Manchester United 2:0 Chelsea

Post-match discussion

Sun, 16 April 2017

Funny thing is I bet not one of them will learn their lesson, they'll be in the next match day thread next weekend throwing their toys out the pram again.
That's the sad thing. Look at our performances between the Chelsea game in October and today. It's night and day. The main reason we are where we are isn't because of our recent form, it's because of our early season form, before we were a proper Mourinho team. 22 games unbeaten, even with all the draws, 46 points from 22 games is title winning form in most seasons, without even factoring in the unlucky results when we could easily have won but didn't... Things aren't half as bad as people here would have you believe.

What a completely unexpected performance! I couldn't even believe what I was watching to be honest - like a completely different team from the one we've been watching for the majority of the season.

Every single player was exceptional today, never been happier to be proven wrong by a starting 11. Completely dominated them, didn't give them an inch, took our chances well - brilliant. Jose, that was a tactical masterclass.

He's not the Gentleman some people made him out to be, is he? It's all fair and square to mention last season, but the season before should be also mentioned. It's surely aimed at Jose and he must be loving it.

Spurs Shelfside forum....

Before the game LOL
De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Rojo, Darmian, Fellaini, Herrera, Young, Pogba, Lingard, Rashford.

v

Begovic; Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Cahill (c); Moses, Kante, Matic, Alonso; Pedro, Diego Costa, Hazard.
Good god.....we want that Utd team to do us a favour...that starting 11 has 12 goals for the entire season between them:):):)

Yeah course, but at least they've got Ashley Young as their captain.
If this team beats Chelsea Id be almost tempted to start Sissoko, Jansen, Wimmer and Edwards next week in the semi final....

Is Mourinho really playing with a man marking on Hazard? Haha. It's always been beyond me that he's hailed as some tactical genius. But that's something you do with 12 year olds.

YES! And now United scored. Maybe I'll have to eat my words when It's all said and done.

Kudos to United. Chelsea was abysmal though and I really think they felt the pressure in this match. 4 points here we come!

Thanks to United. About time they did us a favour for a change. COYS I'm dreaming of a double. That's 2 defeats in 4 for a team who had only 3 defeats in 28. There are still more twists and turns coming

Typical mourinho team performance that one lucky goal, shut up shop and try hit them on the break. That said though Chelsea looked like the pressure got to them worst I've seen them play all season

Sorry but I think you are seeing things in that statement that really aren't there.

Obviously Conte is happy with his first season at Chelsea and he is right that pressure is part of the titlrace and it is more fun to be in the titlerace than being 10th in the league so for CFC as a club this season has been a massive step up. I find that a totally normal and good reaction from Conte as CFC coach. His focus is about Chelsea and how they preform this season and he is spot on that they are doing much better as a club than last season, that doesn't have to imply dig at Mourinho, not everything in this world revolves around Mourinho.

Herrera MOTM and not even a close contest, which when you consider how good Rashford, Young, Rojo and even Fellaini were, shows how good he was. Genuine 11/10.

I loved Rojo today, brilliant handling of Costa, and sure the summing in Spanish helped to wind up Costa.

The logic behind his narrative that Chelsea are 10th team who find themselves magically in the first spot this season is flawed. Last season was a fluke, over the last decade Chelsea have won a lot of trophies, they're a team of serial winners.

Nothing to do with a miracle, IMO. Agree to disagree!

I thought that the MoM would be closer between Rashford and Herrera today. I personally thought that Rashford just edged out Herrera but that it was very close between them. Both a solid 9 out of 10.

That WAS a shot at Mourinho (he didn't need to refer to their position last season), and not the first that Conte has taken.

I am fine with such though and feel its one of those things that make the game more interesting.

Over the moon with that result. Toughest team we have played in a while, and with our season on the edge, we pulled out such a committed and tactically disciplined performance. More or less every player gave everything and played brilliantly to win that match. Herrera was outdone by Hazard last time round, but today played him off the park. Rashford was outstanding vs Luiz and Cahill, and gave them the run around all game. Rojo, Bailly and Darmian were rock solid at the back despite Chelsea's great talent in attack. Yes we were a little unlucky with the handball, but we have been so unlucky against Chelsea for donkey's years, especially last year that I will gladly take a bit of luck this time around.

As much as we are on a high tonight, Thursday is a massive game and it could easily go against us if we are not totally at it. Our mood would swing again suddenly so we need to put in the hard work to make sure we get past Anderlecht because if we can play like this again then they won't live with us

Possibly, it's 79 points across 38 games, it's nothing special.

In Fergie's last 7 seasons the lowest we got was 80, we even lost the league to City when we got 89 points.

Best performance since Fergies time. Every player knew and did his job. We genuinely looked like we could score every time we attacked, defensively we were rock solid. Herrera, pogba and fellaini all had their best games for us. Rashford had pave, power and purpose. Absolutely brilliant

Good thing I'm free from work till Wednesday cuz of Easter or else I'd be in a bit of a trouble having to go to work with this boner I got today.

They've won the Premier League just the year before that.

How can he not refer to their position last year, if he wants to emphasize the improvement and progress they have had as club this season ?

I think he is just trying to focus on that and rightfully claiming it as an achievement for himself and the team rather than using it as a dig to Mourinho.

Again seeing things that aren't there as far as I'am concerned.

Most depressed I'd been this season when I saw the line up.
Most happy I've been this season at the end of the match.

Excellent performance - every player played very well, Herrera and Rashford brilliant.
Effort, pressing, quick passing and movement , defence so solid, you can't ask much more than that - shows what this team is capable of - and the players must be much more tired than Chelsea's who they made look second best all over the pitch.

Well done everyone - let's finish the season strongly

Edit: just realised I got the score prediction correct as well, as Zlatan would say "I'm super happy"

I was dismissive of the selection before the game.. (like many & I'll bet plenty weren't happy even if they didn't post).. I will maintain that the selection today would not have the quality we need for next season, for example.

However what they did show was the level of application required by Jose. If the players missing today (and the new signings/replacements) can reach the level demonstrated then we can start looking forward to big things.

Now that is logic I find flawed

Could say the same about United in 2013 but sucesscoach was gone and magic was over

There is no such thing as a team of serial winners, obviously Chelsea aren't a #10 team but they were a topclub with some troubles, probably not as deep as the shit we were/are in but nonethelss Conte had his work cut out for him and did a great job regardless if they win the PL title or not. I think he is 100% in his right to refer to their position last year to emphasize the good job he has done with them this year.

Brilliant performance. It's too late to make top 4 for us IMO with the tough calendar but we will win Europa League comfortably if we play at this level.

I agree with Ander. It was not intentional so not handball.

Oh top four you sexy beast, you're so still on. The negativity before the game was absolutely hilarious .

Like how Mou in his post match presser is keeping our muppet juices flowing with some comments about how he envisions to strengthen the team in the summer
