FA W FA Cup 4th Round

Manchester United 2:1 Leicester City

Post-match discussion

Pretty poor all round. Coach got the set up wrong but at least had the courage to change it.

better second half, Onana didn't have to make a save, Garnacho sub changed the game. Good from Zirkzee, pleased for him. But that 1st half MUST be a wake up call for Amorim

It's getting a bit tiring scraping results against teams we should be looking to destroy to boost morale.

Maguire was offside as well - how did the linesman miss that off a corner when he knows there is no VAR
He also gave an obvious Leicester throw to United. The ref had to overrule him.

Basic 2nd half stats

Goals - Man Utd 2 Leicester 0
Shots on goal - Man Utd 11 Leicester 2
Shots on target - Man Utd 4 Leicester 0
Passes - Man Utd 303 Leicester 190

first hour was the worst performance of this, and maybe any season. last 30 was fine but by then leicester were just sitting back and dont have the breakway players that even southampton troubled us with. one of the most disappointing wins i can remember.

Very poor for an hour. The two subs did well. Miles offside for the winner but we’ll take anything we can with United at the moment.

Lucky there was no VAR, but I’ll take anything at this stage.
In the circumstances, we need a bit of cheating, some bad refereeing decisions in our favour and lots of good luck.

Change Dorgu for Dalot in that line up at the final whistle and that’s probably the best we can field at the moment.

.

That was genuinely a dreadful performance, good thing we won. But wow... awful. Dalot as LWB has to stop, Amad RWB and Dorgu LWB going forward, please. Also why must we concede before any sign of urgency to attack comes to the players :nervous: ?

Maguire was clearly offside as well, finally some luck with refs our way.

Absolute dire first half.
Great Garnacho cameo and should have scored more if we had a quality striker.

Brutal, as Dubs say. First half was dire watching. But we win. Dorgu alright. Maguire good, Amad very good. Thank feck for Garna. Phew we didn’t have to endure extra time. Leicester did run out of steam. Maz played alright too

Good job you weren't the linesman because that 'corner' was a long way outside the D, indeed about 10 times the amount Maguire was offside

Futile focusing on individuals in my opinion when most of the team is either not performing well or not performing well consistently.

We need some confidence throughout the team and a lot more time on the training pitch.

Nicked an offside goal against a relegation team! Play like this in 9 days and spursyspurs will trash us by 3. Not enough sorry, do better

Odd feelings after that.

A win is a win but we are a putrid footballing side.

Once the adrenaline buzz of a last second winner wears off, you're just left thinking; "So lucky." and it's the same with almost all our recent decent results.

Ten men away at Arsenal. A one in a million win really.

Southampton; Could've been 3-0 down at home to the worst side in Premier League history at half time. 10 minutes of Amad magic saved us.

Rangers; Last second winner after another poor performance.

Fulham; Atrocious performance. Winner courtesy of a bizarre deflection.

FCSB: The only genuinely solid performance we've put in.

Tonight; One of the worst first halves I've seen from us, ever. Turned up after about an hour and won courtesy of a blatantly offside goal.

There is nothing to take from these matches. There is no progression. It's just luck.

We won, which is the most important part but this system Amorim insists upon is making us look a lot worse than we are. Until Garnacho came on and played as a winger we had no penetration whatsoever. I'm slowly giving up hope on Ruben being able to coach this system successfully at EPL level.

First half was so poor. We didn't concede many chances other than for that goal but my God it was poor. Second half was much better and think even without Maguire's offside goal, we'd have won it in extra time. Still, far from good performance.

Garnacho and Zirkzee really good as impact subs, Amad got better in 2nd half as well.

We have to pray now to get an away game in next round as we're shite at home.

Should add rating manager in the postmatch threads.

Happy to win, of course, but there's so little evidence of real development and improvement.

Given the time Amorim has been here, you'd expect to see some learnings, bit his system is brutal with these players. Dorgu looked reasonable.

I don’t know why the first half was such a massive turd. I’m not sure whether it was Amorim trying to be clever or trying to experiment in a game that’s pretty low risk since it’s a second string Leicester, but boy was it an excruciating watch.

I hope Zirkzee benches Hojlund at this point. How many more chances is Hojlund going to get? Couldn’t make it happen against that Leicester back line.
We've been saying this for a long while that neither are good enough to start, but one of them usually does anyway. Whichever one comes in late usually does better.

Worst than the first hour v Newcastle or Southampton at home recently.. very debatable I'm thinking. Worrying these worst performance are becoming all the more consistent now.

Amorim’s post match interview.
He is not happy at all with the performance.
Looked quite angry in fact.

1. 4 wins in last 5 games in all comps. Have to better our results in the league.
2. The linesman is a member of RedCafe and a season ticket holder.
3. Garna should be in the first XI.
4 2 left footed players on on the right and 2 right footed players on the left is a bit too much…please play at least 1 natural crosser.
5. Maz should play RCB only - he is consistently good there and consistently shot elsewhere.
6. Højlund is in “out of sync” state this season.
7. ZZ as AMC is interesting.
8. Amad should play RWB. His defensive instincts are underrated/overlooked.
9. Can we please bench Dalot?

This team needs pace, without a shadow of doubt.
Dorgu on the left with Garnacho at 10 is a start, hopefully Amorim has bought him to play that side.
Amad as right wing back, with a strong 10 on his side will also be a step in the right direction.
If we don't get pace into this team we are royally screwed.

This, friends, is the magic of the FA Cup, when a scrappy team of cloggers can ride their luck to a faerie tale ending. The FA Cup gives Palookaville clubs like ours a moment to dream.

i think so in the context. Newcastle are a far better team at least, even though that was an awful showing. Tonight had the relief of a cup tie, friday, at home and in dire need of a response to a home loss. We looked like a very poor, walking football team.

Seven or eight games ago, we were losing, but you could see what Ruben was trying to do, now you can't, we're going backwards and i have no idea who's fault it is anymore. We're miles away from bang average never mind coherent. Incompetence from the top all the way down. How do you e

First half was diabolical. Truly diabolical. A half decent team would have been out of sight of us at half time.

Better 2nd half, introductions of Garnacho and Zirkzee made a difference.

I can't take any more of Dalot at LWB. Thought the arrival of Dorgu was going to be the end of it but apparently not. It'll get him the sack if he persists with it because if he's waiting for Dalot to improve in that position, he'll be a long time waiting.

We’ve stopped running again, until we concede. Against Pool, City & Arsenal we probably ran 50% more than tonight. First half was more like Strictly Come Dancing - one, two, to the side and back. Still staggered that he played Dorgu on the right, though thought he was one of our best players in the first half. Lucky win in the end.

Missed this because I had a game.

Any point watching it back or will the few highlights of the goals enough?
