Manchester United 1:1 Arsenal

Post-match discussion

Very pleasantly surprised, we should have won it, we created all the good chances, Chido instead of Hoijlund and we probably would have won

1. I'll happily take 1 point at this stage.
2. It curbs my enthousiasm that Amorim quite obviously set us up to sit back and try getting something on the counter. Which is kind of the thing he said he couldn't do here upon signing. Either he is adjusting his approach, which imo is wrong, especially since we're already at 15th position, but practically safe from relegation. Or the players themselves are reverting to this despite instructions otherwise, which would probably be even more damning.
3. Happy to see Højlund getting to chances after getting on, but still nowhere near scoring. Weird not seeing Chido Obi getting minutes this game, considering he's not eligible on thursday....

1st half was terrible and 2nd half was excellent. Should have won. So close.

Arsenal were actually so poor. Hard to see them doing anything rest of season.

Could have won it with our chances but Raya is a top class keeper.

We defended very well, Heaven looks very promising. Really composed and calm on the ball.

Awful first half with a fantastic goal. Much better second half, and honestly we should have would. We had the number and quality of chances to do it.

Heaven impressed me when he came on, he seemed very up for it and involved. Obviously playing vs his previous side was a part of it. Hopefully nothing serious for Yoro.

Could have won that. And to think there was some clown on the radio talking about how this could be Arsenal's chance to avenge the 8-2. It gives me great pleasure to think that Arteta is probably seething at this result.

Surprising game. How did we not lose, how did we not win is the correct sentiment!

Sales/Exits that MUST happen in summer (if it didn't cause big losses to hit the P&L/book value):

Hojlund - 25mil to Italy with big bonuses built in.
Zirkzee - 17mil and ditto.
Onana - 20mil and ditto.
Garnacho - 45mil.
Rashford - 50mil.
Antony - 20mil.
Casemiro - Off to the desert.
Shaw - Time to train as a pundit.
Mount - 10mil back to Derby.
Eriksen - off to Spain to become the next Modric.

If it was doable that is well in excess of 150million out, with nigh on 100m home grown PSR profit.
Absolute chunks of millions back in wages.
Then time to buy a ton more Heaven esq signings and build from there.

I'm only really interested from a club financial health perspective now. Let's fix that first. We've utterly consolidated the previous years of uselessness to the point where we are the new Villa.

If we can do that in the summer then we can judge the progress in a year. If we don't do that, then it's more of the same. Rangnick was right. Open heart surgery must take place.

So much better than I feared and overall we should have won it. the CBs were faultless and Heaven didn't look out of place at all - he and Collyer need to be starting very soon if not now.

Same old problems, I just feel so sorry for Rasmus, he really can't buy a goal right now. If he could get one in midweek, I think he could score a few in closing weeks of season. He makes better runs than Zirkzee but neither is a marksman. I still wonder if Garno should start at no.9.

Bruno remains a talisman but he and Eriksen were at fault for not closing Rice down for the arsenal goal.

Onana simply isn't good enough and has to be replaced

A player can be man of the match without a goal. I hope people know this. Maz was easily our best player. I don't know if our fans watch games or just look at highlites or Stat sheets.
It was a toss up between Bruno and Maz and I voted for Maz as I thought he was excellent. Even without the goal Bruno played very well though.

We've not been that bad the last 4 or 5 games.

Honestly think if we had a competent keeper and a half decent striker up front we'd have won the last 4 or 5 games in a row and things would be looking rosier.

I think you'll find they'll cash in on Mainoo

Swap the goalies and we win comfortably. Put any decent 9 instead of Hojlund and we still pull it off.

The anchor just winding up the various pundits isn't he?

First ribbing Roy Keane on Bruno and then Paul Merson on whether expectations were higher after the 7 goals.

We should have won based on 2nd half performance. Draw was a fair result, Raya is man of the match, Dalot is the opposite. Mazrouai was fantastic as WB with his supporting to Garnacho. Once Dorgu is back, I don't want to see Dalot starting a game.Hoijund is simply useless. Even chances are given to him on a plate, he still amazes me with not having a shot on target. How can he be a Danish international??? Is he is best they can offer? One of worst striker wearing United jersey.

He is really the worst striker in PL. Atalanta hasn’t stopped laughing.

Denmark has Mika Biereth, Jonas Wind, Kasper Dolberg and Yusuf Poulsen. I would start everyone off them before Højlund.

The Højlund transfer might win the worst transfer off all time…

A lot of positives from today - a rarity for the past 6 months.

Even just not folding and losing the game after conceding is a big plus

That first half was everything most of us expected, except for Bruno's fantastic goal. Second half though they continued having similar % of possession but we had better chances - Mazraoui, Zirkzee, Hojlund, Bruno. Their best chance was Onana's save (after which Martinelli missed that sitter but was offside).

Raya Man of the Match. Our best player? Probably Bruno as his goal is what gave us a point in the end.
Maz had a close to flawless game.

Anyone feels we are slowly beginning but surely turning into a team which Amorim is trying to build here? The players are definitely buying into his ideas it seem

How has Declan Rice got man of the match? Other than the goal, i thought he was quiet

Im confident that the whole “how many yards for that free kick” sh*te would not be discussed if any other team scored that goal. Also , it will be quoted for the next 12 months anytime United get mugged by officials

Fantastic second half. Feel robbed of watching United beat Arsenal, in an Arsenal pub.

Strikers are a bit shit. Heaven looks the tits, needs a run to show it isn’t because he’s trained for hours against the Arsenal first team.

Selling Zirkzee and Hojlund at those prices would mean a loss in regards to PSR, we can't afford that.

We'd need around 40 mill for Hojlund just to break even and we'd need around 27 for Zirkzee. Worryingly, we need around 30 for Antony and all this just to break even.

I'll take that. I felt we were going to be ok, all game. Arsenal look toothless... Liverpool are miles ahead of them. Mazraoui played well, I like him, he seems like he has a more progressive, clearer attitude.. Garnacho worked well. Collyer did well, made a difference when he came on, and the youngster, Heaven just needs more games to keep getting better. Zirkzee seems a little lost, and he needs to adapt to that role, be stronger, grow into leading the line. Be responsible.

2. With Eriksen and Casemiro out there, how do you think we would have fared with a high press?

I'll reserve judgement till I see us against lesser teams. This team has played well against just about every big team since Amorim came in, but has then proceeded to drop stinkers against other teams

I don't think we changed anything. Just watch us against big teams and this is the norm.

A really good point for the team, in a game that we probably should have won against a very good Arsenal team. We should be winning our home games but in the current context, there is little reason to let tonight be a negative one. We didn’t have as good of a team as Arsenal so we played defensively, they played some nice stuff with possession but lacked much cutting edge and only scored from a great strike. Despite lack of the ball we probably created the most chances and should have scored a second if not for their superb goalkeeper.

Need to wait on Yoro, looked like a knock and might be out vs Sociedad. But Heaven was very good when called upon, just needs some more experience:
