PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 Bournemouth

Post-match discussion

This game got completely away from the ref, though it was a hard job for him. I thought it was weird how we were playing as if we were in overtime and needing a goal even with half an hour on the clock. It seemed more symptomatic of how Jose approached things earlier in the season.

2nd half was really poor, we lost the plot in the last half hour which was frustrating because much of the first half was good. I still don't know what our style of play is meant to be though, it sort of feels like Mourinho just tells the front 6 "you're all on 300 grand a week, you don't need to be told what to do, just fecking go and do it". I think his main improvement to our attacking play has been giving some of the players more freedom than Van Gaal did (as well as buying a couple of quality players), rather than their seeming to be a pattern of attacking play that he's coached a la Guardiola or even Klopp (at times).

Probably because he's our only scorer.
Then it's time to show faith in other players. Play Rashford up front when Zlatan is having those days. It was clear as day from the first few mins that Zlatan wouldn't be able to hit a barn door with a banjo today yet Mou does not have the guts to gamble. Blindly putting on average midfielders and attackers is not great brave move, it is foolish and it has happened far too often this season

We panicked in that second half from after the penalty miss. Should have kept getting it wide and stretching them.

Played superbly in the First half and should have been out of sight. The red didnt help us as bournemouth defended with 10 men. Should have at least scored from the pen and should have had one more pen and a second red for bournemouth. The ref was shit.

Hull, Stoke, Burnley and now Bournemouth have all taken something from games at Old Trafford.

You don't deserve to be top 4 with stats like that.

The added time in both the first and second half was a joke. 3 mins added in time in the 1st half!!

Been quite a few other games where his and pig as poor finishing have cost us points.
Absolutely. I don't want to throw a single player under the bus. However, I am very nervous, simply because this appears to be so similar to the start of Ibra's barren spell earlier in the season. That spell was what killed our season because we had a flurry of draws. While, Ibra is to blame for these things it doesn't help that we never replace him with someone else. We have never evoked the backup plan, option b, any alternative. I am hoping that when we go in to the next season, or even starting from now, we do react to futile individual performances and make the changes.

Zlatan was terrible in the first half, and missed a penalty in the second. But the biggest problem in this game was the constant desperation plays of the last 30 minutes. No intelligent buildup, just forcing low percentage passes. Pogba can't deal with the stress obviously, this isn't the first time he's played like this. The more he fails the harder he tries to repair it by trying impossible plays. Wish Zlatan would had dropped down to direct the plays since no one else could.

Team selection should never matter at a home game to a 10 men Bournemouth. Blaming it is simply distracting. Any United team should be able to deal with that lot today.

Of course it matters, that Bournemouth side can't cope with pressing, pace or players who run a team them we made it much easier for them. This Utd squad still has way too many players who shouldn't be here and i don't expect the to deal with sides like that because they have show time and time again they cant.

Next matches at least a chance to give Rashford/Martial a run up top.

I swear sometimes we are better off with pace and unpredictability upfront. Today was woeful finishing coupled with lethargic movement in the last third. When Ibra is having a bad game we pretty much dont score. Its not a balanced attack at all.

Reminds me of RVN days. He would score loads but we didnt win feck all. Only until after he left and then our team and attack was so fluid and quick.

We should have been 3-0 up by 20 minutes, yet we end 1-1 after leading a man on the pitch for 45 minutes. I can't for the life of me imagine how so called professionals can feck up so badly. Well done Boruc, you had an amazing game, now go back to conceding through whooping blunders next game week onwards. A team that let Everton put 6 past them holds on to 1-1 with 10 men.

I wish referee sent off Zlatan and Mings, atleast we'd have had another penalty/fk taker than him.

Piss off you bunch of warts.

Also Rooney can go do one. Wage thief and he knows it full well.

We should let him rot in fecking reserves because that's what he deserves.

This is the most disappointing result for me. We have the ability to move into 4th and bottle it again. Now we are stuck in 6th. We don't play again in the league for two weeks. Fortunately against middlesbrough and I'm hoping Miki is back for that.

How did we not win that?

Probably because he's our only scorer.

Yeah but when he's having a shit day and it's this obvious, maybe he should not be taking all free kicks and penatlies? Or is that in his contract too.

We say "When is Ibra's having an off day we don't score", but that's to be expected when we play with 1 striker and he's the focus of our entire attack, isn't it?

I'm not absolving the midfield from this game, they were poor too. Second half we hardly created chances or had any tempo. Pogba and Carrick (mostly the former) gave the ball away soooo many times and slowed the game too much.

Extremely poor management frim Mourinho. He needs to take a step back and re evaluate everything. Schweinstiger should be ahedad of both Fellaini and Pogba, With a midfield of Herrera-Carrick and Mata as No.10

Are you having a laugh? Our soon to be 30 goal a season striker missed a penalty, our world record signing hit an air kick 5 yards from goal and you don't think we created enough chances to beat them? Watch the game again
 Some people...

Emile Heskey would've had a hatrick with those chances.
That certainly wasn't a £90M lesson in composure from pogba.

No wonder I was nervous about this match. We just have a tendency to bottle it when our rivals are playing each other. We ain't getting top four so better hope for a miracle in the Europa league.
Don't care about the results of the other games this weekend as it doesn't matter after this shit performance.

Woeful finishing, last ditch defending and another keeper having their best game of the year at Old Trafford. End of the day we should have been out of sight early doors and we paid the price. I really hope we upgrade our centre backs in the summer tho!

Our finishing...
Our lackadaisical passing...
Our corners...
Our finishing...

Oh, and did I mention our finishing?

I genuinely dread to think of the levels Jose is going to stoop to in his post match interviews to deflect from that performance :(.

How do you play so bad at home? especially with the OT crowd cheering you on... Zlatan was very lucky to be on the pitch. He played like crap. His touches were poor. He missed a penalty and that free kick? What was that all about? Rooney was average. We missed Mkhitaryan's spark today. Why was Jones even starting this game? He gave away a penalty and he was caught out of position so many times. How can we deserve to be in the top 4 when we play like this? This draw pretty much sums up our entire season. Very Very BAD Performance. This is just unacceptable. We can't play even against 10 men and we can't even score a penalty when the chance was offered to us on a golden plate. I'm so pissed off right now.

We still need about 5 or 6 new players in the sumer. This shower of shite deserve sixth.
What did Fellaini, Rashford or Lingard achieve after coming on? What did Rooney do?
Jones? And the less said about Zlatan and Pogba the better. Once again we blow a top 4 place, so frustrating.

Take a look at who played today; Fellaini, Lingard and Rooney are all as average as they come and shouldn't be getting anywhere near our team. Rashford isn't much better half the time either to be honest.

We miss Mkhitaryan badly.

With Rooney and Ibra up top we need 40 chances to score.

It depends what week you read the café on.
When Ibra scores, it's wow, what a record, still got it.
When he doesn't, it's he needs 1000s chances to score.

I fear the truth is nearer to the second option, having had 5 drives home from OT where he's misses a fair few.
Stoke at home was my personal worst one. He set the tone in min 1 with a poor miss, and just carried it on.

Resorted back to hoof ball, players and Mourinho are clueless to see we're not winning anything in the air but hey let's carry on doing it anyway. Feels like a loss, worse than the 0-0 vs Burnley

People picking out individuals as if they were dragging a good team performance down. Who played well today?

Not just the best of a bad bunch, who actually played well? Carrick at a borderline neck breaking stretch.

Actual conclusions from game...
Rooney is done. We've known it for a while. He stifles games and we can't regain energy after subbing him. At most he should be a sub to see out games that have been won.

Carrick is essential, but can't do it for 90 mins, we need a plan B.

Zlatan blows hot and cold. Overall contribution can't be disputed, but when he is off form he kills our only outlet. We need a Plan B, which links to Rooney as well. I.e. we need another top striker or a secondary formation.

Jones always has potential to be a liability. He lacks composure. It needs to be addressed.

That will do!
