Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Yeah I'm holding off on BF4 until EA/DICE get their shit together.

Someone on the gaf who works for them reckons GAME are charging £59.99 for new games, don't know how true that is but I would never put it past them.
It's so they can charge people £20 to upgrade from current gen versions

People fell for their trade in offer.

Once Xmas eve passes and the trade in value for the ps3 titles goes right down (expiration of trade in offer), ps4 game prices will come down too.

Media Markt where I have pre-ordered the whole thing are having a wonderful offer at launch - a bundle with Killzone and AC4 at €450, seeing as games are between €50 and €55 it's around €350 for the console which is extremely good. Bundles will be limited though so I will have to get myself over to Media Markt very early to get my hands on it.

I bought a new gen FIFA14 BTW. I don't get why they release them a week early but seeing as the store only had 10 copies I didn't feel like taking a chance.

Just an FYI, at this point in time battlefield 4 barely works. No conquest mode, constant crashes and glitches with single player saves. I'm sure it'll all get patched up, hopefully before the euro release. But right now, it's essentially unplayable.

When it does work though, it's fantastic.

Yeah, I just did some research and the game really does seem to be a bit of a train wreck at the moment. With that game ruled out, there's few games that I'd even consider buying besides Fifa, which I currently have on the 360. Call Of Duty hasn't really gotten great reviews and it stopped being a fun game for me long ago anyway.

I'm seriously considering holding out for a while, as much as I do want to pick up the PS4.

European web sites have their consoles now and have confirmed apps for uk launch are BBC Sport, BBC Iplayer, 5OD and IGN, expecting the others like Netflix and love film to be on there by the time it launches.

Yes please! Many a happy hour playing the original Crash games.

I'm gonna call it right now. Sony Bend with guidance from Naughty Dog working on a new Crash game.

Me too, thats why I said Sony Bend with guidance from ND like Uncharted Golden Abyss.

Oh man.. That would be fecking awesome!

Just before the launch the Crash rumours stemmed from that picture too, and I remember people were pointing out that the video it was taken from also had homage to lots of other Playstation past IPs.

Still, I'm a believer.

Just been confirmed that I'll get my ps4 on release from Gamestop at £329.97.

Not bad that. Just need to plan on what games to get as copies of Fifa and Ghosts will be in short supply.

I'm still waiting to decide on games. See if BF4 gets patched this week. If not probably Killzone and Fifa.

I thought the PS4 was released in Europe today? But I've a friend who isn't getting his until next week.

Ahhhh, I know what I'm thinking of, sorry, my mistake. The PS4 came out two weeks earlier in the States than Europe, but the XBox was a simlutaneous launch. I'm thinking of regions being released at the same time, not consoles.

My Facebook is full of people posting up pictures of their new XBox consoles, and being spammed by hostile PS4 gamers. I imagine the favour will be returned next week when the PS4 gamers get to post up their pictures. Sometimes I'm glad I'm a PC gamer and can stay out of it until everything's settled down! ;)

Just got Fifa14 on the PS4.
Now i just need to wait for the PS4 to get released.

Did you order it online? I'm still waiting on mine(not that there's a rush..).

How'd you get 20£ off?

I pre-ordered when they knocked the price down to £329.97 in the second week of October assuming it'd come in time for xmas, but I got both an email and a call from them this morning confirming it would be dispatched for the release day.

Did you order from amazon? There was a glitch where if you buy fifa on ps4 you might get £44 in credit to spend on NFS or BF4

Got my assassins creed 4 today

Less than 7 days now for me. Have it and ghosts, ac4 and killzone all paid off, so just a case of collection.

Tried to order the camera but no stock left for next week.

Tempted by the 2k basketball game. But probably should wait till it comes down in price.

In Ireland games are €65-€70

I'm going to bring mine home, set it up and give it a run with a few downloadable games (Resogun esp.) and then it's going in the cupboard wrapped up with some boxed games that the kids can play (so Knack will probably be one of them, FIFA too probably, not decided) and maybe Killzone and something else for me. It's my son's Christmas present, aren't I a nice daddy?

Always been them same on PSN though, pretty much pay full RRP price on every title. Currently PS3 titles go for £49 on there.

Does t make any sense. Never has. No manufacturing or shipping costs, and they can't be resold. Yet they cost a lot more

No worry for them about shifting stock. If people get impatient and CBA to go to the shop they'll go "feck it" and click buy.

If digital games were far cheaper than retailers would put them out if business. I am guessing there is a good reason why they have to be a little or a lot dearer

I sometimes find it strange when people comment on game prices as there seems to be no historical context a lot of the time. In 1988 most Amiga games shipped on a 1MB 3.5" floppy disks and were made on average by 2-5 people. The cost of one of these games at the time was 25 quid. If you take inflation into account, today that would be 57 quid. Modern games on the PS3 are priced around that RRP, yet can hit 50GB and be made by teams of 150 people. Obviously the main difference here is the unit sales achievable today due to gaming being far more popular now then it was back then. Amiga had lifetime sales of around 5.5 million units, quite different to the 80m PS3s and 80m XB360s that have been sold. That's one of the main reasons why teams can employ 150 people instead of 5 making much larger games.

Sony basically first came across this problem with the PSP Go, the sliding screen one that had no physical media at all, it was all download. Retailers refused to sell it because they make their margins on software sales, not hardware sales. Without any place to buy the thing Sony gave up on the whole idea of digital only.
