FA L FA Cup 5th Round

Manchester United 1:1 Fulham

Post-match discussion

Sun, 02 March 2025

Let's be honest, we'd not hope in he'll winning the FA cup given the teams left, even if we had got past Fulham.

The players are so shockingly poor at every facet of the game, I only see even dark days ahead because we simply do not have the money and PSR wriggleroom to change them. Amorim is also going nowhere unless Ineos want to start next season with pints deduction due to the cost of sacking him.

I don't also think the players care much, sick and tired of hearing the post-match interviews about how it's 'up to them to be better' but come match day it's the same old drivel. Season can finish for me today really not expecting anything from the 12 or so games left, other than lucky relegation survival because there are 3 worse teams than us!

Still don't know what he's about. If he has the players, then he will show his true colors? But we know that time does not slow down until the start of the new season.

A loss for United, a win for football. In a game between two below-average sides the side won that tried to take on the game and play football. We look like a relegation fodder side, we defend so deep but do it with light weight players. We smash the ball forwards like Stoke without anybody to be able to make it stick. Stuff just isn't fitting together. I have no clue what Amorim is thinking with those midfield combinations but it just isn't working. Obviously it also doesn't help that the rest of the team is as deflated as it is but still, we go into such games at a disadvantage. Based on that game, I'd take Iwobi, Lukic, Castagne, Muniz and Sessegnon right from Fulham.

Obi isnlt really ready, but its a free shot because hojlund isn't either.

I think I'd have obi start games, he gives defenders something to think about, which hojlund just does not, and I also think he is better suited to the way zirkzee plays.

Camped in are own half majority of the game, to a very poor Fulham. The lack of urgency is the only thing consistent about this time. Humiliated every other week with these performances, good luck on Thursday without the ball in Spain, you'll need it.

It’s hard to admit that we are not better and we are not progressing. There is no way we will win the EL even though it’s up for grabs with the teams that are in it. So no Europe next year and no big spending in the summer. It is going to be a long tough climb back to something that resembles the old United.

Unless we can nail our scouting I think we are going to be in a very difficult position.

We are in a position where we dont have the money to spend big but clubs will still want relatively big money off us for lesser players and prospects, who could turn out good for us or could just not work out.

Surviving relegation every season could become the new objective here.

3rd time this season Fulham have outplayed us. We won the first two and if we’re honest, it would be unfair to have won all 3.

Our only semi consistent source of goals is Bruno. Garnacho can't score at all this Season, today is another example of semi decent chances fluffed. Hojlund doesn't even get in any positions to get a chance, Zirkzee is not remotely a goal threat and Obi is a young 17 year old rookie. Those are the only players we have who should be scoring on a semi consistent basis. We can complain about the level of performance or whether we've being too defensive etc etc. But ultimately the players we have as options right now are all in abysmal form outside of Bruno.

It's all down to the club going into February with only 4 recognised forwards and once Diallo got his injury that was it.

Chido in his limited time on the pitch has shown why getting a decent striker is essential. All the BS about us not creating chances yet Chido managed to get on the end of three in less than an hour. Rasmus hasn’t got on the end of any for over ten matches
Correct. I said this about Rasmus last year and got abuse for it. Positioning and movement is so important for a striker, even moreso than their finishing (though the best strikers will obviously have both). Obi's positioning today was excellent and very promising for the future. Whether he's ready to be our starting striker right now is another question, but I hope he gets more mins between now and the end of the season to see if he can build on this.

Hojlund is still quite young in his own right, but the reality is he's been given loads of chances now and shown no sign of improvement. I'd prefer if he was consistently getting chances but missing them. The fact that he simply doesn't get chances or rack up shots (his fault for not making the right runs) makes me very sceptical he'll ever be good enough. He certainly shouldn't be starting for us right now.

I thought there were some good to decent performances in there. Team structure was good, the set up looked good.

But same old problem. The forward players are giving us nothing.

Next up - out of Europa League.

Amorim is running out of credit, fast. Does he realise he has to work with most of this squad next season too? How is finishing just above relegation and losing every other week going to help him?

On the flip side, after he's been sacked, we won't be seeing 5 at the back ever again, so there's the silver lining.

What are you expecting honestly?
You've got 5 time CL winner Casemiro just controlling yhe ball and throwing it over the top blindly EVERY SINGLE TIME. His alternative? Eriksen who can't complete 60 minutes cause he had a heart attack a few years ago.

You've got Garnacho who can't pass to save his life running into 3 players. Hojlund who I donno what's wrong with him and needs a break and switch with an experienced strike partner. And no, a 17 year old bambi on ice striker isn't the answer either (for now). Its waaaaaaaay to early to throw this kid on but not other options sadly.

You've got a keeper who does everything except catch the ball and takes 2 minutes to do every goal kick.

Then you have Dalot, I don't want to waste anymore words on him.

The 1 guy he's actually signed has shown good promise.

No FA Cup prize money this season either. More layoffs on the way and the staff are only allowed leftover porridge.
I am on site right now and Jim Ratcliffe just came in personally and removed the letters "o" and "t" from all computers in the office as part of the further 10% reductions.

S Enjy h nex few maches, lads, I 's ging be a rugh few mnhs ahead f us

They're giving worse than nothing

This season is a nightmare. Worst I have seen since Fergie left. So far it is worse under amorim then Ten Hag but to be fair he deserves the chance to try his shit here. He need the players for his style because as he said he does not know anything else. I don't know where we can fin the money to fund his transformation but we have to try it. If this shit continues next season then I say sack him but this season goes on the management for not sacking ETHat theendofthe last season.

Someone posted Lindelof in a dress in the match thread. The second time I’ve smiled today. Thanks caf!

I thought we were a little better today. Managed to keep possession created some ok chances. Eriksen was making a huge difference in our attacking play. Bad luck with the goal right before half time.

Considering how much injuries we have I think we did ok. Didn’t expect much else. Imagine Chido puts it in before extra time. That would have been something!

Amad,Martinez,Mainoo injuries basically ended whatever chance United had in this cup competition and sadly it will end Europa league hopes.

Would prefer to get knocked out by a side not as average as Fulham who didn't even play well to progress.

In honesty I expected we'd lose, I didn't think we'd even get to penalties.

Given we're now a lower mid-table side, it's hardly a shock we lose to a decent side in Fulham, is it?

This rebuild is painful, but we need to try and relax a bit. Everyone losing their minds after every loss is not going to help anything.

Over 120 minutes how many chances did we really make? How many times did it feel like Fulham were really on their heels and had to fight and scramble to keep us out. The busiest Leno was all night was in the penalty shootout.

Just not good enough and none of us can have any complaints.

The pattern is set. We will limp through the end of this season, thankfully escaping relegation because of the standard below us. But I fear for next season. Genuinely.

That's what the Amorim-out posters have been vocal about wanting. Hopefully they're happy at least. Trash football with too many below average players.

Both teams were incredibly average today. And that's about where we are after half a billion pounds spent.

Chido Obi isn't ready yet but he needs to start a few games before the end of the season, looks like a real handful and let's be honest it's not like our side is full of goals right now so he might as well get the experience.
