Gaming Pokémon Strumfest

Nintendo have just announced an upcoming 3DS and Wii U NFC game;

I imagine a Pokemon will come too eventually (if they aren't included in this one).

They sort of did pokemon already with the Rumble U game, but perhaps that was a trial run for the real thing?

Chinpokomon, gotta buy them all!

Really looking forward to the Ruby/Sapphire remakes. Most people like the second generation the most, but I've always been a bigger fan of the third. The first gameplay video is apparently going live on Sunday, so that will be nice to see so soon. Hopefully Nintendo push it at E3 too.

I was a little surprised at first, as the release seemed a little soon (I always expected these games at some point in 2015). However, I think Pokémon (the main series game) is going to get cash-cowed a little more for the foreseeable future. Nintendo announced big losses for the financial year, so something like this is going to go a long way to rectifying that (along with Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and potentially a new Zelda among other titles). It's a very swift reply to negative figures by quickly releasing games that will make them significant profits. I would not be surprised to the see the X & Y sequels (or Z Version) released toward the end of 2015 still.

Features I want to return from the originals

Secret Bases:
These were one of my favourite things in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, with the customisation options and the ability to battle AI versions of your friends. This was also a great option for EV Training and Level Grinding, as you could have your friend set up a team that gave the points you wanted. StreetPass Features were rather weak in X & Y which was strange, as it's the kind of social game you'd expect to make great use of it. Secret Bases appearing in your game via StreetPass will go a long way to changing how good the feature is in the games. This has to happen.

Battle Froniter: Easily the best incarnation of the post-game challenges for the competitive player. X & Y made things better thanks to being able to postpone your winning streak after every game instead of every seven games, so I'd like this to stay but bring back all the facilities and Symbols/Medals. It is truly challenging to collect them all and actually having badge-like rewards gives the game another element over other games in the series to the casual and competitive players (though G/S/C probably win-out for all casual players due to 16 Gyms).

Dive: Diving underwater in 3D is appealing if they can do it. It would be a nice distraction to see Pokémon swimming around and some nice water with the 3D effect on.. People complain about too much water in Hoenn, but with the speed of the games now, it won't matter so much.

I'm not fussed about Contests returning, though I'm sure they'll do it.

I'll have a list of new things I want them to add, but I think everything from X and Y should return as well, as practically all of the new features were/are amazing.

It's inevitable we'd get Dive back, as it's part of the game. But this could be enhanced for the 3DS... A genuine underwater world, not just a few caves, would be great.

The problem with Dive is the fact it's a HM, so you need Surf, Waterfall and Dive to complete the game... Which is an absolute pain. Waterfall and Dive didn't really add that much to the original games, either. So the remakes need to really expand on that, and it's a lot easier to expand on Dive than Waterfall.

I loved a few of the Gen 3 pokemon. Spinda, Flygon, Zangoose, Kecleon etc. There were some cool looking bastards.

Also I think Nintendo really need to get on distributing some more event pokemon, I mean I've played the games since the very beginning and there are more than a few that I don't have, and younger gamers won't have ever had the chance to legit own something like Mew. If I'm gonna catch them all then I want to actually be able to catch them all.

Same they didn't make the HM one generic "swim" catch all. Perhaps only evolved pokemon/single form pokemon can go through waterfalls of underwater...

Seviper was badass, but sadly shite defensively, and too slow to live with it. Cacturne too.

I'll be looking forward to building a team with Grumpig though, and running around the first few hours with a Wurmple and a Tailow

Yeah, some of them are far too hard to lay hands on.

Just been sending some Pokemon through the transporter. I got Platinum preowned last year and there were some mad pokemon on there including Shaymin, Darkrai, Shiny Vaporeon, Shiny Typhlosion, Porygon, The Legendary Lake pokemon, Shiny Monferno, Shiny Glaceon. All of which passed the legality check which I wasn't expecting. Had the legendary Golems that all failed and an Arceus too, but I have an Arceus anyway so whatever.

I know some of those could still be hacked anyway, unless the previous owner devoted his whole life to hunting shinys

This. And for goodness sake, make all legendary pokemon giveaways on the nintendo wfc, there's zero events in my country for pokemon and I've no hope of attending any just for pokemon.

If you want to reward people who go to the shops for giveaways, give them shinies with exclusive moves.

Yeah that's a good idea, shinys for the extra effort, it's not cheapening shinys really considering a lot of the legendaries were shiny locked anyway. I wouldn't even want to be given the pokemon either, I'd be happy with a key item distributed to unlock a part of the map so you can battle and catch them. actually I think I'd prefer that.

This is true.

Groudon is a legendary I have a hard time not using. I generally avoid them as it's too easy, but Groudon.....

I suppose it matters not, plenty of non-legendaries that are ridiculously good too.

Yeah I tend to never use Legendaries, not a fan and a lot of them don't have move sets I like. I find it really hard not to use starters though.

Currently trying to complete the central Kalos dex, gonna do each part of the pokedex at a time and I'm determined to do it, 700 odd pokemon though this could take a while

Most of them I wouldn't be bothered about.

Articuno was always one of my fave pokemon, but it's been shit in game since gen 2 anyway. Groudon is Groudon. I quite like Jirachi too.

Aye, it's a ridiculous effort now. It was hard enough a few gens back ffs.

fecking Jirachi is one I wish they would distribute again, haven't had the chance to ever have one, that and Mew. It's annoying as I know you don't need them for the pokedex but it'll just annoy me.

Hopefully they to a Jirachi event for the remake release.

I have some Jirachi in older games, at least one is 100% legit. I need to get around to pokemon bank and transferring stuff.

If you have one that gets through and you end up doing it any chance I can borrow it to get it in my dex, I have legit Shaymin and Darkrai if they're any use.

Here it is. Stopped collecting shinies a while ago (I was a complete fanatic when X/Y came out, usual as every time a Pokemon game comes out), and I rechecked to see a starter not in a Pokeball so I got a bit suspicious.

Nothing out of place tbh, you can breed them into any pokeball now, and the moveset is breedable too, I can't remember if Ice Punch is legit, but I'd imagine so with Pokemon Bank.

Alright, thanks. Just three months of not playing Pokemon and I seem to forget everything.

Do bred Pokemon's start from level 1 now ?

Does anyone here use Showdown? It's basically competitive gaming on a PC. Really cool website.

Shiny Totodile you lucky bastard! I'm pretty sure Ice Punch is legit as an egg move too.

I'm kicking myself, I deleted my Black save a little while back and just realised it had my Genesect on it :(

Nah, they're generally considered one of the weakest pairs, though I thought they were fantastic.

Fair enough, I just thought they were because there seems to be so much circle-jerking on sites like reddit about wanting the remakes I figured they were highly rated! Either ways mo' pokemon mo' happiness.

Aye, and tbh, even the worst main pokemon game is better than most other games anyway.
People just couldn't handle the water.

Some say they didn't like the pokemon of the times designs, but I don't see them any different than other gens.

I though some, like the local bird, were an improvement.

was it Ruby and Saphire with the 'Unknown' Pokemon? i always found those interesting, i can't quite remember the story behind them now though but that's all good. i'll learn it again in these remakes.
