PL D FA Premier League

Liverpool 0:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Have people forgotten some of our performances at anfield under Fergie? Even when we stole 1-0 wins with O shea and Tevez winners, Liverpool battered us or at least dominated us much more than they did today. Complaining about Jose's tactics seems odd.

Difference is Fergie actually used to go for it at the end and nick a win...if there is such a thing as the Manchester United way then that is exactly where Jose differs from it.

How can anybody be happy with that you play and watch football in the hope your team wins, not that the get a bloody draw. terrible attitude disgusted that we where happy with a draw. Liverpool are bloody rubbish may I add.

Understand others sentiments about a point gained.

BUT

At risk of sounding like a whinging cnut, I dont think that was in the spirit of the game. One of the truly great PL fixtures, been looking forward to it all day and feel thoroughly short changed by the lack of entertainment. Felt like LVG was in the dugout again.

Herrera one major positive, he was excellent.

Whinging cnut.

It's not a great point though. We couldn't even test their 'keeper. That might be great for Hull or Sunderland, but it's not good enough for United.

It is a great point, we could have quite easily came and attacked and walked away with a drubbing. Pick your battles, we needed something out of the game and we got it.

I'd take the same against Chelsea and all.

Only looks a poor result once you remember that we could have won. Many would have taken that beforehand, when throwing out predictions of "We're gonna get hammered".

Good point, away at a team in form and ahead of us in the table. Onto the next one.

A draw away at Liverpool is always a good result. But with Chelsea and City as our next two PL games we need to be careful about falling too far behind.

people are forgetting how tough a match away to Anfield is. Ibra just can't find the net. And we had a good start. We needed Martial/Mkhi/Mata to change the dynamic.

Boring and disappointed to be honest. Mainly frustrated with the front 4. Thought they were all poor.

Thought it was an excellent performance. Jose is still putting this team together, and that was a very disciplined and tactically mature result. We'll get better and better.

It was a fantastic performance from a defensive point of view but our attack leaves much to be desired.

Still as you said Jose is still putting his team together. Long long season ahead and we might end up being grateful for this boring point rather than a attractive loss.

I want to believe that we'll see the team being more positive as the season goes on and Mourinho has had more time to build and shape his team. At the moment it's hardly surprising that he's cautious - he's known for that, but I do think some of that caution may slip away after more time

Herrera was fantastic. Pogba needs to pull his finger out. Ibra as well. I just feel like we need to get the dynamic right with who plays in midfield and up top with those two. We'll work it out eventually.

Shout out to Valencia and Big Fellers. Blind and Young ok.
Missed Martial I felt, hopefully he's not out for long.

Dave is as always the Great One.

Felt like we could have used Lingard today tbh.

Not worried if we play defensive and such - doesn't bother me as long as we pick up points. Playing expansive and getting your arsed whooped is no fun. Let's worry about being super solid first.

But Mou really needs to get Pogba sorted out. You can see the quality there with the few times he does something, but we need him on the ball and consistently showing his quality. Got to have a bit more hunger.

Finally, all the pundits etc expecting us to get smashed can get to feck!

More than happy with the result. Couldn't care less about the general and individual performances. Special mention to DDG, Valencia, Herrera and Bailly.

I feel ashamed for this shite. Actualy wished for lvg today. Not a single change. Young for 90 minutes is unbelievable, you can see that the other players dont want to give em the ball. Was Mou hoping for a dive or something? Mind as wel sell pogba and Ibra if you are gonna play like this without pace and so far from the opponents goal. Ibra and Pogba are absolutly useless like this
Are people forgetting last season, we should have lost that and nicked it. This is a different more fluent Liverpool side and we stopped them in their tracks.

Maybe that's because we're Manchester bloody United? When was the last time you heard Barcelona or Bayern happy that they "nullified" an opponent? Even City for goodness sake are not happy doing that any more. We are the richest club in the league, the biggest and most successful and you don't find it strange that it is seen as a positive that we could "nullify" and "get a job done" on a team that miles behind us financially?
Here it comes, the old ''we're manchester united, being pragmatic shoul be beneath us''...

Not sure if serious. Away draws at rivals were the benchmark for title-winning seasons under Fergie. People have such short memories.

Ok result. But this lineup doesn't win you any games. We missed the composure of Mata and the skills of Martial. Pogba was disappointing (again), so was Ibra.

Herrera was motm for me. Fellaini and Valencia did good.

And... the Rooney sub made no sense.

Not too bothered about the result. Hope for a bit more positive approach to the next game.

Happy with a point.

Ridiculous how our right side was exposed for the last 15 minutes, almost like a highway through our defense.

Why would they smash us exactly?? To hell with what everyone thinks, they are an average side, with average players and we failed to stamp our authority. We're Man United FFS, this Liverpool team is nothing to aim to nullify, we should be dominating them.

Exactly, I hate when people think we've acheived something when we 'nullify' City or Liverpool. Its like Moyes talking. We havent spent around £500m since Fergie retired and hired two of the most decorated managers in football to 'get stuck in'; we've done them to become a force and impose ourselves on teams a la Barca and Real.

The doom and gloom on here, jesus. Remember when years we were winning back to back titles? Even then we were happy with a draw away to Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool.. but now that we're shite everyone thinks a draw is a bad result? That baffles me.

Was an alright game, great defensive display but we're too wasteful up front. Our wide men were shite but that will change when we get Miki and Martial back. I think people forget how good those players are.

Good performances from a lot of players but some disgraceful performances from others, furious with Zlatan.

This place is unreal. We nullify a side everyone on here is convinced will smash us and it's still 'embarrassing'.

I think a lot of posters don't realise the tactics being employed.
They just look at the scoreline and think, "What???? We didn't score 3 goals? That's rubbish".

Jose wanted to frustrate LFC and played for a draw. If the opportunity presents itself, then we score a goal, but otherwise, 0-0 is perfectly acceptable.

A lot of fans think we should be scoring 3 goals per game, even against the best teams in the league. And right now, LFC are one of the best in the league.

A very good defensive performance. They had 2.5 chances after being the most(?) prolific team so far.

Our attacking play was almost none. Ibra and Pogba were both very good in pressing, but didnt achieve much with the ball (1 chance to be precise). Not easy though when we play with 6 defenders most of the game, they frequently found themselves outnumbered.

Smalling is the only other with a few shaky points, Herrera was excellent. Fellaini, Blind, Bailly, Valencia all very good. De Gea crucial again.

Confidently soaking up pressure is a valuable skill. Much better than against City.

Edit: Forgot Young, very diligent. Definitely acceptable that he started

City is in Carling cup and tbh I don't care about that competition.

Didn't punish them enough. Not a single dangerous cross. Only one corner against a dodgy keeper and defence. Ibra fluffing a fairly standard header.

On the plus side Herrera controlled the game brilliantly. Defence were solid. DDG made two decent saves but you'd expect him to make them.

Game was crying out for Martial to stretch them more. Shame he wasn't available. Let's beat Chelsea.

It's that sort of self entitled attitude that has us in the post Fergie rut in the first place.

Us "being Manchester fecking United" doesn't exactly transcend into the real world. Anfield has always been a nightmare to play at, we lost here a lot under Fergie and most of our later draws/wins with him were played in a very similar fashion to tonight. Right now Liverpool are also in much better form than us.

get off your high horse.
