Manchester United 1:1 Bournemouth

Post-match discussion

People are really frustrated with Zlatan, and rightly so, but I thought Pogba did worse. Not only did he miss his chances like Zlatan, but he was also responsible for losing possession time after time with inaccurate passes and unnecessary long balls. A lot of the wasted time towards the end of the match is down to him. I've noticed that he's tried to do too much rather than play smart football.

I honestly dont understand why we just dont focus on shooting and buildup practice.

That should be the only training these players go through for the rest of the season.

The miskicks by Pogba at the end were comical. I cant believe how poor these players are in front of goal. More interested in hollywood passes, holding the ball and dribbling. None of them can finish when it counts the most.

To recite RAWK: Think I'm gonna climb in the bath, lie down, prop my arse up and relax. Then piss in my own eyes.

Zlatan should have been taken off when we made the subs. No way should he have been taking that penalty with all he'd done in the game.

Ref was woeful.
I would have taken Zlatan off at half time tbh. Result not his day. But he never ever gets subbed

We were at a stroll, creating and squandering chances in the first half. But they made us pay for not putting them away when we had the chance.

I don't understand replacing Carrick with Fellaini. Carrick passes forward, Fellaini does not. Unless Fellaini is going to get in the box, there's no point in him being out there.

Lingard didn't work well as a left back either. Basically, Mourinho lacked impact subs at the end.

Our team doesn't know how to break down opponents which is why we have had so many draws in matches we "should have won". Unfortunately these things take time, experience and probably some added quality in the summer.

We aren't making top 4. Someone like Roma will twat us with that defense so Europa is out of the question. Chelsea will pull us apart on Monday and top 4 is all but gone. May seem kneejerk but this team lacks bottle when the screws are turned.
What's wrong with our defense?
It's our attack which has the problem.

Zlatan was terrible in the first half, and missed a penalty in the second. But the biggest problem in this game was the constant desperation plays of the last 30 minutes. No intelligent buildup, just forcing low percentage passes. Pogba can't deal with the stress obviously, this isn't the first time he's played like this. The more he fails the harder he tries to repair it by trying impossible plays. Wish Zlatan would had dropped down to direct the plays since no one else could.
Completely agree. The team doesn't have the mentality to keep their heads cool when things don't go their way.

Boruc speaks surprisingly good English. Tyrone Mings is not a bad looking dude actually.

Only one thing to say. 6th. It's where we belong. We perform like this every time we have a chance to make ground on the teams above us.

The '6th' has wound me up on YouTube comments for the last few months but it's where we are.
If Jose thinks three players will sort this out he is mistaken. At least Luke is on the way back into the side. We need at least two CB's. Another forward, another wide man for the right with real quality, another midfielder to replace Carrick and another to rotate with Herrera. I thought this was the game to rest Ander, my god it wasn't. Another RB to rotate with Tony V. The list goes on.

starting Rooney was a mistake, can't fault Jose for anything else, Carrick was on a yellow and wasn't effective at all i have no issues with his sub. I thought we might have seen some changes at half-time but i guess Jose didn't want to ruin players confidence.

Very bad day and very damaging result.

Same old story. Bored of these draws and our profligacy in front of goal.

Our finishing...
Our lackadaisical passing...
Our corners...
Our finishing...

Oh, and did I mention our finishing?

Oh our corners... we had more than 15 of them and not one meaningful.. Hate it

Actual conclusions from game...
Rooney is done. We've known it for a while. He stifles games and we can't regain energy after subbing him. At most he should be a sub to see out games that have been won.

Carrick is essential, but can't do it for 90 mins, we need a plan B.

Zlatan blows hot and cold. Overall contribution can't be disputed, but when he is off form he kills our only outlet. We need a Plan B, which links to Rooney as well. I.e. we need another top striker or a secondary formation.

Jones always has potential to be a liability. He lacks composure. It needs to be addressed.

That will do!

I swear that if Mkhitaryan played it would have been a different story.

He was the key acquisition in the summer and the difference maker. No surprise ever since he got injured we havent played well. Our buildup and finishing in the last third suffers without Mkhi carrying and creating for us.

Stop blaming Mourinho, stop blaming the press, stop blaming the atmosphere, stop blaming the ref.

The blame lies solely on the players today, there are no two ways about it. That was bloody dreadful and we're reliant on Mkhi, a player who wasn't even a regular until a few months ago. Absolute disgrace of a performance today, Jose should do whatever he wants to this team because God damn it that was dreadful.

All this against 10 men. 10. These guys have a terrible defence.

Of course it matters, that Bournemouth side can't cope with pressing, pace or players who run a team them we made it much easier for them. This Utd squad still has way too many players who shouldn't be here and i don't expect the to deal with sides like that because they have show time and time again they cant.
This side is individually speaking cannot be compared to Bournemouth's. Any team we fielded today should have been able to deal with them. It's not a coincidence that we did the same to Burnley, Stoke, West Ham, Hull and goodness knows who else. We did not pick the wrong side on each of these games, surely you don't believe that? When something happens that often and this consistently, the problem is deeper a couple of wrong picks. My point is that it matters of course, but too little for it to be close to influential enough.

I thought Bournemouth's behaviour was absolutely disgraceful. So much time-wasting and so much feigning. I have lost all respect for them now.

This result will leave a sour taste in the mouth for some time.
Not just this result. A string of these to be honest when we will reflect the end of the season ending in 6th behind fecking Liverpool.

2nd half was always going to be tough. They were always going to park it and waste all the time in the world. Everyone in a blue shirt walking away from the ball at throw ins, free kicks and goal kicks. How on earth was only 5 minutes added on. Mings and Arter were down for more than 5 minutes between them. Boruc took 30-40 seconds every goal kick. You could have played another 45 minutes for all their time wasting. Tyler banged on about it being heroic. feck that. That's not football. Hard to believe you're still allowed to play like that.

The penalty was the opportunity, and it was a shit pen. I don't know why Zlatan is deemed as the dead ball king. His free kicks are shite and his penalty was poor too. He just blasts his free kicks at the wall and hope it goes through. Should have twatted the penalty into the top corner like King did. That's how you take a penalty. Keeper can go the right way and he's still never saving it.

We just panicked and hoofed it long. We did everything they would have wanted us to. Everytime we had the ball in good areas, we just swiped at it wildly. Zero composure.

And like always, we have an opportunity to move up from 6th, and every time we piss it up the wall.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call an abhorrent, abject performance.

Home, against a team with a horrendous record of conceding goals. With a week of rest.

Not a single player can come out of that feeling proud of their performance.

DEF - Jones and Rojo were like a pantomime. Why do we not have a single CB with a brain? Jones was terrible today, Rojo only slightly better.

Pogba - absolutely terrible. Zlatan had an off-day, and we'd better hope it was a blip coz nobody else is stepping up and scoring. I knew he was gonna miss that penalty, it was written in the stars.

I'm livid. Weekend ruined.

As far as I'm concerned, top 4 is gone - we aren't getting it and we do not deserve it. We are 6th for a reason, we are a top 6 team this season. Game over.

I am so p***ed off with this. It was a must win game with the chance to finally break into the top 4. We knew Bournemouth would come to frustrate us and of course that Boruc would play out of his skin. Why do we take our foot off the gas as soon as we score? Jones is a liability. If he's not injured he's flapping in defence. Pogba was poor today and generally after we conceded the penalty we ran out of ideas. We've got to learn to break down teams who put everyone behind the ball.

We can forget top 4 now. Only hope of Champions League next season is winning the Europa League.

Rant over but weekend ruined.

Desparate tactics by Bournemouth. I suppose we should credit them for a result, but I won't. We were clearly the superior side. To drop points today is simply gutting, cynical football from Bournemouth and I won't shed a tear if they go down now. Shame, considering they played proper football last season.

Are you having a laugh? Our soon to be 30 goal a season striker missed a penalty, our world record signing hit an air kick 5 yards from goal and you don't think we created enough chances to beat them? Watch the game again

The penalty wasn't exactly down to sharp creative play, and neither was the air kick. We pumped the ball into their box the whole second half and tried to live off the scraps. The pen was more their defender being an idiot than anything else, Pogba's chance was maybe the only one, and we got it from a knock down.
Do you honestly believe we were creative enough?

Pogba has been shite for ages now. At one point over Christmas he was playing really well. Seems to be so inconsistent. There is no standard Pogba, he ether does an amazing shot or pass or literally can barely make contact with the ball. Unfortunately at the moment he is doing the latter much more often. I known he is very young but you have to worry whether that price tag is harming his mentality.

Let's go through that team today, and who will / should be here next season.

Dave - A no brainer.

Valencia - A good option for rotating.

Jones - Not United quality, bin.

Rojo - A good option for rotating.

Shaw - First choice if he plays as he did in the first half.

Carrick - Needs to be replaced, but needs to stick around.

Mata - Stays.

Rooney - feck Off.

Martial - Stays.

Ibra - Needs to be replaced, but great to have around.

I still don't get all that panic in the 2nd. All half long we were acting like its 5 minutes till the end and keep hoofing the ball to the box instead of playing football which we did in the 1st and we played some nice stuff. We should have just kept playing and eventually we would score. Maybe.

Zlatan can't save the day when he's having a bad day himself. The problem is that he keeps needing to, there's just not enough fluency to break down a defence in general, and certainly not without Zlatan's passing and lay offs. Not even against 10. Ref was very poor, but it's for Bournemouth to complain.

Why didnt Herrera play, seriously? He us our most important player IMO and the only true midfielder we've got. Is he injured?

I feel there was only 15 minutes of actual play in the 2nd half. The ref should have added 15 minutes instead of 5. Im not even kidding.

I have been a tee totaler all my life but after watching that performance I think the only way I can carry on is to spend rest of my life drunk. I honestly cannot believe how terrible we were today. Bournemouth will get hammered in their next few games as well. Poor poor management from Jose as well.

What's wrong with our defense?
It's our attack which has the problem.
They were one on one with our CBs nowhere in sight a couple of times. Soton showed up our defense too. Frankly I am absolutely simmering now. Cannot believe we have fecked up chance after chance to get up thr table.

I can't remember where I've felt as bad as this after a game. Pogba, Jones and Zlatan absolutely shocking.
Martial always starts well but drops off. Mata and Valencia surprisingly anonymous in the second half.
I have to question the subs. Take off Carrick and play Fellaini in the same position? So you take the distribution away but won't use the few qualities of Fellaini?
Take off Shaw to play Lingard in the same position? Shocking and the team lost all shape.
Rashford for Rooney was understandable, but Rashford has to learn to combine a pass to his running with the ball, he just seems to run until he runs out of ground.

Absolutely no composure when we need the goal, little things start to count. Keep giving away throw ins, premature hail marys, no shape to the team. Just a shocking performance when we really needed on.

Oh our corners... we had more than 15 of them and not one meaningful.. Hate it
Have we had consistently good corners at any point in the last 5 years? 4 different managers and yet same old shit. It's baffling.

People picking out individuals as if they were dragging a good team performance down. Who played well today?

Not just the best of a bad bunch, who actually played well? Carrick at a borderline neck breaking stretch.
Rojo played well.

Got a goal, did his job in defence

Cant ask for much more

Martial is better on the wing and Rashford is poor more often than not.

Martial and Rashford upfront would yield better results in front of goal than today. We scored via a fecking lucky centreback deflection.

Its time to add more pace, fluidity and unpredictability in the attack. Getting Mhkitaryan back will also make a huge difference too.
