Post-match discussion

The way everyone was hyping Liverpool, including our own fans, I'm pretty content with a point.

If we were both at the same level before coming into this game, I'd have been far more annoyed with that game. Not that I'm not annoyed with it now, it was dreadful and a win would have really helped after our blunder v Stoke, but at least we weren't smashed 5-0 like everyone thought we'd be.

Helped that they were fecking shit, under a soon to be sacked manager. Obviously.
Well we beat Klopps Liverpool in anfield last season

And it was by far a more positive performance than tonight

I'm not overly complaining though

I'm relatively pleased with the point. But it's such a forgettable game....I'm finding it hard to remeber a Utd performance quite like this before

I feel ashamed for this shite. Actualy wished for lvg today. Not a single change. Young for 90 minutes is unbelievable, you can see that the other players dont want to give em the ball. Was Mou hoping for a dive or something? Mind as wel sell pogba and Ibra if you are gonna play like this without pace and so far from the opponents goal. Ibra and Pogba are absolutly useless like this
with LVG we would have played like Liverpool in the first half, sitting back and being cautious and giving the ball away. I thought it was an excellent tactical performance, very disciplined and we unnerved them in the first half. There were a few chances where we could have won it but unfortunately Ibra and Pogba both had an off day.

People do realise that we've been in shit form and Liverpool have been scoring for fun, right?

We're still gelling as a team, while Klopp has settled on a tactic that, in the main, is working.

Yes, it would have been fantastic if we'd been more attacking but the way that Liverpool counter would maybe have seen us be picked off.

If we're in the title race at the business end of the season its points gained like this that will help.

Considering the form of both teams, I'll take the one point.

Almost went perfectly, had Zlatan scored it'd be like the smash and grab we got last season.

We were told we would get smashed from the first whistle. Gary Neville saying he was afraid, Scholes tipping Liverpool. Didn't happen did it?

First half we totally dominated, second half we did what we needed to on the few times they attacked.

A good night's work. 30 games to go. Five points off, long season, lots of time to get ourselves into pole position.

Very disappointed with Zlatan tonight. Thought he was a much better holdup-player than what he has showed for us so far this season. Would like to see Martial getting a chance up front in one of the next games. Have to admit I miss those days when we had proper quality on the wings. A top winger should be a priority in the January-window.

Not sure if serious. Away draws at rivals were the benchmark for title-winning seasons under Fergie. People have such short memories.
We never played quite like tonight under Fergie

Yes sometimes we were more conservative. But this was a Jose special

Would've been a decent point if we had got the 3 points against Stoke.

Ibra for me is not good enough to play for us, his hold up play and finishing is not clinical enough, we may need to get a striker in January.

Why would they smash us exactly?? To hell with what everyone thinks, they are an average side, with average players and we failed to stamp our authority. We're Man United FFS, this Liverpool team is nothing to aim to nullify, we should be dominating them.
Hurray, we're Man Utd, fecking hurrah. How's that served us for the last three years?

When have we EVER dominated Liverpool at Anfield? The only recent time I can think of is LvGs first season which was arguably our best ever performance under him. Under Fergie when we did win, we scraped by.

The only embarrassing thing here is your self entitled attitude.

You utd fans happy with that after all the money spent?

Mourinho>Pulis isn't it?
Now i am. Love how mourinho frustrates the opposition. Look you have to come here and ask this question, where as you should ask why you couldnt win when every one and their dog had you to win.

Game plan was spot on
If Ibra and Pogba played better better we could've maybe gotten more than a point but I would've taken a draw before kick off easily.

Liverpool as the home team were utter shit.

Onus on you to attack and you were terrified to come onto the away team who are well within their rights to want to keep it tight and quiet the crowd. Fergie was master at it.

We'll show far more intent against you at Old Trafford than you did tonight.

We are due some good football soon, surely? Getting bored of how reactive and unexciting United have become over the last couple of seasons. It's not a loss I guess.

Typical Mourinho performance. If he had a philosophy book, I'm pretty sure the first line would read: "first, you shall not lose."

Defensively solid, and completely nullified the gegenpressing.

We could have won it, too. Massively disappointed with Ibra. Pogba, other than that cross was invisible too.

Happy with the point though. Anfield is a difficult place to come, dominate and win. Especially against a team in such form.

This team is going the right way.

Didn't get a chance to watch the match. Was expecting a hiding. Glad United had a plan and executed it well. Maybe if we had Mkhi and Martial firing on the wings along with Shaw at LB we would have a different game.

If we can beat Chelsea then we can be on the right track. Will be another difficult game.

Difference is Fergie actually used to go for it at the end and nick a win...if there is such a thing as the Manchester United way then that is exactly where Jose differs from it.

 Come on.. we have had some shockingly poor performances under Fergie at Anfield. We hardly went for it in the 2 wins I cited. They goals came from goal keeping mistakes off set pieces IIRC. Even today, if Zlatan scored from Pogba's cross, we could have stolen it.

We missed Martial and Micki (our 2 best players in the transition), coupled with our lack of confidence and cohesion playing for the point was spot on.
We'll beat them at Old Trafford, obviously.
They really are a poor side, all the hype, but nothing there, which is 'Pool in a nutshell for 25 yrs

Happy with a point at anfield where you guys created nothing apart from a coutinho shot from 30 yards out or a random effort from can squeezing it through 4 players? On the balance of chances (xg and all that shit), united had better chances despite being the away team. So yeah, of course im happy enough because we came with a game plan and executed it. Suck the life out of the game and try to hit on the break. We did that, even though our 2 best counter attacking players were injured. Liverpool on the other hand kept possession and created less then a LvG team would.

We didn't have the players to counterattack. No Mikhitaryan, no Martial etc.

Fergie used to do that all the time except in place of Fellaini he had Scholes, and on the wings he'd have Giggs/Nani/Ronaldo/Rooney. We just don't have these sort of players at the moment.

A good result. Hope we can make it back to the CL as Mourinho will ruffle some feathers playing that way against the football hipsters that think you must always press at a million miles an hour.

Agreed, I was very encouraged by the performance and I'd imagine Mourinho would've been quite happy with it as well.

Our games against Liverpool under lvg were by far his finest moments. He got it spot on in all the league fixtures
My comment was more a reference to the general style of play and not our results against Liverpool under LVG. I found his football boring/frustrating and I found tonight the same.

Point gained and Herrera brilliant were our positives.

Pretty dire game to watch, classic Mourinho in stifling the opposition but no real attacking threat at all from us. Not a bad point by any means but would've been better had we beaten Stoke before the international break though.

Take a point and move on, all the moaners going on about how bad it was to watch would be the same ones moaning if we'd been more attacking and lost.

You utd fans happy with that after all the money spent?

Must sting tonight, can't remember a time where Liverpool were such favorites. I think a lot of pool fans had got the victory T-shirts printed already like the 2013/14 PL Winners ones.
