Gaming PlayStation 5

Cool, black ops has just added another 25gb to itself. Absolute piece of shit. Literally wants every last bit of space on the SSD.

I never had a ps4 pro.

Both of my Pro's were loud. Loud enough that I could hear them with the tv on. I've now sent them both back. I'll have to decide if I'm going to get a 3rd. It sucks. Especially, as i now have an Edge controller that I can't use. I would end up taking a pretty big lose on that if I sold it second hand.

Why can't sony just make a console that quiet for 99% of their owners? Xbox manage this but it seems beyond PS, these days. I mean, there is no way to know before had if it's going to be loud or not. Not sure I have it in me to buy another and then have send it back. It's a joke. I am supposed to just keep going until I hit the jackout. Dunno.

I also had to send back two psvr's, in the past!
You must have just got unlucky with both of yours. My day one PS5 is super silent. Only makes a noise for about 5 seconds when you insert a disc inside it but other than that it doesn’t make any noise at all. My brother and nephews are the exact same too.

What does bother me is the size of installs these days... Black ops 6 wants as much storage as it can possibly get out of my ps5!

Black ops 6 (without warzone etc) 205gb
Horizon: Forbidden West (plus DLC) 130gb
Diablo IV (without newest DLC) 123gb
Sniper elite 5 (most DLC too) 100gb
EA FC 25: 57gb

And that's it, ps5 full!

COD is always ridiculous sized. Awfully optimised.

Surprised by SE5. I'm putting that down to the DLC levels I think.

Think I'm going to have to eventually pick up an SSD to install, any recommendations? I feel as though I picked one up before and never installed it as didn't quite need it at that time  now I don't know where it is.

Think I probably want to go 2TB. (That'll be in addition to what I've got correct?)

Since this post, it updated another 25gb then another 30gb so now it's 260gb  feck this game man.

I have a 6 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. I convince myself I'm long over videogames but I think if I bought a Playstation I would quickly become immersed in it. I'm proud my son doesnt know how to hold a gamepad but my daughter is too often on her mobile phone. What I'm saying is I'm not sure if I should buy PS cause I would need to explain to my kids why I'm playing so often but they cant or they can but just over the weeked. :D

Dying Light 2 and Ishin as part of PS Plus Extra which makes it a good month for me. They added GTA and Chivalry 2 which were previously and are already on the service respectively, which makes no sense but can’t complain with two fairly big titles this month.
Horrible game. Fetch-quest Ubisoft style shite.

I’m looking forward to playing it. I only played the first game recently and while the writing was average and side quests were pretty much all fetch quests, I really enjoy it as a video game as the gameplay loop was excellent.

I was the same. Really enjoyed the first one. Second was just devoid of fun for reasons I can't quite put my finger on.

Found my old opinions on it from the time of release:

Got this on sale and whilst the core gameplay is ok, the story and side quests are some of the worst I’ve ever seen

The characters ask you to do the most banal things and change their minds within a second. The voice acting is terrible too. I just had one guy ask me to check on his girlfriend whilst he checked a different place. Suddenly he turns up where I am after checking the other place already. Why did he need me? Then he gets mad at me for the girl not wanting to be with him. It makes no sense

The choices you make seem to have no impact so I’m just being as brutal as possible. It’s hilarious watching NPCs get mad but their expressions staying the exact same and tone of voice not changing at all.

Oh also why would you make your main character the most forgettable generic boring person. Even the voice actor I swear has done about 6 other characters in games before.

I’ve uninstalled it. Just found it incredibly boring doing the same shit over and over.

delete the campaign if you are done with it

Yeah I've deleted it now, just checked, and it's back to 261gb? What the actual feck is going on, the entire thing is a shambles install wise.

It's installed vanguard and cold war with no way to delete them? Why?

It says multiplayer is only like 20gb or something but that's all I've got installed apparently so wtf is the rest of it.

Found my old opinions on it from the time of release:
The first game was like that too. The voice acting and writing felt like some b grade / amateur effort. But the moment to moment gameplay was tense and really fun (granted after 7 years of patches). This likely as good as the original but I’d still like to give it a shot.

People still play COD?

Aye, the lads from work do so I do too. It's better than FIFA, but the community fecking sucks in general.

It still has huge flaws, random damage, desync, and feckin glowing bullshit character models. But that's gaming

I haven't played either, but I was excited at a point during Dying Light 2's development because Chris Avellone (writing legend in the gaming industry) was attached to the project. All messaging from Techland was that the game would feature a deep and mature story with tons of choice and player agency, a la Witcher 3 or similar.

Avellone was then accused of sexual assault, and was dropped from the project. A court battle ensued where Avellone was successful and his accusers issued a statement retracting all accusations in addition to being ordered to pay him an undisclosed, but apparently seven figure settlement amount.

I'm still intending to play both games at some point but I'd imagine the second game's story was significantly impacted by that reshuffle.

Can only speak about DL1 and for me it’s one of those games where it’s all about whether the gameplay loop hooks you or not. The story and characters - often caricaturish - are just there to add context to the moment to moment fun which imo was great due to the sandbox and free flow nature of it.

I’d suggest DL enhanced edition if you’re interested as it’s frequently available for a pittance on discount. But only if youre fine with playing an older game - it runs well but it’s not contemporary looking, obviously.

I agree, but it’s still the best online shooter out there.
I mean the mechanics haven’t really changed for years. It’s more all this shit with the game size, constant updates, toxic community, the sheer overload of skins, weapon upgrades, etc.. and being bombarded with live events and pay to win stuff that plagues most AAA games these days.

I haven’t really played any online games, apart from the occasional rocket league round, for the past 3 years. Struggle to find the time. I didn’t really mind the weapon upgrades as the grind was usually fun

the vampire survivors game is a bit addictive.

i only found it when looking at reviews for another similar game.

for 4 quid its been worth the hours.

I thought it was widely accepted that Destiny 2 had set the bar for FPS shooting mechanics? At least that’s what I always see mentioned online despite not really being into multiplayer / online games.

Yeah but that's a looter shooter isn't it? Different genre really. Yeah it's got FPS mechanics, but the goal is completely different than the goals in COD?

Ah okay. I’m not really into the genre to be fair.

I like the idea of destiny, but it always seems randoms are rushing through everything and I don't know wtf is going on, even in cod if you join randoms they're rushing through objectives in zombies and I still don't understand it

You've literally got to get into games like destiny day one otherwise you're left behind sadly. Even if you get destiny 2 day one, but didn't play destiny, you're already miles behind somehow.

I struggled to get into that insurgency game, felt way too difficult when I was versing AI or whatever, like I couldn't even see them before I was popped off.

Mind, I play FPS on a better monitor now with a better refresh rate so could help. However the ps5 doesn't have space on it ATM

Did anyone else here get a Pro console? If so, does yours have a loud fan? I'm going to get my third, this week and just put up with whatever noise it makes

Surely not many? It's just not very compelling this time around...

Agree. I’ll probably get it in 2026 when the PS5 starts running every major title at 30fps. Given I only game on this platform, would make sense to upgrade then. Hopefully by then the price would have fallen a little.

Yes. It's a little louder than the original but cannot be heard over volume of a game. It's noticeable as the original was basically silent. But nowhere near as bad as previous gens
