Post-match discussion

The worst thing is - it’s the new manager’s first game and they put that much effort in. Quite telling how this will end.

We can’t expect to be competitive in this league with a starting midfield of Casemiro and Eriksen, it doesn’t matter who are manager is

The changes he made in the second half definitely stifled Ipswich and they didn’t really do much after that.

Hopefully he’s learnt that Casemiro and Eriksen is a horror combination, and Evans is a relief player.

A big part of that was Ipswich running themselves into the ground by pressing like maniacs in the first half.

You're right about that pairing being awful though, they were miles off the physicality required to stand up to that kind of press.

Onana is the only reason we don't lose this game today. The only one.

Poor Ruben. In all the multiverses in existence, the poor man got the United job in the worst one.

There wasn't a single pass into a half-space today. It was just circulate left, circulate right, circulate left, circulate right, pass back, pass back again to GK, reset, and resume pendulum.

Not great. I liked the width we had at some points, especially towards the start. Feel like Amad is going to be an important player over the rest of the season.

Play Amad closer to their goal, not as a rwb. Shaw should be a wing back not a center back. Also play ugarte and casemiro in midfield.

Hopefully this guy is not as stubborn as Erik.

Hopefully in a month we start to see the system take shape.

I think we need top class full backs that can attack the entire game. I also think the back 3 didn't help today.

We need a good base (when Yoro, De Ligt and Martinez are fit) and the 2 full back can then be all out attack.

Not much has changed, squad is mid table quality and changing the manager was never going to fix that over night.

Played well

For 90 seconds

Zirkzee crosses remind me of Bebe

Draw a fair result in end . Underwhelming performance if he didn't already know Amorim should know now he's got a big task on his hands to wake up this sleeping giant of a club.

Shite, demoralising performance, but it's only one game after three training sessions. Still feck the club if they don't think this squad needs an overhaul, our players cannot run or pass.

Honestly, /I enjoyed it for the most part. Can see the how he wants us to play.

I'm glad he's got to see how inept and worrying it is that we can't bloody score goals. He's got to solve this problem and I believe he will.

We'll be fine.

I don't get it. Amorim said 1 day training is not enough and proceeded to start with Garnacho and Eriksen.

Boring game.

Onana MotM, followed by Amad and Mazraoui.

He said he will start with the wing backs more defensive whilst the players adapt.

start Hojlund drop rashford
Move Amad to one of the 10s drop garnacho shaw in at left wingback maz to the right
Start mainoo and ugarte drop cas and eriksen
Yoro and Martinez in for Evans and Dalot

Will make a big difference once the players get used to the system

Ipswich became more cautious as soon as rashford went off tells you about rashford pace

Amad the only player who looked like creating anything, bar a few sparks from Bruno and Rashford. Hojlund and Zirkzee were both poor off the bench.

All in all, a bit of an anticlimax. But whatever the result today, I don't think it would have been indicative of anything. Far too early to be making any realistic judgements.

Not particularly impressive, not sure if Ruud would have set us up better but I think there's change afoot so I'll take the point and move on.
Ruud simply set us up in the way that best suits the squad, to play a low block on the counter-attack and I completely agree with that approach as an interim. Amorim now has the uphill battle of implementing a completely different system and approach which will take time and patience.

As long as I see steady improvement in his time here, I don't mind. My problem with ETH is we were getting progressively worse the longer he stayed here.

Given up on this club until there is a mass clear out of players and I see a commitment to not compromise on technique when bringing players in. Most of our players are shit on the ball.

Eriksen, Casemiro, Dalot, Rashford and Evans. Players I don't want to see start anymore for this team. All of them should get sold/phased out and replaced.

Shite performance and misjudged the starting XI. Garnacho doesn't seem to fit this system, at least not atm, very selfish as well. Zirksee is actually useless. Ugarte immediately changes the midfield dynamics after coming on. Bruno not involved enough. Onana, Maz and Diallo only 3 that was good throughout the match.

We already know he’s not as stubborn with the subs he made. He went for the game. ETH settles for draws

Got to be the least dangerous United team in my lifetime. Big job on for the new manager. Inherited a very average squad.
Only Van Gaal's team felt less likely to score. But that was because he insisted they only shot if it was a 90% likely to be a goal.

Weird lineup to start with. Why does Eriksen, Casemiro, Evans start. They're 100 years old together and it shows. They can't out that energy and ball winning in the middle.
Right subs except for Zirkzee so that's positive, together with Amad looking good. Not much else to be positive about

We played ok. At least it was clear what kind of football we should expect. But till take time

A few learning points. Amad is good! But should maybe be used at AM next to Bruno

Rashford is not able to play the positional play Amorim wants. He does not fit in at either wing backs, AM or CF. Should definitely be one of the first leaving when possible

Poor ruben looked a bit shellshocked at full time. I imagine he can't quite believe how tepid some of these guys are in matches.

Priority: coach passing to a team mate. Simple passes going astray time after time.

Where was Mainoo though? Still injured?

Amorim’s just realised what a massive job he’s got on his hands here. These players are fecking dire, it’s absolutely criminal how we’ve amassed such a bang average squad for the money that’s been spent.

Easy to see the advantages of the new system. Looked comfortable in possession and there were some really nice link-ups between Mazraouai/Bruno/Amad on the right.

I think Bruno and Amad will occupy the two forward positions going forward and it's really the wing back positions that we need to sort out.

Most of our players didn't play particularly well. Onana, Maz, and Amad were good, the rest were poor.
