Post Match United v Blackburn

The perennial bottlers?
They'll do what they do best and feck up.
If not tomorrow, then in the coming weeks.

48 from 20 is decent enough.
~90 will be a great season.

If someone can top that, then fair fecks.
the problem tonight is losing at home to Blackburn.

Get drunk and pretend it never happened

This was coming, our latest few games the opposition has absolutely capitulated before us, without us playing with that swagger of old. Sure, fine score lines recently, but we did play some boring football for large parts of those games. As soon as we're up against a team with some kind of will power or a team that gets a decision with them (Newcastle penalty, Blackburn penalty), those teams up their game and we're found out.

Then again, injuries doesn't help. And playing an in form Carrick in defence doesn't help either. As well as resting a Rooney's that has been scoring a bit more lately.

But we'll bounce back.

Did we have anyone else? The only exception seems to be Rooney.

Have a look through the thread at my arguments. Even with injuries, we had a strange starting line up. Rafael in midfield and Valencia at right back was absurd.

We looked so much better - still poor, mind - when we righted that wrongs at half time by getting Anderson on and getting Rafael and Valencia into their proper positions.

I was thinking the same. From the start itself, I thought Carrick and Jones in the center would fare well.

The result is hard to take. However, it is Fergie's sheer lack of respect for the fans, Blackburn and our fringe players that is most frustrating and downright pathetic. If the rumours are true it's no wonder Pogba and Morrison want to feck off if they can't get in the team ahead of Park and Rafael in the middle. Gibbo would have done a better job in there FFS...Fergie's fecked up as this was completely avoidable but his arrogance has cost us. The City players have just been given a nice pick me up just as they were looking vulnerable.

Taking smaller clubs for granted has cost us many times in the past and we don't learn. That should have been 3 points in the bag for us and now it's advantage City for the second half of the season.

Do feck off. You dont put youngsters into the firing line like that.

Not a shocker. We seem to have one every year. City will drop points for sure. The pressure on them near the end of the season will be enormous.

Can people stop saying this ffs!

How did we take Blackburn for granted today? We had TWELVE players unavailable including four centre-backs which unsurprisingly completely fecked up the balance of the team.

you don't put youngsters in? Blackburn did and they haven't got the best youngsters since '96

Yet we still played a RB in central midfield and a midfield player at RB.

We still made crap team selections.

As i said in another thread, Blackburn have to be the worst side i've ever seen come to OT, score 3 and take the points without actually doing anything in the match!

GCHQ> injuries or not, this stank or round pegs in square holes. Why did we have to rest Giggs and Rooney together? Why didnt we start Anderson then withdraw him later?

What about playing our best central midfielder in defence?

I'm glad you said it. Rooney and Giggs were rested. The Rooney explanation for missing the game was the most unconvincing thing ever. Silly buggery to rest players given the ones that are missing. Rio missed the game with a cold. Christ...

aye - most baffling of all was the Rafael/Valencia selection. Valencia plays in mf for his country and Rafael is a rb:wenger::confused:

That's the same Anderson who'd been out injured for two months. So not surprising he didn't start is it?

I agree but Anderson's just back and it was a risk to setup the way we did, however there's no guarantee Ando would play well from the start is there, this is all in hindsight. SAF is the man who sees them in training everyday and he made a decision. Rooney has a few niggles and I'd rather rest him now rather than risk him and get him injured for a prolonged period, we had enough going forward and it was the defensive display which cost us today. I don't know why SAF didn't include Giggs, he could have split midfield duties between him and Ando if he was worried about fitness. SAF made a few gambles today which didn't pay off, he righted them to an extent but I feel his players let him down in some instances. Bad day at the office but SAF and the players get it right more often than not.

I think we dominated possession in the first half but created few clear chances. The foul for the penalty was stupid but still don't know why hadn't already been awarded a free kick for any of the fouls on Berbatov. Although we were very slow we were still the better team in the first half and miles better in the second. We did underestimate them and I'm also confused by the playing of players out of position, but I don't believe we deserved to lose.

I can see the logic in Ando not starting, given his injuries. That said, Rafael hasn't had a great deal of action, has he?

Even if we accept that Anderson was not ready, Rafael and Valencia's starting positions were just plain wrong.

And the absence of Rio, Giggs and Rooney all seems a bit soft and unconvincing.

We've dropped a bollock today. I'm sure we'll get a response at SJP. The team will be far stronger.

We obviously didn't rest them though. They weren't fit enough to play.

They didn't have any other options. It was forced on their part. If we put Pogba on and suffered the same result what good would that do for his confidence?

maybe - but that is "if". He would have to be an improvement on what was our mf. This lad is supposed to be the dogs bollox and we watch a group of Blackburn kids beat us yet worry that it might scar Pogba for life if he doesn't have a blinder? If he's good enough he's old enough - but anyway, that is not the main issue.

The notion of not wanting to bring youngsters in because of the pressure is a bit flaky IMO. Blackburn played a hell of a lot of youngsters of late, and they've made big impacts...

Do we really need a post-match thread? I don't see the point.

This. I just go over to RAWK to laugh at their post match threads all the time. We really shouldn't stoop so low.

I thought Carrick did ok aerially, however the lack of delegation cost us at the back. Jones should have marked Yakubu in open play and Samba from set pieces, doesn't matter who's next to him.

Oh yeah because Valencia has regularly played CM for us. Having had such a good game from RB against Wigan Fergie obviously thought it was worth keeping Valencia there.

Valencia plays mf for his country and Rafael is a rb ffs - but Valencia had a decent game vs Wigan and that explains it?
