FA L FA Cup 5th Round

Manchester United 1:1 Fulham

Post-match discussion

You'd have expected Fulham to be a lot better today given the substandard opposition they were playing.

Meh, lost to a better team with better players, who are still shit.

We have no threat going forward at all. Terrible forwards and Dalot is pointless.

Annoying as hell
Now only Europa League left
Just knew they'd blew this penality shootout
Why why why was Lindelof on there taking a penalty, was never gonna score

The season was done with the Amad injury. If you can score goals you can't win games.

Europa will be done soon enough too.
How do we win them then? I agree. Just waiting for next season at this stage. We need a world class striker too.

There is the problem.
We have 5 defenders 90% of the time, Ugarte who can't create anything ever, so 7 players to defend(gk included) and 4 to attack.
When you only have 4 players capable of attacking and other teams have 8, you can't create and consequently can't score.
At least Garnacho and Rasmus had better season than this. And you decide to loan Rashford, who scored more than all our attackers combined this season even if he played a fraction of the games, thinking no one will get injured, like ever.

Shite. So frustrating again.

Obi played OK when he came on, that's a positive. Still don't think he's ready to start though.

I'm like a broken record on this but Amorim needs to adapt quickly or he shouldn't see the end of the season.

It's a problem that isn't getting better. We saw it with Rashford last season where you keep playing players because there's either no one else or you're just praying for them to hit form eventually, and it doesn't happen.

Struggling to see how we solve this between now and the end of the season.

Time to focus on getting knocked out of Europa. Surprised we even equalized with how lethargic we were.

Even though 90% of them are the same players who finished 3rd in the Premier League 18 months ago and reached the last 2 FA Cup finals?
And then played even worse than now, under that same manager who "finished 3rd" and blah blah blah.

I think Fulham are a good side, so I don't have a problem with a draw against them in 90 minutes, even at Old Trafford. The performance was really bad, though. And really boring.

The biggest problem is Amorim's insistence on playing 3-4-2-1. It's a really difficult system. You need at least one central defender who's good enough to play in midfield. You need a pair of wingbacks who are incredible athletes and as good at crossing as they are at defending. You need central midfielders who combine discipline with creativity. It's all just a massive ask, and it doesn't suit this squad. I've no doubt we'd have had better results over the last few months playing 4-2-3-1 with someone like Silva as manager.

A secondary problem is that Hojlund is way out of his depth. Apart from him, the other players I think are capable of doing a job at United. But I suspect Hojlund will never play for a really big club again in his career.

It's all a mess and the people in charge maybe can't even see that, let alone find a way out of it.

problem is now that I go into every game thinking we are going to lose, or at least struggle to win, and by and large that’s what happens. Every game we have played the opposition always seems to run more, challenge more, and that’s makes the difference, we seem to lose all the fifty fifty balls, also we are useless at playing out from the back.
So all in all we are poor.

Sick and tired of this season, yet I just realised I don't even look forward to next season either.

Dead squad, dead owners, dead coaches, dead stadium. Dead club.

On the bright side, us getting knocked reduces the amount of times I have to go through this pain this season.

Can’t say I’m surprised. No attacking quality and nobody to bring on that is ready bar Garnacho.

Our performances last season were affected by the fact we were destroyed by injuries and couldnt play the same back 4 in co secutive games, our performances at the start of this season under ETH and the Ruud were better than most of our performances under Ruben.

Dreadful. Garnacho changed things and added some pace and urgency. Obi looks great. I think Rasmus is out of lives. Buy a proper striker, keep Zirkzee because he’s actually got talent. Slowly integrate Obi into the team without wearing him out or putting too much pressure on him.

And current performance are affected by injuries to important players and very, very shit attackers who can't score in a brothel. So what's your point?

Sure the system might not be the best for current players, but if we changed to a system that fits them more, what will that do? Maybe push us up to 9th place? Woopty fecking doo... the reality is that 90% of these players needs replaced. No MATTER THE feckING SYSTEM OR COACH. Can't believe how many times this needs to be written.

We were ravaged by injuries last season and still managed to carry more of an attacking threat than this. We were an ugly side to watch under ETH but we weren’t this bad. We haven’t improved in one metric since Amorim arrived so I’d say it largely is the system to blame. We’ve got worse.

Next season won’t be much better, unless there’s a miracle transformation.
Most of the current squad will still be here, with a few leaving.
Amorim will still be trying to play the same way and even with a couple of new players, I think it’ll be the same story again;.

He shouldn’t have said that about winning the Premier League, that was a little cringe. He should have said this club needs European football next season to bring in much needed revenue to enable investment to strengthen the squad. By being knocked out of the FA Cup now makes the Europa League a must win

I'm not sure, but I think having a shite keeper and no threat up front might be starting to cause problems.
Those definitely don't help.
But left wing back seemingly being our most important position and rotating between a green kid (not available today) and Dalot isn't half worrying.

I honestly think prime Roberto Carlos wouldn't make much impact in this team.

Eriksen, Evans and Lindelof will all be released for certain.
We probably have to face shifting one of Garnacho or Mainoo out to raise 50m or so with the home grown benefit that brings.

Then we'll probably bring 3-4 x 25-30m players in Dorgu punt style buys and hope we hit gold.

I know it's unlikely Amorim would agree to leave at the end of the season without compensation. But if he was willing to do that, on the basis that it's just not the right job for him, is there anyone who'd want to try and change his mind?

This is the worst we’ve been since Ferguson left. LvG was boring at times but this takes the piss.

Frustrated with that again. At 1-1 with 20 mins to go and at home against a mid table team who were not even playing that well on the day, the chance is there to go and grab the game by the scruff of the neck and we didn’t take it.

On that basis don’t think we can have any complaints. But it’s a feeble exit and another rubbish day which sums up the season at this point.

When the titanic hits an iceberg changing the captain won’t stop it sinking.

The lack of patience for the first and only manager we have had who is not sacrificing his philosophy is one of the reasons United are destined to fail. United were 13th when Amorim came. It’s not as if he took over something that had won the league, or was even top 4 and completely ruined it.

My point is the perfornances arnt down to the players they are down to the fact we hired a manager that simply isnt right for this team because he has only 1 way of playing and that way of playing doesnt suit our squad in any way, Ruben's setup has made good players look absoutely terrible.

Well. Sociedad or bust. We lose to them and that's literally it for this season. In March.

It'd be hard to argue we'd lost any progress wouldn't it?

For some reason people seem to think other managers would "Limit" us to mere competing for top 4/6, whereas Amorim has the ability to take us back to the top.
He might have that ability, but very hard to see any evidence so far.

Strongly agree with this. Only Hojlund looks incapable of performing at a club of United's stature. The others all have something to offer, and many of them showed that a couple of seasons ago. You can't tell me the likes of Villa just have a massively superior squad. That's nonsense.
