Great win, I personally went for a draw, as that seemed most likely. Still a hard ask to make top 4 but good signs are there for the EL.

Brilliant performance. It's too late to make top 4 for us IMO with the tough calendar but we will win Europa League comfortably if we play at this level.
If we play that way against City, Arsenal and Spurs then they are all winnable. I'm more worried about the likes of Palace and Swansea at home to tell you the truth.

Can't remember the last time i enjoyed a game so much for the 90 minutes. All jokes aside, i'm sure there is nobody here who after seeing the team sheet today didn't think that kind of performance was in that team. Utterly dominant display from the first whistle. Every single player stood out, no passengers whatsoever. If we kick on after that and finish the season strongly, i'll have plenty of optimism for next season.

Best performance in a long time.

Annoying little Conte put in his place.

Luiz made to look average by Rashford

Herrera Mr. United on and off the field.

Jose with a smile on his face.

What a good day.

All those teams you mention play opposite styles to Chelsea, so to be winnable we have to play those games the opposite way.

The atmosphere sounded great today.

Honestly people talk about atmospheres in Germany but that constant chanting doesn't inspire a team as much as an atmosphere like today. So raw and passionate. Shame it can't be as consistent as crowd in other countries. Otherwise it would make a difference to our home form.

Before this match started I expected us to lose or get yet another draw at the very most. Like the Arsenal match last year when you have low expectations and you win against a top team it makes the win feel so much sweeter. Delighted to put a dent in their title aspirations and I'm really proud of the players, they were all brilliant today. I don't buy into all this they were "Weakened" nonsense, Begovic is a very capable understudy for Courtois who has played many matches in the Premier League and probably shouldn't be a number two keeper, like Romero for us. Like Gary Neville said, Alonso is a good left back but he's not top class, sure it really disrupted their formation but it's not like having Hazard or even Costa out injured.

I was just thinking about this: would the team have been just as good if Chelsea had played liked most 'visitors' do this season, basically 'park the bus'? Was the game 'good' because Chelsea also wanted to 'play'? Just a thought. :)

Yes, credit it to them, they kept going for our goal till the end but what else can you expect? They have been miles better than any other team until recently, are within touching distance of winning the league, and people are probably forgetting where they ended up in the table last season so most of their players have a point to prove. And in all probability, they will win the league.

But all that is what makes the result more pleasing. Looking it at from purely United's perspective - it was a marvellous performance by United. I can't talk about any player not putting in a more-than-decent shift. The fight each United player showed was something the fans have been craving for. The absolute single-mindedness that the team, as a collective, will not just roll over and accept the result. And all of it trickled down from the top - the manager.

Like how Mou in his post match presser is keeping our muppet juices flowing with some comments about how he envisions to strengthen the team in the summer

Yeah, especially saying that we need different qualities on the pitch.

I mean with fast forwards to get in behind the lines. All those teams are susceptible to plays running in behind them.

The problem with the two home matches that I mentioned is that the teams will sit in deep and ask us to break them down. Spurs, Arsenal and City will all play with attacking intent especially at home.

hands down the best performance united have put in under Mourinho, hopefully this will be the turning point for him.

I think this shows the importance of pace up front, which we have seen little of this season. To move on, we need to say thanks but bye to Ibrahimovic as for him to pay well, our whole tactical play has to go down to a crawl, which affects the balance of the team. As soon as he came on today & Rashford came off the same thing happened.

I also think it is a bit unfair to mark down De Gea, as what is he supposed to do. When he was needed he did it professionally & looked steady as usual.

It was just like watching...Manchester United, in a big game, all the players up for it, first to every loose ball, challenging for everything, playing as a team and looking dangerous in every attack. Chelsea couldn't handle it, United put them out of their stride and were deserved winners. Herrera, Bailly and Rashford were outstanding, but, to a man, everyone played their part. More of the same please for the rest of the season, the EL and top 4 will be a formality if United continue in the vein they showed today.

Great performances all round. A lot of players that have been heavily criticised showing they deserve to be at the club. Delighted for them.

Exactly. Whether you were happy with the line up or not, no one saw that performance coming.

Just about every United commentator I've seen didn't like that line up. Howson above, someone who is always positive about club affairs, hated the line up.

Makes me laugh at all the "you should be ashamed", "state of that" posts in this thread regarding the line up comments.

What does he want he want from Shaw, Martial,Mhiki? That. It's about working your ass off for the team.

But is that realistic to expect from every player and are you going to get that from every player by using the same methods ?

I remember Hazard being criticised by Mourinho often for not putting in enough work whilst he was Chelsea coach. But under Conte Hazard seems to be a different player who does his work on the pitch but is also allowed to play higher up and effect the game with his quality which has won Chelsea numerous games. It is the same player but Conte just found some buttons to push which Mourinho didn't or he created a role in the team that works much better for the players and hence his motivation and performances are increased.

Martial, Shaw, Mkhitaryan are quality players, Mourinho must find a way to let them shine in the team because else he will be waisting alot of good talent.

There is no such thing as a lazy player but Mourinho needs to find a way that Martial etc want to play for him like that. If they hate his guts for the way he talks about them or treats them then they will never play like he would like them to play.

So chuffed about this win. I refused to listen to it in the car (driving Aberdeen - Glasgow) as they never win when I listen, I went by the vibrations in my pocket and my other half retrieving it and telling me what the BBC Sport notification said. Needless to say she got a face-full of joyous screeches.

Hopefully this inspires the lads to kick on for the rest of the season and finish on a high.

They did not but he had that splendid interception outside the 16 yard box.
Tbf, as a Chelsea fan, hats off to you today. Hungrier for every loose ball. Rashford is a talent worth persevering worth. Jury's out on Lingard still, but he's steady.

Where do I start with us? Nah, can't be arsed to even try to explain that shambles. Anyway, best of luck with the top four adventure. As long as you keep it a scouse

Extremely happy - we mustn't overexaggerate this performance though. We need this kind of level consistently.

Top class performance. Moved the ball around brilliantly and the pace and willingness to close down Chelsea at the top of the pitch set the tone. A defining moment for Mourinho and one that I think really stamps his mark on United. Under Fergie we'd perhaps have chased a 3 or 4 nil score line but equally we'd perhaps have conceded and made for a nervous finish. We looked in complete control and closed the game out ŵith ease.

YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!

Fantastic team performance. Herrera future captain?

Watching MoTD and enjoying it! Happy Days!

Shocking refereeing today, yes we caught a break for the Herrera ball-to-hand, but was the ref really signalling to De Gea to not waste time in 1st half?!!! Maybe the refs could think about doing that to teams visiting Old Trafford!! No sign of that for Everton, West Brom etc. time wasting at OT. Fellaini wrestled & rugby tackled = Fellaini foul.

Now that is logic I find flawed

Could say the same about United in 2013 but sucesscoach was gone and magic was over

There is no such thing as a team of serial winners, obviously Chelsea aren't a #10 team but they were a topclub with some troubles, probably not as deep as the shit we were/are in but nonethelss Conte had his work cut out for him and did a great job regardless if they win the PL title or not. I think he is 100% in his right to refer to their position last year to emphasize the good job he has done with them this year.

Chelsea has prime outfield players such as Costa and Hazard around, United hadn't a playmaker with the class of Hazard in the team and Van Persie was older than Costa when Fergie decided to call it a day. What i'm trying to say is that Chelsea had more quality and potential around compared to United back in 2013.

Apart from that i think we just had a misunderstanding. I do think that Conte deserves credit for what he's done so far, but i don't buy the narrative that Chelsea were a mid table team before he took over the reigns. We already seem to have an agreement on this issue, so all good, i guess. :)
