sheer fact we purposely played this way it was never, ever the norm. Maybe at times the opposition were so good we had no choice but to play for a draw. But tonight they offered very little an we took it like a bitch.

It's the 2nd goalless draw in 40 odd games against Liverpool.

You have a short memory

So where did those chants I referenced come from? Just for the craic?

You've been looking for something to moan about since Mourinho took over. No great surprise you're on your soapbox tonight. Still a good result. We've been far worse at Anfield many times before. You've probably forgotten the games though.

Just want to add, the fact that they played Sturridge and were without Lallana/ Wijnaldum worked in our favour massively.

You could see that by the way the game changed completely once Lallana came on. Up until then, we were looking the more positive team and the more likely to score.

We were also missing our most creative attacking players either due to injuries(Martial and Mhki) or due to tactical decision(Mata).

Our 2 front men also had an off day. This was a decent result. With everyone available and firing we're much more threatening and creative going forward.

This was a hard away game.

A point at Anfield is never bad but that was a snoozefest. I thought Mourinho got the tactics right in the first half. In the second half you defended well but it was a bit shocking how toothless you were on the counter. Ibra/Pogba at 9/10 is not a good counter-attacking combination as the former doesn't have the pace to play that way and the latter doesn't have the natural instincts to drift into space, break at speed, and play the killer ball that the best true 10s have.

By expected goals, you actually had slightly the better of it, pretty much entirely due to the Ibra chance.

I think if we'd beaten Stoke, as we should have, that point tonight would appear much better.

Personally I think that was definitely a point earned and I'll happily take that. One of Mourinho's greatest strengths is his pragmatism and tonight I think it served us well.
That's absolutely right. We should have double parked the bus after Martial's goal. I'd rather we let Mourinho do his thing and eek out the points as much as possible whilst he sorts our attack out.
Honestly, we can't keep expecting the managers to be everything all at once i.e. be solid defensively, play great entertaining football, etc etc. We need to let Jose take a breath and do his thing - even if not very exciting.
The first thing the club needs is to have some solidity and build the confidence - then we can entertain. I'm pretty sure it will come, but 3 seasons we've been mentally fragile, and it's best to do everything to counteract that. If it means boring and defensive or smash and grab, I take it all day because not losing means you gain confidence which is everything in sport.

I agree you defended well but the football wasn't the Utd way. That's all I mean. Wasn't a smart arse post or it wasn't meant to be.
Come on, the United way? You dont go away to a team who has been on fire attacking wise and play an open game, thats just stupid. Mourinho did what he always does, and thats get results in big games. Draws in big away games and then you win the home ones.

Fairly pleased.
The players were unable to stick to the game plan against City, which is why today was a big test.
As a team, we have taken on Jose's style and instructions well. With a bit of luck and a bit more form for a few select players and we could have shaded it.
Onwards and upwards!

Why would it sting? We've lost four on the trot against u

It was a great time to play us, we are a complete mess in midfield at the minute and you've started the season well. If it was the other way round I'd be fuming.

Happy with the point considering our lack of attacking options. I said pre match i didn't expect us to create anything without Martial.

Defended well but hate the fact United set out for a 0-0. We may have played this way against the likes of Barcelona away in the past but Liverpool aren't in that category.

Also not sure it's sustainable. If there were only two or three good teams in the league it'd be ok to give up the win away from home, but there are five or six. Are we going to play this way against all of them? If so we're giving away an awful lot of points.

We should have won. Zlatan should've scored.

De Gea didn't bail us out - it's his fecking job, there's a reason why we made him the highest paid keeper in the world. Because he makes those kind of saves regularly.

Herrera, future United captain?
Why not? But first let's see him put in these types of performances on a consistent basis. He's got everything else though imho

OK, fair enough. Sorry I asked the question now because I've had 20 reply's. Didn't think it was an outrageous comment but hey Ho.:)

Thought we'd lose wich we didn't so there's always that.
Also, why is Petter Myhre always in the norwegian studio? Can't stand him.

Never said we're special. We've had some for but that it.
You were flying and were favorites. We just shut the shop. Too bad we didn't score but we stopped you and I'm all right with that. Some other liverpool fan poster said we don't deserve top 4. Now, that was funny.

I'm not looking to moan at all

I'm desperate for us to have a great season

Liverpool as the home team were utter shit.

Onus on you to attack and you were terrified to come onto the away team who are well within their rights to want to keep it tight and quiet the crowd. Fergie was master at it.

We'll show far more intent against you at Old Trafford than you did tonight.
Both teams looked terrified at times and considering how fragile we are at the back you should be disappointed that you haven't managed more in front of goal. I'm more disappointed because of how poor we were in the first half. Sturridge, Can and Firmino couldn't get the ball to stick and it took Lallana coming on to really get us going. Herrera and Fellaini did well to disrupt things but we missed the forward thinking we normally have with Wijnaldum and Lallana in ahead of Henderson.

Aren't you slightly disappointed that you didn't show a bit more ambition against a poor defence? You're the first team we've managed a clean sheet against in the league this season and Karius was a bag of nerves.

Still it's a better point for you than it is for us, assuming you get a result at Chelsea.

No , it was clever but I was just making the point it was a little boring. Maybe I should have posted in a different manner.

Hard earned point and deserved in the end because the plan to minimize Liverpool's game worked. We're talking about the side with the most shots on target from inside the box and today they were contained and reduced to just two clear cut chances with one of them coming from a shot inside the box.

On the other hand, thank God they didn't score because i don't think we had a plan to create chances tonight. I can't really tell how we planned to score a goal. We didn't pose any kind of threat and we won very few corners and fouls in dangerous areas which is one of Liverpool's weaknesses.

Happy with the attitude and the concentration levels, good job by Mourinho on that. With all these talks about them being so good and aiming not only to win but also win by three goals or more so that they could go top of the table, the three kicks in the opening minute and half send the message "come and score them". Midway through the first half, when they were whining to Taylor, you knew that half the job as done. Shame we couldn't capitalize on that.

As for the the setup, it was actually Fellaini instead of an attacking midfielder. I understand the logic behind it but i believe it was a tactical alteration from Mourinho that will only be used in big games. It just goes on to show the lack of balance in the midfield, no matter the combinations being tried. Pogba-Herrera + AM is unbalanced because it leaves gaps in our third of the pitch while today's Herrera-Fellaini +Pogba is also unbalanced because it leaves very little options in the attacking third in terms of retaining possession high on the pitch and getting deep runs and overloads from the midfield players.

I guess with Jose vs Konte next Sunday both teams will sit on their half of the pitch like in the old table soccer games, should be fun...

Mourinho confirming in the post match interview that he wanted Rashford's pace in the middle but his cramps stopped him from doing that.

He said we lacked penetration through the middle with Pogba and Ibra, something which almost everyone on here will agree with.

Once you accept that we were going to play like underdogs, you'd have to be very impressed by how easily we dismantled Liverpool's press. For most of the game, they offered feck all of a threat. Where we need to get better is that - so did we. I suppose it's expected with that front 4, in a way. Fine, it's Liverpool and Jose is a defensive manager. But it's about bloody time we see Martial and Mkhitarian play a big role. I mean, Ashely Young isn't the best we can do.

Good point. Let's be realistic that Liverpool is on good form. No manager wants to go for a draw, I wish there there more option on the bench. Zlatan should be sub with a pacy striker like Martial.

For those saying it was boring,i obviously have no perspective watching as a United fan because I thought it was tight and tense. Good point.

We might find Mata coming straight back into the side.
