PL L FA Premier League

Manchester United 0:2 Crystal Palace

Post-match discussion

Sun, 02 February 2025

We spent way too much on too many development project types. Worst planning ever. Too many first teamers look like they should be out on loan or might never even make it

The speed we slow down to passing the ball compared to how Palace passed the ball highlights everything wrong with this team.Struggling with basics.

The money spent building a squad of such poor quality is staggering.

Another rubbish afternoon at Old Trafford, absolutely sick of turning up and losing with such hopeless displays. Amorim took a risk with the team today, by dropping the centre forward, it didn’t work and we had very little cutting edge. To rub salt into the wounds, I expect Martinez is done for the season which leaves us in a very concerning place.

Who’s doing better? When are we realising it’s the squad we’ve built over the last 3/4/5 years? Where’s the proof that we’re even capable of achieving the level you think another manager would?

Our league form has been in the toilet for a lot longer than Amorims reign. He’s inherited a broken squad with players incapable of doing the basics. What are you expecting from him?

We’re absolutely shite and it’ll take a lot longer for us to become good if we sack him for yet another manager.

Have some fecking patience. Maybe some perspective too.

You're asking me to prove a negative?

No one is saying he should be sacked. You're reading that out of a weird sense of attachment/need to be defensive

Amorim was brought him because we believed he could do better than the previous guy with the reasoning as reported by TheAthletic being "they reasoned there comes a point when the manager is responsible through a deficiency of motivation or communication." So far, he has failed to satisfy the idea for which he was employed in the first place - therefore questions need to be asked about potential deficiencies he currently has so that they can be addressed.

We're shite - it is known. 14 points out of a possible 39 is not acceptable even for our previous lows.

It's not been good - the manager isn't infallible nor responsibility free

Another difficult watch.

The flicks and tricks didn't work
Long balls didn't work and the short passes just seemed to ricochet wildly and we rarely benefitted
They just seemed to cut through us on demand
Amad anonymous for large parts
Maz looked a square peg
Martinez injury horrendous and one of our better players today. Fingers crossed for him.
I think Hughes should've been booked ages before he did

Trying to fight the pre-match dread and stay optimistic. Nightmare of a Sunday hahaha

If you’re suggesting he’s not half decent then you’re wasting your daily posts.

Who we bringing in that gets a tune out of this lot? And what is it gonna take for people to wise up and see that sacking managers again and again whilst giving the same players another chance is beyond fecking idiotic.
Any PL manager gets a better tune out of them. There is nothing special about Amorim. His one feature is fanatical devotion to a system we can’t fecking play.

I know we have a club line of "training sessions" but how can David Moyes change things at a beleaguered Everton straight away but we make the same mistakes now as we did under ETH? Basically we end up being so open and always focus on passing back

13/14: RvP, Rooney, Welbeck, Chicharito
14/15: Rooney, RvP, Falcao, Welbeck, Chicharito
15/16: Rooney, Martial, Memphis, Chicharito
16/17: Zlatan, Rooney, Memphis, Martial
17/18: Zlatan, Martial, Sanchez, Lukaku, Rashford
18/19: Lukaku, Sanchez, Martial, Rashford, Greenwood
19/20: Martial, Rashford, Ighalo, Greenwood
20/21: Cavani, Martial, Rashford, Ighalo, Greenwood
21/22: Ronaldo, Cavani, Martial, Rashford, Greenwood
22/23: Ronaldo, Martial, Rashford, Greenwood, Weghorst
23/24: Martial, Hojlund, Rashford
24/25: Hojlund, Zirkzee, Rashford
I would happily take Lukaku back at this stage. He got slaughtered by United supporters but scored a goal about every 2 games for us.

It's another shit show in front of goal all the other stats they be wanking over , passes completed passes corners duels won lost etc etc, well 1 duel was lost concede a goal. Main stat is scoreline. You could see it coming every game is a mirror image , groundhog day at OT.

Fulham away was same if they scored first we would have lost, only Southampton was different as there worse than us.
Your going to get the same crappy answers I told you about suffering etc etc.
One plus and that's if this side get a striker or players who can score goals it should improve a lot. We got Amad if he gets a bad day like today we suffer as there's nobody to score. .

Once again a good example of toothless possession football. This team has no future, but first priority is to get rid of players with the highest salaries: Rashford, Casemiro, Bruno, Shaw, Mount, Maguire, Lindelof, Eriksen, Antony.

This team is like a roulette wheel where every bet is on red. All of the players had an off day today. We played ok for first 15 minutes and was done as an attacking threat. We huffed and puffed, but there’s still too slow in the buildup. I feel sorry for Amorim as you can’t polish a team of turds

Oh and more thing when both Bruno and Amad are having a shit day at the office, you can kiss any chance of us getting a goal. They where both sloppy and bad today, sure Amad created some chances, but think this was his worse match after Amorim took over.

I didn't actually think we were that bad to be honest.
Maz is not a wing back and we need a striker.
We knew this already.

At some point Amorim's in game management has to be a topic to talk about as we’re dominated pretty much every week and whilst I get we don’t have his ideal playing squad Amorim seems so stubborn in refusing to tweak things in game, even with the subs it’s just a different player coming on into the position of the player coming off position wise.

From what we’ve seen Amorim's man management and demands from the players effort wise is top notch BUT it’s been clear for a long time Dalot is NOT going to work at left wing back and Mazraoui is NOT a wing back full stop then there’s Mainoo as a false 9 whilst playing with two 10’s thus meaning the front three all playing in the same spaces and no one up top.

Honestly I don’t know why we’re not playing players from the academy seeing as there’s players there that would fit the system perfectly like Amass, Kukonki, Kone, the Fletcher twins and Obi-Martin rather than constantly playing players out of position and it killing us every week and aa seen over the past couple of years in Garnacho and Mainoo you don’t know what will happen until you give them a chance to play but I doubt it’ll be worse.

I think we need to give Yoro a bit longer for goodness sake. 18 years old and playing in a teams shipping goals. You think he’ll stem the tide on his own?
A bit longer for what?
One can see the future potential of such players and it's just not there for Yoro.

So after Thursday we all said that Mainoo's best position looks to be the 10 behind the striker and we all saw how effective Garnacho was coming off the bench against tired defences.. So why tinker again and play Mainoo as a false 9 and confuse the players again? So frustrating.

Good job you didn't included the circa 2000 era.

Solskjaer, Cole, Yorke, Sheringham.

All 4 of those are light years ahead of anything United have had for about 5 years now and any one of them would walk into the current team.

I don't think that's purely a Utd flaw though, there just isn't a lot of elite strikers in the modern game. Liverpool, Arsenal, United, Spurs, Chelsea, none of them have a World class striker. City and Newcastle have 1 a piece, and that's pretty much it for the whole league. Used to be a time every top team in Europe had at least 1 on the teamsheet, maybe even 2-3.

If I had £1b now and a chairman said go get me two World class strikers, £500m each and offer them whatever they want in wages - I wouldn't really know where to start.

Haaland wouldn't move, neither would Mbappe and he's better as a LWF anyway. Isak would be gettable, but is he really that good or just big fish, small pond. Kane has lost his legs, as has Lewandowski. The jury is out on players like Osimhen and Gyokeres. There's just not a lot out there and definitely nobody that stands out above everyone else that isn't already tied down. Even players that looked to be rising stars like Evan Ferguson/Hojlund/Sesko etc haven't really kicked on.

Manager has to start being questioned. He needs to find solutions soon

Feel for Martinez

Incredibly shit day
Ruud til the end of the season, then bring him in and buy him the players he needs to make his system work would have been such a better option.
I’d rather we don’t sack him, as he’s been bought 1 player and had a lot of crap to deal with.

What is the point of watching United (serious question)? Entertainment, history, thrills. Winning happens when those things happen. I don’t care only about winning: I want us to play the way we did when it was electric.

I’m not sure Rimmy even cares about winning. He certainly doesn’t feel the humiliation/pain the way fans feel it. He wants to win but only playing his way, so playing his way is more important than winning. Okay, fair enough, if his system is going to be beautiful and entertaining. It isn’t . 5 defenders is bullshit. It’s antithetical to United’s DNA.

Another shit team that seems to have our number every time. At this point we have more bogey teams than not in the league.

Manchester United have failed to score a goal in four consecutive games against a single opponent for the first time ever in the Premier League.◉ L 0-1 vs. Palace◉ L 4-0 vs. Palace ◉ D 0-0 vs. Palace ◉ L 0-2 vs. PalaceAnd they've now lost four of their last five PL games at Old Trafford.
Yet another record broken.

West ham win and Everton win, we are 17th. Absolutely incredible and this has to fall on the manager. He could be a God next year but right now the team has no confidence, even if they are all a pathetic bunch of loosers. Yet he persists in demoralising any gain in every press conference, is so stubborn with his style of play, persists with his favourites, something needs to give. Dorgu will not save our season, playing the old system for the next few months may help us get back into the top 10.

Loads of feckers are saying he should be sacked  It’s not too difficult to find the posts. There’s no weird attachment going on here. You’re quick to jump to calling names.

It’s pretty fecking obvious that a manager isn’t infallible. It should also be clear that the squad is shite and you’re hinting that he should be sacked soon is total reactionary bullshit.

There’s too many “any manager should be able to do better than this” type posts going about. People can’t seem to see that we’re a very average side who are exactly where we should be.

Criminally poor transfer business and under funding everything around the club for 20 years has finally come home to roost. It takes longer than 3/4 months to fix on the pitch.

He needs time and not for the fans to yet again jump on a bandwagon of pressuring every fecking poor result out of some warped perspective that we’re better than we are, or that we have a right to win.

just toothless going forward....we have no striker, our two #10's are playing as wingers and our wingbacks are trying to play in the midfield...just mental

The manager found a team which was already not up to standard.
Do you want to sack him already ?

Maybe we should have just kept Moyes all along eh? Then we’d be absolutely fine.

That was overall a bag of wank performance. Can not say it nicer than this.
Blaming the midweek travel to Romania, not what you need preparing for a tough league game.
Lots of players looked off the pace

Started well, got progressively worse. Back to reality when we play a half decent Premier League team again where our weaknesses get exposed.

People will say about not playing a striker but it makes no difference. We're shite with and without our strikers on the pitch and hopefully will get a forward tomorrow.

Worrying that we are part way through a relatively “easier” run of fixtures on paper (as if there’s any easy games in the PL) and we are failing dismally.
This post New Year period was the opportunity for Amorim to get the team working and the bits of improvement we’ve seen here and there, hasn’t yielded the necessary results.

Harder games are coming up with Spurs and Everton away, Arsenal at home, plus Forest and Newcastle away either side of facing City at OT.

We had a chance of clawing ourselves out of the league basement, into the top half of the table, but we’re currently in a precarious 13th place and in danger of slipping into 15th or 16th.
Thank feck the bottom 4 are so bad, or we’d be facing a relegation scrap and in current form, we would struggle to survive.
