PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 Arsenal

Post-match discussion

Sat, 19 November 2016

If Arsenal hadn't pinched that goal with their only shot of the half, we would all be saying how well we played and what a great all round team performance it was. That one moment at the end doesn't change how good we were.

I give up with this lot. I really do.

We were woeful. Arsenal equally so.

We're so mild-mannered and lacking in fight, it's pitiful. Mourinho must be ruing this group of players. Anyone who looks at our performance and says 'we played well' is lying to themselves. We were abject. Slow. Ponderous. Our only clearcut opportunity came from our only attacking outlet - Valencia. Other than that, nothing. No craft, guile, creativity.
Nonsense, we dominated Arsenal today.

Arsenal were there for the taking, a midfield of Coquelin and Elnainny, Jenkinson, Monreal...the only time Herrera or Pogba got in the box, we scored a goal from it. Then he made stupid substitutions as usual just as Martial was beginning to warm up and get into the game...this game should have been an easy 2 or 3 nil game.
Taking Martial of wasnt a problem.

Don't really get how you were unlucky. You created little, and then chose to sit back on a 1-0 after dominating possession for the previous 30 minutes.

You just said you didn't see the first half and now you're commenting about our performance.

Maybe watch the match before commenting.

We battered you and could've easily had a penalty in the first half too.

You lot need to get a grip of yourselves. We were abject. An Arsenal side with any fight, would've turned us over. In the way that, you know, Chelsea did. Did you enjoy that game? Did you enjoy us ambling around, losing the 50/50's, the misplaced passes, the lack of incision. The lack of fight. The inability to keep the ball in tight areas.

I want to enjoy watching Manchester United, not agonise of every flaw in our play. Can none of you remember how we used to play? Do none of you watch other teams in the top six and realise that our performances are so far below that of them?

Nothing we do is by design. We show flashes of cohesion and as quickly as it appears, it diminishes. We're inconsistent.

I take no issue with Mourinho. It's the players. They are so flakey, it's laughable.

Exactly!!!! We need to sell everyone!!!!! They are shit!!!! I will not be happy until we win every game 7-0 !!!!!!!

Are you on a WUM??.. You said, you didnt watch the first half, and yet say we created little??...

Jose has to make sure that he gets the players he needs and United need and not let Ed play fantasy football. I would actually keep Carrick, but he has to bring in his future replacement, as Michael will not play every game. As I have said we need at least two CB's to give us a good rotation of four. If Jones can stay fit I would keep him and of course Bailly. The wide men I am not sure as it depends if he wants out and out wingers. It is up front that we need someone, a prolific striker, a thirty goal a season man. The not taking chances is what is costing us .

Jose being careful on Marriner.

Created very little? Oh right you yourself said you didnt watch the whole game.

If the match had ended in the 87th minute we'd all be cock a hoop after shitting all over one of the the three best teams in the league this season. With a makeshift back four and our first choice striker suspended. Loads of good individual performances and Pogba's puts to bed the flat track bully stuff. All good, positive stuff.

The fact it didn't end at that point changes the result and ruins everyone's day but doesn't have any effect on where we're going under Mourinho. We're clearly improving and are bound to go on a decent run soon. My only worry is that we still seem to be very dependent on Carrick.

Am still absolutely gutted. That goes without saying.

Jose on the ref: "I don't want to speak about it. I have a very good feeling with Andre Mariner. He is the kind of referee who if he make mistakes against my team there is no intention. He doesn't want to be the star of the game, he is a good referee. I don't want to say if it is a mistake or not, I know because I saw the video, but I don't want to say because he is a good referee."

Another ban incoming...

Jose sums it up himself, we where pressing great off the ball and great on the ball...... so why suddenly try to park the bus?

If that was a performance from a team that doesn't belong in the top 4 then what do you say about Arsenal's performance? Bottom 4? They had nothing and deserved nothing, which means the team in red were a lot better.

We still have trouble creating and finishing clear cut chances but as far as today goes that (and the result obviously) is the only negative I can see.
We played with tempo and intensity and definitely deserved to win, no doubt about it.

Gutted, obv. But the reality is that we deserved to win today, and if you look back at our recent performances (in the league anyway) the awful Chelsea game is looking like the exception not the rule.

Leicester, Stoke, Swansea, Burnley and Arsenal we played really well. Liverpool, well, it's a matter of taste but let's just say we achieved what Mourinho wanted.

It's super annoying to drop points yet again, especially at the start of a tough run. But performances are actually fairly consistent, and in the long run good performances are what will set us right.

We play a great 80 mins when we are leading and decide to sit back and invite pressure on the last ten. If we've kept possession for the first 80, why not do the same till the end ? Having said that, there are definite signs of progress. This result has taken a dump on my weekend tho. :(

I saw from about 30 minutes onwards. Maybe I missed a load of chances in that first thirty mins but the half time analysis didn't seem to suggest it. I'll leave it now, just disagree with the idea that you were unlucky, when I saw very few opportunities for United to score.

Jeez with some comments blaming Rooney and Rashford yet not blaming ref because today it was obviously his fault.

What was Rooney supposed to do? He was very good since he came on holding the ball, making runs and doing everything he could.

Rashford isn't a winger and he spent entire game running do you expect him to chase down Chamberlain who's fresh off the bench?

He isn't a winger so he had no instinct to close down his right side and force him to go inside where Pogba and Blind were waiting which was the move that RB and RW would make, but Rashford isn't any of those.

We were great today and our performance was spot on, even at that goal it looked to me that Jones took a hit from the back and was unable jump in time.

We are simply a better side than Arsenal. Keep playing like we have over the last month and we will get top 4

Indeed.
We'd be saying that AFC (one of the most attacking teams in the league) had zero shots on target.
We did the same to MCFC in the League Cup.
I think we are getting better, but we are very very unlucky.

Our problem is that Rashford and Martial are still very young and very raw and won't be able to win us games all the time. It is obvious both of them are having a serious case of second season blues but both of them are so young, it is a fecking shambles a club like United needst to look at these youngsters to win us games.

On the other hand we have ex-star players like Rooney and Zlatan who just aren't as good anymore as they used to be and also can't win us games anymore all the time.

We all knew this in the summer but somehow in our heads it made perfect that the combination of those players would be able to form a winning team but the reality is that it doesn't work like that and that a team that is serious about winning the title needs a top player in his prime that can win u games all the time. City have that with De Bruyne, Chelsea got it with Hazard, United in truth hasn't had that since 2013 with RVP in his best form ever (years before that we had Rooney at his peak and before that CR7). It is so hard to win games, especially in the PL as a team when you don't have an absolute star player that scores goals left and right against any opponent. It is also the reason why Liverpool or Arsenal won't win it this year because Countinho and Sanchez aren't absolute stars either, the season Liverpool came closest ever to winning it again was with Suarez upfront and that is the type of player you need to win games.

This team massively needs someone like Griezmann

I sure agree on alot of this, but why didnt we go afther him instead of splashing insane money on Martial (which still can be good) I read all the time on here that Griezmann loves United.

Most frustrating thing about this game to me was i felt alot of our players was really good. We deserved it.

Quite pleased with those comments. Thought he'd lose his shit completely. He'd be entitled to.

Am still absolutely gutted. That goes without saying.

Absolutely. The signs of improvement are clearly there. We were excellent today.

The results are not matching the performances - that is the main problem. If you look at results alone, we're doing worse than when LVG was around, when the results were better than the performances, with DDG papering over the cracks. We look much more solid now.

Unlucky in the sense we dominated you and you didnt have a shot on goal until you scored. You havent even been close to our goal.

Agree with everything you said. There are good signs there. I would keep Carrick but as I said elsewhere Jose has to go all out and get a top quality replacement. Michael cannot play every game to get his replacement in and give him chance to bed in properly. Also our pre-season should be better for next season, this one was a disaster.
