Gaming Pokémon Strumfest

I'm going to buy Pokemon Sun and/or Moon in a few hours, any recommendations for my first run? I already have a few pokemons mind for my team, anyone around for trading if I need to evolve something?
I'm about to start too. We can trade together

@Snowjoe your posts make me want to collect cards again. I did as a kid before my collection was thrown out (without my knowledge) when I left home

Get a wide range of types.

I found Machamp to be quite useful for me as well as an Arcanine

I'm so tempted. How much are packs? I think my girlfriend would kill me though.

Yeah man I'm just training up to the elite 4. Waiting for them to enable the Pokemon bank for the game so I can transfer my other Pokemon over and finish the pokedex.
So are you breeding if I need something?

Well I did use qr codes to get a cynaquil which i found to be the best firepokemon to use in my game
Oh I never use old pokemon on my first run, always test out the new one, Litten look interesting enough as well.

Too much. Usually £3.50 unless you buy in bulk. I highly recommend you don't get into it

Haha OK, I think its one of those things I'll have to wait til I've got kids for and use them as an excuse...

What's the best game to play now? I was thinking of getting an Emu for Red/Blue, is there anything better that will still have some of that nostalgic feeling?

I find Yellow the best one yet.

The remake of red and blue maybe? Firered and Leafgreen. It runs fine on a phone too.

Thanks, any idea what the best emulator to get is? Also, do emulators let you trade/link with friends? I've got an iPhone so I don't think I will be able to use that.

2 1/2 hours in and Windows suddenly restarts and I didn't have a snapshot saved

Get yourself a DS. Original Red/Blue/Yellow on the store, red, green, gold, silver, ruby & sapphire remakes on cartridge, can't go wrong. All terrific games and remakes.

Yeeeeaaahhhh Mario and the Luigi ones. Can't wait. Just gotta wait for them to ship from Japan :(
Excellent!

I'd like to get them, but I'm thinking of saving for something else that's quite expensive and want to try and focus on that, so they might have to wait. They'll probably go out of print and become super rare and expensive knowing my luck

I think they might already be sold out but I could be wrong. Thought the earlier the better on snapping them up!

So what are you saving for eh?

I got Pokemon Moon for Christmas and am enjoying it. However even though I'm only about two hours in I'm pig sick of the old bloke, the young whippersnapper who I keep battering and that stupid girl whose Pokemon I saved forcing me to go with them and chatting rubbish at me over and over.

I know they've never been massively challenging and cerebral but I've noticed on the last few games a general dumbing down. You're led round a lot more than before and given much more signposting. Also little things like your rival trying to be your mate instead of being an arsehole to you and picking the starter Poke that's weak against yours instead of strong. As I said the game has never been a huge challenge and the trading/battling is still fun but I find it a shame the makers seem keen to remove any hardship whatsoever from the main quest.

@12OunceEpilogue the games have definitely gotten easier as they have gone on although I feel like these new ones are harder than the previous couple. Luckily I play them to collect pokemon rather than the story battles so I don't mind too much.

@12OunceEpilogue pretty much all of your complaints are on aspects that make the games more accessible for a wider audience. Although, on that topic- I played a modified Pokémon FireRed game that brought back a lot of in-game challenge and it was refreshing really. I'd argue that the Pokémon games have only ever been varying degrees of easy, but I never played anything released prior to Ruby/Sapphire (2003-ish)

Yes collecting Pokes is still very fun and I'll be trading my guys over from the previous game pretty soon.

Meh, they were never challenging really, the old ones were a bit more grindy, but that's about it.

Agreed, I suppose I'm just a little irked by having my hand held by annoying, cloying wankers rather than being allowed to explore at my leisure. I also accept the makers are attempting to make the games as accessible as possible and that I'm not exactly in the game's core audience anymore. I just think they could have lost a bit of the hand-holding and listless dialogue from the likes of the old fella and the Prof. Oscar Isaacs from Ex Machina dude.

As I said I'm enjoying it, in fact I'll put a couple of hours in right now.
