Gaming PlayStation 5

Is it worth upgrading to the PS5 pro? I play sports titles exclusively including FC/Fifa and the 2K series including car racing titles such as Grandturismo. I’ve heard there will be a considerable jump in visuals/graphics with the new console
There will not be a considerable jump in visuals. There wasn't even a considerable jump going from PS4 to PS5

FIFA has looked the same for years now I highly doubt there will be any noticeable difference in the pro version

40 hours into Metaphor and I'm really enjoying it. Still think AstroBot is my game of the year but this is a really good JRPG. The combat job system reminds me of FFV in a way.

Silent Hill 2 is a miserable, depressing, terrifying experience. It's great.

Every time the radio crackles I'm muttering "Feck sake" and on edge.

Just got the Astrobot platinum trophy. What an fantastic game, easily my GOTY so far. Though I spent an embarrassing amount of time on the very final bonus level

Also enjoying the new speed run levels - there is a whole series of achievements so there must be more coming soon

Are those speed run levels as annoying as those triangle/circle/square/X levels ? Those took me an absolute age to complete.

I loved them. They were frustrating but in a good way. Building the muscle memory to beat them was very satisfying.

Anyone know of other games that have that kind of quick/challenge run platforming.

How did y’all like Gran Turismo 7? Planning on picking that, Elden Ring and Wasteland 3. Still regarding the old Ps1 game as the best racer ever made but have fallen out of love with such games in general.

You wont find a better current racing game on console.

I played it until one of the first updates where they completely changed the credit earnings, where you then had to grind the same races for hour after hour after hour in order to buy the fun cars….Unless you wanted to spend some real life money on buying credits, ofcourse…No idea what they’ve done with the game since then, i just completely lost all interest.

Lovely. I hope it rekindles some of that love for driving games we all had growing up.

I don’t like grinding but hopefully it hooks. No chance I’m spending actually money.

For me it just became a bit meaningless, spend hours grinding the exact same races in order to maximize credit earning in order to buy a new car.

I would’ve preferred different modes where i could race around in any car i wanted, just for a bit of fun, and then a career mode / multiplayer mode that depended on building up your own garage with cars and equipment.

I just don’t think it’s all that suitable for racing games.

I tried going for a refund, but no luck as i had already started playing the game.

The worst thing about gt7 is the same as them since gt4?

You've got unreal cars stupid quick..used to like having a banger, grind a bit to upgrade or buy nicer car and repeat.

Now it just gifts you all the best stuff, upgrades are pretty pointless as you just buy a full new car instead

Your and @NotChatGPT ‘s views on progresion are polar opposites.

It's more of a grind than Forza, but less of a grind than old GT's.

You've basically got supercars an hour into the game, the originals you barely got new wheels for your used van thing by that point.

It's definitely a great game, but it's catering for the "CBA to play, just want the best shit as quick as possible" crowd

Just picked up Warhammer: Space Marine 2.

The review I watched immediately compared to Gears of War and that’s the vibe I get within a minute of playing it. The main guy is even Marcus Fenix esque. It also reminds me a bit of Resistance : Fall Of Man although as an Xbox kid I only played that briefly.

I think I’ll enjoy this.

Finished Metaphor. The ending was a bit of a slog but a terrific game overall. Pleased to see turn-based games seemingly doing well again.

I just finished Astro Bot. This game is so good. It's on the easier side for a platformer, but still really enjoyable.

The soundtrack also had no business going as hard as it does.

I'm dipping in and out of this at the moment. It's fun enough but incredibly repetitive.

A few hours into Metaphor. I like it a lot so far. I thought Persona 5 had too much filler and was overrated because of that but this has much better pace.

Felt the same way about Persona 5. I had fun while I played it but 100 hours for the main story is just plain stupid and I had no desire to continue beyond the 40 hour mark. This seems to clock in at 48 hours to b-line it which is about right for a long game.

All the dialogue about their favourite food and stuff drove me insane. Its high points were magnificent but so much tedious filler. Didn't deserve the perfect review scores but still a good game. So much the time i spent waiting for my chance to actually play the game

In pre prep for my pro coming I bought the dualsense edge. Going to switch to playing COD on PS5 from xbox. I've set it up on PC and the small paddles it comes with are fantastic. I do wish it had the option for 4 paddles, though because i'm used to having on 4 on xbox.

I’ve got ps5 pro arriving next week. But nothing new to play. Holding off for Black Friday / Xmas sales for Alan Wake and Silent Hill

I do have Astobot still to play, does anyone know if that has any enhancements?

I don't have a PS5 but it just feels like there hasn't been any real next gen games yet, it seems it's just remakes. Am I missing any?

As in you have a ps4 so you’ve played the new Horizon, Spiderman, God of War? If so, not a lot, Returnal, Astro Bot, A Rift Apart are a few great ones that spring to mind.

I think the overall experience on ps5 is much better though for games that release on both due to increase fps, better graphics and especially any that take advantage of dual sense which is an amazing experience. If you care about any of that.

So PS5 comes on Thursday. Where do people get games from these days? For things like Spider-Man 2, I'd like to have them on disc, so I guess Amazon or wherever is cheapest. What about digital games? For things like FC25, I have no need of a disc as it's so quickly outdated, and I've already got a loft full of FIFA's from the 2010s. Is there a good place for codes that are cheaper than the PS Store but reliable?

Not many. Spiderman 2 and some smaller games like astro bot and rift apart

I already have a gaming pc so 60fps wasn't a selling point for me and games are cheaper(or free;) on pc so I just sold my ps5 and never regretted it

Are there any games worth playing on this that I might of missed? I check back in to the store from time to time but it seems like the only interesting games are from last gen. Must admit I do most of my gaming on the Xbox but playstation is gathering a bit of dust so I need to either start using it or sell it. Any game recommendations.
