Maguire did well. Varane’s re-introduction would certainly make us hard to beat in the 4-2-2-2

3 points, clean sheet, players that were rotting getting some minutes (Dalot, Telles, Elanga, DVB), Fred getting involved more up the field, promising signs.

I wouldn't be so dismissive of Palace. They're one of our trickiest fixtures. Beat City, too.
They can be a real handful, but I thought they were quite poor tonight, happy to sit back given how we struggle to break down packed defences..

Fred was MOTM but how good was Dalot again? Wan Bissaka is going to have to work hard to get back in the side.

Positive goal difference at last.

Yeah he was trying really hard. But it was affecting his attacking game I thought.

Sure but as a first game in this system he did really well for me. I believe everyone was gassed in the second half. But in the first he was great. Also he absolutely pressed the whole game.

Promising start, high intensity 1st half. Hopefully, players start to get use to this. McTominay doesn't cut it for me, just a average footballer who has height and put a body on someone. If only Matic is 10 years younger then McTominay can sit of the bench as a spectator. I predict that by Feb, this team will be playing high intensity football and put fighting for top 4. It will be a sight to watch.

Solid performance and never in doubt. We are getting lot more alternatives with Dalot and Telles. Nice to see. When have that our fragile defending is less shown.
Fred makes you grow even more gray hair with his passing but that was beautifle goal and his energy is just amazing.

Ronaldo 38 years old and in 95 minute with that defensive sprint. Learn kids. Learn players. That is being professional.

Apart from the first 35 minutes we were tediously crap. As usual it took an individual moment to win the game albeit this time from an entirely unexpected source. Basically it was like Ole never left (or if you're being ultra specific about it the longer period where he was still fluking the majority of his wins before the bottom eventually fell out). Regardless it's going to take a very sizeable undertaking and certainly a change in personnel before we're going to look anywhere near convincing.

Really good first 35 minutes. High energy, pressed well, and some quick passing. However, I thought we fell off drastically after that, and the game became a bit of a slog. This is obviously going to take some time, as we've been under-coached for years.

Fred had a good game though, so credit where it's due. And I'm really liking these full-backs at the moment. AWB and Shaw aren't getting anywhere near the first team right now. As for Rashford...what the feck is up with him. His head's not in it at all.

Positives
- Very important to start with a win
-High pressing and getting mistakes out of opposition.
-Even though we pressed high, never got counter attacked which is always a worry against Palace
- Fred again useful in attack
- Manager trusting Elanga at 0-0 and making a sub by 60 minutes

No real negatives. We just need to improve fitness and keep intensity up longer. Ralf has to work on attacking positions as we didn't capitalize on mistakes in first half.

Far from a perfect display but such a change in gear from what we’ve been used to. There was so much more purpose to our play. Very promising start for RR and so pleased that Fred was our match winner today.

What are you on about? We pressed high the whole game and controlled possession like we never did under Ole. We didn't fluke the win we were clearly the better team we just lacked that final quality.

I enjoyed the game. All little tactical changes were quite interesting. Just the overall aggression from everyone was pretty evident to see. We did revert to those same old over the top through ball nonsense that never comes off but without the ball we were already so much better.

Almost exactly what I was going to write. Rashford and McT do not think and act quickly enough and I thought were passengers for the most part. High press means winning the ball early and executing quick passes to take advantage of the turnover. McT's first thought is pass backward because he doesn't see things quickly enough. Rashford wants the ball and dribble and then think what he should do.

I was surprised Sancho came off first and not Rashford. I'm excited when Sancho gets the ball with room, not excited when Rashford gets it.
Agree with all that. Sancho is levels above Rashford in his intelligence and decision making.

As for McT, he was also a liability defensively. He can't pass, he can't tackle; gave away so many fouls.

Some of the replies in here I thought I watched a different game and Palace bossed us and won.

Excellent win thoroughly deserved, tired in the 2nd half which is understandable but very encouraging.

I don't think that was their plan originally. They tried playing it out but we're getting completely overran.

For the first time in three years I finally saw what we were trying to do. Not perfect, still a lot to work on, but I can actually see what the team was sent out to do and tried to accomplish.

Much needed win, both in terms of Ragnick’s first game, and trying to catch the teams above us.

I don't know if Palace were very shit but I think they expected a bit more time on the ball. As most teams do when they face us in the last decade or more, they've used to having more time on the ball but we pressed very well, and quick (most importantly).

To be fair Benteke is the perfect striker to play a high line against but Lindelof and Maguire were good. Always closing down quickly. Let's see how we fare vs better teams.

It is a win. Looking forward to the January. I think this team will finally start to play properly. I hope no fallout of any players with Rangnick. Rangnick will give some players some much needed tough love.

That first 35 minutes was very tasty. Sign of things to come.

Drop McT and Rashford.
Yup. Pair of them stood out like a sore thumb. Even sancho and Ronaldo who didn’t have their best games contributed and tried to make things happen. No idea what the feck Rashford and Mctominay were doing in that match. So off the pace.

Good result.

The first half was encouraging but as expected with an unchanged team unaccustomed to playing with intensity we faded badly. Palace really could have snatched it.

Rashford is terrible and it’s time he was dropped for a long period. Everything he does looks so difficult for him - this has been going on for the best part of a year and even his better seasons were overrated in terms of performances.

McTominay and Fred aren’t going to play together in a side that consistently dominates, one has to go. Bruno’s place should be under serious pressure, he’s been so poor of late.

We’re getting more from the full backs and Fred looks rejuvenated since Ole left. Telles can still be frustrating but he’d been an upgrade on the shite that was Shaw. Has to keep his place. Rest all against YB and hopefully the side continues to progress. I think Cavani and Ronaldo will be our forwards if the former ever gets fit. We got into some good positions out wide but often only had Ronaldo to pick out.

You don’t understand building blocks?

Yeah early stages, when we pressed very well. After years of shite it's hard to know when it's the opponents being bad or us actually being good.

We’re winning while the new manager settles in to get his ideas fully implemented. It’s a perfect result.
