Haven't played Emerald for ages, in fact I can't remember playing at all. Not a bad shout that!
I still have my original copy and a flippy GBA. I played through it recently but couldn't decide past 4 mons, my Combusken was level 75 by the 6th gym.

I'm playing the hacked Black 2 now. I've not even got out of the first patch of grass and I've caught 8 pokemon.

I'm been playing through Omega Fire Red since someone mentioned it in here, makes the original games seem a piece of piss. Also makes you realise that there are no good water attacks for a big chunk of the game until you can get your hands on surf.
I haven't played that one but started a bit of fire red yesterday and even that really sucks at first if you pick Charmander.
Nothing good against rock to start with, and the pidgeys, Pickachu, weedle and caterpie are all weak to Brock, it's silly
I just realised something. Snowjoe, you're never going to get up to playing FF9.

I always head to that bit of grass before you get to get to victory road and pick up a Nidoran and Mankey to help with the first gym.
Omega Red is a bit different in that the choices at the beginning are smoochum, elekid and magby and you are handed all the starters at various points.
Doesn't Butterfree learn confusion at like lvl 12 or something? And in Fire Red I'm pretty sure a little bit of grinding gets Charmander/Charmeleon Metal Claw quite early on and you can breeze through then.

I played this recently and had a Charmander. Metal Claw was super effective against Geodude and Onix.

I'm at Fuschia City now anyway so I can pick up Surf and then go back and beat Gary at Silph Co.
What if you cant catch the first pokemon you encounter?
You can't catch anything in that area.
I take it back about that sounding like a good idea.
The releasing the fainted sounded like a great idea though.

Depends how you want to play it I guess, if you're going hardcore then that's that, but keep going till you get one I guess.

When I play Nuzlockes I use the universal randomizer to make everything that little bit more mental.
I also create a graveyard box in the PC rather than release them, so I remember my fallen comrades.
I think there's also the rule that you have to nickname all of your pokemon in an attempt to make you feel more attached to them.

Then you caught a load of Azpilicuetas.
Apparently if you have a full team of Azpilicuetas you can easily win everything, heard a famous trainer say that once.
