Manchester United 1:1 Arsenal

Post-match discussion

i didn't see this being discussed but i thought Rojo missed a good chance with Cech almost froze and didn't have much time to react to the header.

Absolutely. The signs of improvement are clearly there. We were excellent today.

The results are not matching the performances - that is the main problem. If you look at results alone, we're doing worse than when LVG was around, when the results were better than the performances, with DDG papering over the cracks. We look much more solid now.

Often happens with a team finding its feet under a new manager. Like I said, the signs of progress are obvious. We just need some momentum and a break from all this bad fecking luck. It will come though. I'm a lot more confident about that now then I was two and a half hours ago.

Jose on the ref: "I don't want to speak about it. I have a very good feeling with Andre Mariner. He is the kind of referee who if he make mistakes against my team there is no intention. He doesn't want to be the star of the game, he is a good referee. I don't want to say if it is a mistake or not, I know because I saw the video, but I don't want to say because he is a good referee."

Another ban incoming...
For saying that he is a good ref?

Don't really get how you were unlucky. You created little, and then chose to sit back on a 1-0 after dominating possession for the previous 30 minutes.

Another WUM.

I saw from about 30 minutes onwards. Maybe I missed a load of chances in that first thirty mins but the half time analysis didn't seem to suggest it. I'll leave it now, just disagree with the idea that you were unlucky, when I saw very few opportunities for United to score.

We were getting to your box with ease. Had a more than decent penalty shout.
Forced a few very good saves.

We made you look like a championship team who resorted to systematic fouling with impunity from a weak referee.

Luck is a funny concept. I don't know if we were unlucky. What's clear is we looked by a distance the better team and suggests our league position doesn't reflect our true quality. And we can hopefully reel a poor Arsenal team in.

Shades of Klopp in his first months at Liverpool for me.

Could've should've would've, we are not good enough yet. As soon i seen Giroud coming on i new they would score, only our self's to blame for the two points lost.

I really don't understand the talk of 'how good we were, just one of those days'. Same shit again, same thing as with Stoke and Burnley? it was. It's really not a 'very good match' if we manage to score just one goal and then get sucker punched, dropping two points. It's not 'just one of those days' either as those to be constantly happening for us.

We're all flashy shit with no proper end product, nobody gives points for good style and fancy passing.

But you created absofekinlutely nothing, nothing. We had a penalty that ref robbed us of, Ramsay should have been long sent off and ref giving 2 "advantage" plays 20 meters from your goal?

Got screwed by the ref, yet again. It was a solid performance tactically, Arsenal had one chance and scored from it. Martial had yet another stinker, and we didn't create enough (did Rashford get even one single chance?). I think this is a really crucial point of the season as the players yet again will feel cheated imo, and that's even harder than a loss as it will feel like no matter what they do they won't get a result. Did Pogba even play?

I feel very disappointed. Time for some serious drinking.

Play well but it was an absolute must win and our league season is over in November.

For saying that he is a good ref?

Here's what he said about Anthony Taylor, before he got banned:

"I think Mr Taylor is a very good referee, but I think somebody with intention is putting such a pressure on him that I feel it will be difficult for him to have a very good performance."

Now if the FA want to be consistent...

Jeez with some comments blaming Rooney and Rashford yet not blaming ref because today it was obviously his fault.

What was Rooney supposed to do? He was very good since he came on holding the ball, making runs and doing everything he could.

Rashford isn't a winger and he spent entire game running do you expect him to chase down Chamberlain who's fresh off the bench?

He isn't a winger so he had no instinct to close down his right side and force him to go inside where Pogba and Blind were waiting which was the move that RB and RW would make, but Rashford isn't any of those.

We were great today and our performance was spot on, even at that goal it looked to me that Jones took a hit from the back and was unable jump in time.

Oh god please if he was the perfect referee he would have also send off Darmian with a red card. Even if we had scored that penalty then we would probably have lost this game.

Also the ref has nothing to do with us not winning any top games this season, we just aren't very good and the table shows this

Our season is likley over and it is Mourinho's fault not the referee

If Fa bans for that they're morons.

I think today proved the point that Martial (in particular) and Rashford are nowhere near ready to lead the line. We lacked a cutting edge yet again but do look more balanced with this midfield. I also think Rooney looked reasonably thratening even if he has lost much of his pace. No idea why Darmian started ahead of Shaw. We need another top-class finisher and possibly a real winger. Jones had a better game than I feared but it was no surprise at all that Giroud scored Moment he came on I was worried

We are getting better since Louis left. Not sure if we win any trophy this season, but we will finish above Le Arse. Lady luck will turn her face to us and we will start winning the games which we are dominating. In Jose I trust.

Its not bad luck. Last time Arsenal fielded a team this poor, we beat them 8-2

Mourinho is a defensive coach, the team strives on hard work, not expression. This should have been a 3-0 game.

No he wouldnt, if he did his job properly, he wouldve seen that Walcott dived for Darmian's first booking, so it wasnt even an offence. The ref was atrocious, no two ways about it.

Darmian should have been sent off for what? and that stuff about us losing even if we scored a pen is a bit ridiculous.

More points dropped. feck off Rashford, you had one job and you couldn't prevent the cross.

If Mou wanted to impress me at the end he would have brought on Young for Rash. That would have been the best way to help shut them down. Kid had done a lot of running and was having to cover Ox fresh off the bench. Mou is starting to get the initial team selection right but his in game management looks stale. They old adage is that you make your own luck but Christ we've been karmic'ly unlucky and it looks like we are going to have to walk through fire to get back to the promised land.

Just hope the lads keep fighting and never give up this season, especially the young guys. I want us to fight fight fight and take down some big teams and put in some great performances irrespective of results. Best I can hope for at the moment because results refuse to stabilize.

Exactly, Huge chance, almost free header and he almost headed it sideways. Terrible effort!! We haven't been putting those type of chances away like we used to for years now! It was a cruel twist of fate that Giroux scored on a superb header almost to show us how its done.

But you created absofekinlutely nothing, nothing. We had a penalty that ref robbed us of, Ramsay should have been long sent off and ref giving 2 "advantage" plays 20 meters from your goal?

In all fairness they had the best chance of the game off that corner in the first half.

To the ones posting positive posts: keep it up, and thank you for sharing your (positive) thoughts in a sea of negativity. Feels good reading that some of us think we have made progress under Mourinho.

You would call our game today as hard work? also that team which lost 8:2 was a lot worse.

Sickening draw with some really positive performances but also highlights some deep flaws we have within the side.

Herrera for me is becoming the best CM in the EPL. Against an accomplished possession side he was outdoing them completely and running the game.

Pogba wasn't great but he looks comfortable and dangerous which is really good considering he is nowhere near full fitness and what he can become next season. He was bullying Arsenal.

Valencia and Mata were excellent as was Rojo.

Issues for me is that mentally we are a flaky team and I don't think we have enough winners in the side ... Martial doesn't strike me as a win at all costs sort of player at the moment. He is lacking drive an determination and I hope he snaps out of it by the end of the season or Jose will lose his shit. None of our CBs seem to have that Terry style leadership or winning mentality either apart from Bailly and our full backs seem of a similar ilk.

From 1-23 we need guys who are desperate to win football matches and right now I don't feel that. Performances have definitely progressed and that has to be stressed.. We're not getting points on the board but feck me we look like we are a good side again and a threat against any opposition. Tactically we look solid albeit use of substitutions and wasting one on Rooney all the time is pissing me off big time and hampering us.

He's useful for 10 minute bursts but any longer and he becomes a liability.

Main problem is the mentality .. We need to get rid of the waster and the egos and focus on the guys who want wins and trophies.

Not a WUM, look at my previous posts. I care a lot about United, so it's not fun, to see us so far from our best.

You're posts make no sense though.

You're opinion is so far detached from reality I'm unsure what you're actually watching.

Agree with all of this.

Shit post. Cech made a few good saves - one from Mata and Martial. Rojo should have scored and we should have had a penalty.

We were camped in your half for atleast 25 minutes from 45-70.

They were shite and there for the taking. All well and good playing well but we aren't scoring anywhere near enough. Martial and Rashford are offering nothing at the moment. Rashford in particular needs taking out of the team.

Keep hearing "lots of positives", is that 2 wins in 9? Feck off.

Generally, Marcus rashford has gone very lazy. probably, his head is swollen and his work ethnics has deteriorated.
Time to drop him and made him work harder.

He was lazy during that Ox moment but surely he was the one guy who was driving every attack we had?

I honestly don't understand the criticism he is getting.

Why da hell would he send Darmian off when that tackle on Walcott when he already had a yellow was his first tackle after yellow and he barely even touched him.

Show me the part where i said that ref was to blame for our previous games.
