Laughing at your failures is one of the most common responses to feeling disappointed. Look it up! Not everyone needs to be a Keane!
I understand some people laugh at their failures in life but I personally think that laughing whilst there are millions of people watching you who are hurting like heck from this defeat is the wrong thing to do.

True. It's wrong. But he is the least of United's problems right now!

Hhhmmm not sure. I don't think our starting XI is among the top 10 in Europe. There will be a tremendous amount of work for any eventual Mourinho replacement to do. It'll be a number of years before we're competing again (assuming we are at some point competing again).

We have lot of quality, if not forced to play as wingbacks or full backs can hurt opposition badly, any manager with attacking intent will have his eyes lit up with the quality we have.

Our image of our players is made up by being exposed as a result of the tactics, and we carry them along too much in assessment of our players. They are not used on their strenghts. We have a squad when used to full potential can employ various systems and be great going forward with little more creativity and automatisms and better attacking drills then on display currently.

Apart from a right winger we have every thing a good attacking manager can dream of having, Mourinho just doesn't have the ability to use it.

The likes of Herrera and fred totally being wasted who can be used as pressing machines. Rashford and Martial play as wingbacks half the time, Sanchez is being wasted when he needs to play much closer to oppositions goal, bailly can play much better, similar with lindelof if there is def mid who is willing to press in the middle and hold the play.

If we bought right in the market this summer, we could be on a different level, and we have all the resources to get there, our managers lack the vision to build this team. Even simple proactive pressing can make us look so better at times when we are chasing the game, but we don't do it for 90 mins on same intensity wonder why not.

A proper manager who wants to attack can improve our current players on a very good level. Even the likes of Lukaku looked much better at Everton than under mourinho, he was a bully albeit, players were vary of him back at Everton, now he is just super easy to handle.

We need a few tweaks I agree , but not 500 m worth of quality.

Why do we keep doing the same thing over and over?

We play Lukaku up front by himself because he's a big lad despite the fact he can't hold the ball up for toffee. Other than occasionally scoring headers against average defenders all his best work comes from picking the ball up wide right and running at full backs... and he also sticks in some great crosses.

All Sanchez's best games over the last 3 years have been up top through the middle but we keep playing him wide?!?!

Our midfield completely lacks dynamism but we keep playing Matic in a 2? Get Fred and Pereira in there!

Martial - Sanchez - Lukaku

Pogba - Pereira - Fred

Give something different a go!

Ssssshhhhhhh, you’re speaking sense and that isn’t the norm in these parts. I’d also have Dalot and Shaw as first choice full backs too so we actually had some natural attacking width and pace overlapping two wide forwards playing on the opposite side to their strongest foot.

- at one point in the first half Matic literally took half of the pitch to turn on the ball. We may as well play an oil tanker in midfield. At another point Lukaku did the same thing and didn't even have the ball afterwards.

- why do our players insist on spending the entire first half of games doing absolutely nothing? The second half was fine in that we were trying against a better team. What planet are you on though to think you can turn up for 45 minutes against Juventus? It barely worked against Newcastle.

- Lindelof looked like he knew what he was doing when we were pushing up the pitch. He played well. When we sit back he is a massive pain in the arse to the whole team. Why do we insist on playing to the weaknesses of our own players?

- We made no subs. So presumably Mourinho was completely happy with everyone on the pitch and didn't think anyone on his bench could offer anything different? We were LOSING

This is despite the fact Lukaku, Martial and Rashford were all poor. In fact Lukaku and Rashford were shockingly bad. Matic only bothered to play for half the game. Shaw was poor and looked knackered. Young looked like he was copying all the bad bits of Valencia and by the end had resorted to just booting the ball up in the air. Mourinho was so happy with all this in spite of us being a goal down, he felt no need to change it?

- Rashford is still taking corners. Not only is he one of the worst players ever at taking corners, but I'm pretty sure he also scores from getting on the end of corners more than any of our other players. He's done it at least 3-4 times. It is like we are deliberately TRYING to be shit. Why not also put Mata at the far post on set pieces and gave Fellaini take all of them? Thats how stupid we are being. It is beyond belief.

Mourinho whines on about other teams being better, but we are SO FECKING LAZY when it comes to getting the best out of what we have, we can't even be bothered to learn to take corners correctly. It's like moaning that it's completely impossible to be as good at driving as someone else, whilst repeatedly refusing to learn how a gear stick works.

Jose needs to leave this CB agenda. Where we defend fine for the most part our attacking play was static and lacking any creative play. But Jose is insinuating that the fundamentals of attacking well is having 2 solid centre backs so the attacking players are not afraid to make mistakes and therefore play better.

Look at Arsenal (who I've not been that impressed by as a team) shit defence but they're capable of attacking very well.

Tired of Mourinho's moaning and sly digs.

It's a coping mechanism. Very common. I don't grude him that when he is individually among our best performers. I'd be on the case of some others who barely give a shit when they are on the pitch but show remorse when we lose!
As I said I dont think that's the case at all.

Back from OT. Credit to Juve, they outclassed us. It's hard to take and it's a stark reminder of far we are from our own illustrious past.

But that's football. You take the rough with the smooth.

P.S (and this is nothing new), but Old Trafford has become such a nice place for the opposition to play football - even in Europe. OT could on occasion produce a a febrile, white-hot atmosphere - we knew when and how to influence the match from the terraces. But tonight there was a sense of resignation amongst the fans - once the pattern of the match was set, it didn't feel like the players would even respond to our support. The players didn't give us anything to work with and Juventus were able to enjoy themselves.

No real big reaction to the result, it’s becoming the norm, which is a worry.

Even the players look like they accept getting beat without feeling to bad about it.

On to the next match I guess.

I am tired of Mourinho overlooking matic's Bad performances after performances. The cbs today were not so bad either and they could do little when matic let's his man run past him, after both cbs are out of picture.

It’s just an easy target for him to point his finger at. Had we signed alderwereild and still playing his awful brand of football he would have started talking about how we need a RW, then when we signed one we need a proper CF, and then eventually he would deflect all the way back to needing a new CB.

Especially as smalling and Lindelof were both among our better players. It is getting incredibly tiresome.

Our team is unbelievably poor & lacks serious quality. The team cannot even play basic football (which is nothing to do with Jose’s tactics) & at times looked comical up front. I’m sick of saying this now but we need a overhaul of least half of the team. Yes Juve were exceptional in defence but as a whole they weren’t brilliant. I actually thought we could’ve nicked a draw & we should’ve capitalise on their errors but because of the lack of quality we couldn’t even manage that. DDG was class & Lindelofs best performance by far since he’s been here. Our midfield was non existent & our attack completely devoured of any ideas. The team today was just empty & this is the same team that did really well against Chelsea. Lukaku needs to be benched & so does Matic both have been really poor this season. I really cannot see us winning any silverware ATM or the near future not unless someone or group whith serious financial backing & hunger can come to the rescue of our club because we really do need to sort this out now.

Neither did Juve. Their only real chance was their goal and one 25 yard strike from probably the GOAT. Defensively, that was a good performance. Offensively, not so much. We were poor in the first half - but clearly the better team in the second.

I'd hope the team takes some confidence from that game. Juve are definitely the best team in the UCL this year - and we were never out of the game. This isn't a knock out game - and we had a bunch of players injured.

Not sure we saw the same match

For all the complaints about our alleged lack of quality of players, the main difference I saw tonight was Juventus being able to expose the gaps in our defense a lot better than we were on the other hand. Granted, their defenders are simply better than ours (although Lindelöf did rather well), it’s also their tactical setup which allowed them to be a lot more threatening than us. Their players didn’t do anything special, they simply seemed to be able to open us up a lot more and it seemed to have a lot to do with how Allegri set them up.

With that being said, I still see a massive midfield problem. Matic is a ridiculous passenger for us and surely needs replacing.

Matic is like a farmer playing football on the pitch wearing wellies , slow, lethargic and a real weak link

I am not disputing this, but this is a damning indictment on Mourinho on a player he bought for around 40 million just over a year ago, & probably explains Woodwards reluctance in handing him ever more cash.

I do not think Matic lacks quality, he just struggles with playing almost every game and also struggles against certain opponents. It is, however, worrying that a player who could replace him and who was our big summer signing doesn’t even receive a chance anymore.

Don’t worry - it’s just the actions of an individual that knows their time is coming to an end; demob happy, if you will. The players are also feeding off this (both his risk averse attitude and the general negative atmosphere currently at the club). The difference in our team will seem extreme when he finally leaves.

Whenever we went to press, they walked round us.

They have much better players than us.
Because Mourinho doesn't know how to implement a proper pressing system nor does he know how to implement an attacking system here, based on the 3 seasons at the club so far.

Erm, Juve had 70% possession in the first half and finished over 60%, a lot more shots, had openings on the counter without being clinical but never, ever being threatened. They were away to their "biggest" threat in the group. They had a lead from the 18th minute. They were comfortable and barely broke a sweat. If you think that is encouraging from United, then you must expect us as a club to be no better then mid table in the premier league on a regular basis. It was a pitiful performance. Only losing 1-0 isn't a good thing, we had all game to do something and did nothing. That's nothing but concerning.

If that happens can Lukaku and Pogba go with him ?
I wish. Though Pogba has been alright on the whole this season IMO, with some very obvious weaknesses but far better then last year. But would still have no complaints if we got rid of the 3 of them. Would feel relieved if anything.

I've already created a thread about this - please visit x

The worst thing though is we wouldn’t be any better with new manager. Unless he can buy 5-6 new players tomorrow.

To be honest, I didn't expect much other than that so I'm not gonna be as negative as some.

Didn't expect us to be completely rolled over but knew our attack would let us down, particularly if we conceded first because we struggle to break down anyone, nevermind one of the best set up sides in Europe. We were completely outclassed in the first half an hour but grew into it and our inability to create anything cost us.

Ah well, at least Valencia dropped two points so all is not lost.

That second half reinvigorated my support for Mourinho. We drew the second half 0-0 against one of the best teams in Europe. Back Mourinho and he will deliver. All he needs is £500 million more and a couple more years and we might be able to nick a 1-0. He is a winner who deserves more time and more love from our fans.

Why do people make comments like this. As shown Conte won the league after talking over Chelsea the following year after Mourinho sacking, Sarri & Emery this year say hello. Happens all the time with managers taking over & improving teams, at least for awhile, with the same squads.

The absolute epitome of men against boys tonight. We are miles off from being considered an Elite team. Our name can only do so much for us.

So many things need restructuring in this club from the top all the way down.

Why do people overrate our players so much? And it’s still early days for Sarri and Emery.

Many of ours players would be lucky to get minutes for other English topp clubs.

I am not overrating them, & have been very critical of the likes of Sanchez & Pogba. Myself & others on here just feel that there is a good possibility that many of these players, particularly the offensive ones, would perform much better with a quality offensive manager.

Disagree. I think the change in how the players will perform under an attacking manager will make us look like a completely different team.

Do we have a squad to play attacking? Martial and Rashford are not ready to be starters every week, we have no attacking fullbacks. Striker who can’t control a football.

It all felt very inevitable sadly. The gulf in class was evident, Only DDG and Lindelof played really well. The rest tried but the fact is we're just nowhere near their level. I honestly got the feeling they never had to play to their full potential to dominate us.

On a side note, I thought Sandro looked impressive at left back (defensively at least). I can see why we were linked with him. Jose's obvious digs at the board's ambition were on display again in the post-match conference and I guess he's half right but the two worst players for us tonight were Lukaku and Matic (HIS signings). If we're meant to be bridging the gap then I don't think these are the players to do it.
