Gaming PlayStation 5

So PS5 comes on Thursday. Where do people get games from these days? For things like Spider-Man 2, I'd like to have them on disc, so I guess Amazon or wherever is cheapest. What about digital games? For things like FC25, I have no need of a disc as it's so quickly outdated, and I've already got a loft full of FIFA's from the 2010s. Is there a good place for codes that are cheaper than the PS Store but reliable?

I tend to use Shopto majority of the time for mainly PS Store credit codes. Always been reliable for me and you get the code there and then when you have purchased it.

For discs, I just do a comparison across many different retailers (Amazon, Game, Smyths, Argos, HMV, Curry’s) and see who is selling that particular game the cheapest.

Thanks! Looks like digital copies of FIFA are even more expensive... the long line of EA landfill continues!

Started Dead Island 2 since it's free. Incredibly paint by numbers Ubisoft-esque stuff as per but I'll see how long I go before I lose my mind.

I played in on xbox earlier in the year. I did not like it too much at all, despite it being quite well recevied

Yeah I'm not far in and already a bit sick of how hand-holdy and 2010 era the gameplay loop feels.

Not played FIFA in years so can’t comment. Same old rubbish every year. Quote gutting though as the market is there for a top class football game which EA have shown that they just simply cannot produce.

I've had the option of playing for free on Game pass but it's just not a PC game. However generic it is, still perfect for a night in with friends on the big telly.

As I know everyone is fascinated by @swooshboy and my exploits as nazi exterminators.

We played amazingly well last night, spotted instantly as we entered the level and don't think we ever went stealthy again  literally the worst snipers ever. Grenades everywhere, flare guns calling in air strikes, mines everywhere.

Still some of the best fun you can have in coop.

To be fair, the level design didn't give us too many options!!

But yep – amazing fun!!!

Got my Pro today!

This thing is not quiet. It's makes about as much noise as my og PS5. Was hoping I would get luckier on that front.

Ps5 or ps4? My ps5 has always been so silent apart from when the disc drive is booting something. My ps4 was a rocket ship.

PS5s were manufactured with two different brands of internal fan. One brand is somewhat loud, the other is almost completely silent. I was lucky and got the quiet one, but my roommate's was significantly louder. He ordered the quieter fan off amazon or something and replaced it himself (it's very easy).

it’s definitely louder but not bad really when compared to ps4 gen

Right, so I guess I'm a PlayStation person now for the first time since the PS2.

A few questions.

What's the speaker in the controller all about? I turned it off right away as it felt like an annoying addition to my surround set up. Am I missing out on anything? Is it used as a feature in some games?

Installed Spider-Man 2 from disc and it took forever, seemed to be downloading for hours. Is it quicker to just install from disc with the machine offline and then get updates when you launch? I've never known a disc installation take this long, was like buying from Steam.

What's everyone's subscription recommendation? Do you need a basic level to play online? At what level (price) do you get access to classic games?

Also... Think I've struck lucky and got a quiet one. Can only hear the disc and not the fans.

PS5. My og was quiet noisy and my Pro is the same. It's not bad. I was just hoping for better.

Also, it's ugly with the disc drive attached.

Despite these issues, I'm enjoying it! Playing AW 2 DLC on it.

 Yes the PS4 was something else. My AC was not match for it.

PS5 is mostly silent unless you insert a disc which makes it slightly grumpy for a minute.

Heads up to UK folk, if you get the pro from VERY you can get 20% off if you're a new customer.

In the meantime, I'm considering getting a replacement for my console. The fan is annoying me on this model.

@One Night Only Will be on later this evening if you are?

Is it better to get digital ps5 or the disc version?

- how much storage does an average game consume?

- how often are digital games on sale?

- do physical games being cheaper overall save you more money?

Asking for a friend.

Disc definitely. Ive sold quite a lot of my used games which funds new games. Digital is hampering yourself unless money isnt an issue.

Been paying Horizon ZD in 40 FPS and not only does it look really nice but personally I find the framerate to a LOT better than 30 FPS (obviously because it's higher, but that's only ten frames in difference). 60 is the best for gameplay but this is the first time I've played 40 and it's surprisingly comfortable.

Also got back into Returnal- wish they'd make a sequel.

I remember it being used in Resogun. Don't remember in any other games.

Honestly got no idea. I've not bought any disc games this gen.

To play online (v other people) you need at least Essential, and you get 3 games a month with that. Classic games come with Premium/Deluxe but you can access a range of PS4/5 games with Extra. This is a decent resource to the games on each tier: https://psnowguide.com/games/

Premium: https://psnowguide.com/subscription/premium/
Extra: https://psnowguide.com/subscription/extra/
Essential: https://psnowguide.com/subscription/essential/

Extra gets the games of Extra and Essential. Premium gets the games of Premium, Extra and Essential.

Most games are anywhere between 40 and 120gb.

If you're asking about the Pro, it has about 1.8tb of free space which is plenty. If you mean a standard PS5, that only has 650gb or so

Thanks hobbers. I meant the original. In that case it's not worth it I reckon.

Returnal

I returned my Pro in the hope I can get lucky with a replacement that doesn't sound like a leaf blower.

I meant to say the other day that I did buy the charging stand for the controller and I should have got this thing much earlier. The battery life on the dualsense, including the Edge, is crap and plugging them in every day gets old.

My second pro is louder than the first. I'll be getting a refund and waiting for the PS6.

I need sony to hire some ms engineers for the PS6a and make a quiet console for everyone. It can't be that hard. I bet anything they cheaped out on the fan's on these pros.

Mine is still completely silent.

Silent is a nice to have, but actually the noise wouldn't even bother me these days, generally wear a headset for gaming anyway.

What does bother me is the size of installs these days... Black ops 6 wants as much storage as it can possibly get out of my ps5!

Black ops 6 (without warzone etc) 205gb
Horizon: Forbidden West (plus DLC) 130gb
Diablo IV (without newest DLC) 123gb
Sniper elite 5 (most DLC too) 100gb
EA FC 25: 57gb

And that's it, ps5 full!

COD is always ridiculous sized. Awfully optimised.

Surprised by SE5. I'm putting that down to the DLC levels I think.

Think I'm going to have to eventually pick up an SSD to install, any recommendations? I feel as though I picked one up before and never installed it as didn't quite need it at that time  now I don't know where it is.

Think I probably want to go 2TB. (That'll be in addition to what I've got correct?)
