Gaming Pokémon Strumfest

Understand what you meant @Redlambs.
They give you powerful tm's that can be used a unlimited amount of times everytime you beat a gym-leader.
In the city of the 2nd gym, you can get insanely powerful moves for your already maxed out starter in water, fire and electric typing, before even fighting the 2nd gym. You don't even have to choose, you get all.
And you can boost the shit out of stats by just sending pokemon to the dog-factory and feeding the results to the ones you want to boost.

I ended up storing my Eevee. Mostly because I want to level up shinies/things that can evolve. ;)

Yeah it's way to easy to overlevel without trying.

I've managed to hold back, use no tm moves (and those ones you are given in pokecentres) and now I'm under levelled if anything and the game is more challenging though still pretty easy because the enemy trainers refuse to switch pokemon when they should or generally only have one or two max.

Btw a question on shineys as I haven't tried yet, but when grinding for them does the pokemon type you combo only help towards finding a shiney of that type, or did others appear? For example if you combo 30 oddish, does that also raise the odds of a shiney pidgey the next time one spawns?

They can come for whatever reason, but comboing a pokemon gives you a higher chance of that pokemon being shiny.
That's how I've understood it.

Cheers, I might try find time this weekend to grind a couple. Have you been in any caves yet? Having an Onix spawn near you is actually kind of jump-scary
Had that happen while I was farming Chanseys for grinding-purposes in the good old zubat-cave.
Currently I'm at Lt. Surge. Got some news today that put me a bit off playing for the rest of the day. Maybe I'll continue tomorrow. :p

It's for every Pokemon at the location, not just the one that you're chaining . Just that if you capture a shiny Pidgey, your chain will reset whereas capturing a shiny Oddish would just make your chain continue .

Just beat the elite four. It's been very easy thus far. I heard someone beat the Pidgey master trainer with a level 3 Pidgey.

I've been gaming 35 years and I've never played a Pokemon game.

Fun fact
Fancy getting into it?

I think the newer gens are rubbish, and the newer games are boring like Go, lets go eevee/pikachu, etc, but I'd recommend the likes of Leaf Green/Fire Red, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, Ruby/Saphire.

Yeah you've really got to hold your pokemon back for any slight challenge, even then the enemy a.i is non existant.

Really find it strange that this is the case! I assume they have directed this game at younger kids than normal. Seems crazy that there is no ability to alter the difficulty sessions though.

Ok... I need an explanation here. I've just caught six Gravelers in row yet the combo is 3, am I missing something?

It doesn't reset if you run away. So the effective way of leveling is entering battle, throwing a ball and run yourself if it didn't work.

I caught 16 Gravelers in a row and the 2 that ran, I threw around 2 or 3 ultra balls when they decided they didn't want a comfy home.

Thanks. I’m guessing these are easily emulated on PC?

So is it he general take on this positive? Tempted to pick it up tomorrow but worried it’s too simplistic?

I completer Mario Odyssey so figure if I trade it in I can robsbly pick up let’s go for 25-30 quid.

Aye, it's pretty simplified, and zero challenge even by Pokemon standards, but it's still super enjoyable. I'm especially enjoying chain catching to find good pokemon, and that they give you an IV checker early and usable from your menu.

Interesting thought. Nuzlocke... How would that work? Seeing as you can pick encounters, you could target specific pokemon on each route which would be a massive advantage. On the flip side, since you can't grind you'd be super under-levelled, could lead to a great challenge. Guess you could adapt rules though, maybe the first and nearest pokemon in each route, and you can catch for exp but have to send all to Professor Oak.

I kind of wish we could battle wild pokemons. They could just reintroduce that and then make it somewhat harder, let us find items to make leveling secondaries easy as before with exp.share rather than the current way of giving exp to all as a standard, then I'd absolutely love how they've worked on the game.

Oh, and obviously you shouldn't start with a maxed out IV pokemon that can learn every op move early on.

I'm on a 45 combo with Graveler, where I think I've accumulated around 35,000 EXP, and rejected the chance to catch a Dragonite in bid for a shiny.

Question guys - what is this about combo catches etc / shinny's?

Are you exclusively catching the same pokemon for extra XP? Wonder if i should be more targeted in how i play? Only put 45 mins in last night, and its enjoyable so far.

I think I have it figured. I went to the route just above the powerplant and caught, at least, 31 Spearows - I went up to 40 as the candies attained increases exponentially. By around the 40th Spearow, a shiny Charizard appeared. I think that any Pokemon that is present in that area can appear as a shiny once you've attained the combo - remember all the combo does is increase your chances of finding a shiny on the map.

You can also use the shiny charm to further increase the rate. Thats where I was going to ask if anyone has a Parasect, Horsea and Omastar/Nyte to trade for a short minute?

Thanks - i figured i'm getting ahead of myself and should try and complete the story / populate the pokedex first? I'm less than an hour in, and wondered whether this was a way of keeping people interested post story, or whether it was part of the gaming experience throughout.

I assume that the Shiny Charm isn't given to you unless you're a huge chunk through the game itself?

That has stats. As long as the catch combo is high, the shiny charm doesn't have a huge impact.

Get the shiny charm by completing the pokedex. I have 3 shinies. Venonat, Geodude and Charizard - I only farmed the latter.

Master trainers, though. Charizard one beat mine, that was on steroids, 4 times before I finally defeated it.

Oh my God...

Forgot how easy the Pokémon games were to sink hours into! I'm 3 gym badges in and my core team are averaging level 40 - Pikachu / Charizard / Blastoise / Venusaur / Clefairy / Nidorina.

Can you still get a bicycle? Seem to take an age walking between areas! Just found the Surf TM, which i'm sure is how I used to cross the water on the map on Red / Blue...?

I think my pokedex is at about 53 caught and I have just arrived in Fuchsia City, so need to check out the Safari Zone. I think I missed the Erika gym - any idea where that one is? Some random mentioned it to me, but I appear to have gone off elsewhere as Fuschia City gym leader is Koga...
