Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

I hope Watch Dogs doesn't become the next Assassins Creed, with pointless sequels coming out year after year. There's something to be said for games like Half-Life that make you appreciate the game when it eventually arrives

It's Ubisoft, of course it will.

Bah.

Honestly, if there's something to be learned by GTAV it's that waiting pays off. Over saturation of a series works out well in the short term, but eventually people will tire.

A bit happy not to have enough cash at the moment, would've probably rushed to buy it as soon as possible myself. I'll just wait till like second quarter of the next year when everything's settled and so on. Having xbox 360, I wasn't aware that there's such thing as 'blue light of death'

Same here. Blessing in disguise that I can't afford either console.

I believe that knowledge should be free to everyone at the same instance... why would a rich "kid" be able to play a beauty like Uncharted 2 whereas a "poor" one cannot really afford it? Why do they they sell games at the same price around the world irrespective of the cost of living. I do respect intellectual property but I also refuse categorically to be running in a race with a handicap such as the lack of money.

fecking hell! Did you nick your car as well? Are you from Liverpool?

So I saw a YouTube video on the ps4 eye. I told myself it was a gimmick and I would never use it. Next thing I know I am in gamestop pre booking and paying for it.

I'll probably do the same for my PS4 when I get one.

When paying so much money, I feel like I may aswel spend the extra money and offer myself the best experience possible.

Shopto taken money out my account for the PS4 last night, which is slightly annoying considering i was going to change my payment details and delivery details today....

Think they've annoyed quite a few people taking money out almost two weeks early, as there phone lines were jammed all day. Personally it's no bigger deal, but with previous big launches like GTA, FIFA etc they've pre emailed warning people that they money would be taken soon.

It's all Ice-T's fault. He sold me in the video I watched

That's why I ordered the mega bundle, i have the money at the moment so figured might as well get it at beginning of the generation

We only had a limited amount of mega bundles. And even though I pre booked early July, I missed out on. But I did get the killzone bundle

Trying to get the Killzone bundle for Xmas. Will be the only game i'll have at the start but i'll probably get a lot of amazon vouchers to get more games. Destiny and GT6 are top of the list i think.

EDIT: If GT6 isn't going to be on PS4 i'll most likely just get Need for Speed.

No one would make those games if it didn't make economical sense, and certainly not if they were 'free'.

I'm not sure how relevant that is to his point.

His point is simply that regional game prices don't correlate with a regions cost of living. It's a fair point, infact, often due to costs with importing and demand you will find that countries with the lowest GDP (or however else you wish to measure wealth) will have higher costs for consoles/games.

He's not saying they should be free, but that prices should reflect the economy they are being sold in.

Not saying that piracy is right in his case either btw.

I'm only buying this next year, probably around the time the new iterations of football games come out. By then, the issues eith the system should have been solved and there will be a good library of games. For now my ps3 is still good enough for me.

It all goes to bin when you consider the prices of older PS3 games and the value offered by paid subscriptions such as PS+. You can get games like Skyrim, Red Dead, GTA4, all Uncharted games, all Killzone games, most of sports games older than a year and dozens of others for sub £10, at times even around £5 - £7. This is affordable even in poorer regions.

Games are a luxury good. You don't need to play them to survive, they are a mean of entertainment and a good damn one at that, and if you cannot afford a brand new console with its games you have plenty of choice - you can pick up an older generation and still get plenty of juice out of it. You don't need to steal and pretend it's all right.

And to be fair, I live in Poland, we are hardly a rich country ourselves. Most of my friend are on less than £700 net a month and a large chunk of them are on less than £500. Cost of renting a room in Krakow is around £150, a whole one bedroom apartment is around £220 - £250. When it comes to consoles none of them support piracy in any way, most have PS3s and simply trade games and buy older ones.

I didn't get his first sentence about free knowledge. I don't know if it were about games or the information about his whereabouts.

Anywhere to order this online in Ireland before Christmas? Amazon and Gamespot are saying it will arrive in January

I always prefer sony to Microsoft and will most likely buy a ps4 when I do buy another console in the future. But this really is a terrible launch from sony. None of the exclusives look to have hit the mark. Ive always said that console launches are overrated and that its long battle not a short one. Still from what I read theres no reasom to buy a ps4 right now.

There is no real reason to buy either console right now. Iv'e got mine coming for launch. Probably won't open it, and flog it to a desperate parent on ebay for £££ profit.

I had decide quite awhile ago that it makes little sense to get either until a year or so. But still, the launch is quite a drab one irrespective, not that it will matter much in the bigger scheme of things.

Lol @ when Ice T punts the robot onto the TV screen. Cool video...

Is it normal that the Japanese actually get this console last? I'd have thought that they'd get it first. Madness.

I've used spoilers as it's not completely relevant to the topic. I was going to PM you but I also acknowledge a point made by Weaste.

That's all fair and good Sarni, but gaming is a form of escapism just like football or television. It might be a luxury, but I'm not sure that matters, this notion blurs between a line of elitism, where only the rich could afford to game? I know you're arguing that it's cheap, but I'm not sure you have any sufficient proof to make that judgement for all locations.

Is PS+ a global service? I'm not sure if it's offered in all regions, though I do believe there is a PS+ Asia. Even so, not everybody has the online infrastructure or download speeds to make use of the service, and if you flash your console for retail games then I'm not sure if PS+ is still compatible, I assume not?

There was a lad who moved to my high school after immigrating from Lebanon; and he didn't even realize that people paid for games. He brought his Playstation 3 and PSP with him. He'd bring his PSP into school with a shit load of downloaded titles, and was confused when people would ask how he got them - he just thought it was normal. He didn't have access to retail games where he lived, this was the only method of getting them he said. I'm not claiming this anecdotal evidence as authority by the way, but my understanding is that this case is genuine and also prevalent in other countries.

Your making the assumption that wherever he lives has the same access and pricing to games that we have here in the West. I'm confident that there are plenty of places where this isn't possible, even through ordering online.

And to Weaste, I'm not sure you can claim that downloading other forms of entertainment is more morally acceptable than games due to their pricing system. I'm not sure why their pay structure is relevant in terms of ethics, it seems like anybody who uses this reasoning is abusing the structures of each individual system in order to justify their actions.

Waiting to see an "after" picture when it eventually over-heats and dies.

I see all of those prattling on about failures don't bother to post anything when Sony makes a statement on the issue.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24987718

Sony has published a troubleshooting guide for users experiencing problems with the new PlayStation 4.

Some users have complained about a blue light continuously flashing on their consoles, affecting its operation.

Sony said this could be triggered by various issues, including a problem with the PS4's power supply, hard drive or hardware or TV compatibility.

The PS4 is Sony's latest gaming console. It sold more than one million units within 24 hours of its US launch.

The company said the number of systems affected by the issue represented less than 0.4% of units shipped to date.

"This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive," Sony said in a statement.

'Isolated incidents'

Some of the users highlighted the issues on Sony's US PlayStation forum.

"My PS4 turns on, blinks blue, turns white and won't connect to my TV," posted a user by the name of Newender.

Another user, Juggalugalotus, said: "Mine just blinks blue and I don't get any audio or video. Tried all four of my HDMI cables and checked all of the settings on the TV. Nothing.

"Basically we bought a $400 [£250] paperweight."

Sony said it was "closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents".

According to Sony, some of the problems associated with the blinking of the blue light could include no audio or video output to the TV and the console powering off.

The company has recommended that users facing such issues turn off the console completely by pressing the power button for seven seconds.

It has also advised users to make sure that the hard drive "is properly seated" in its bay, saying a loose connection can prevent the console from powering on completely.

Why do they get delirious about it too? "Basically we bought a $400 [£250] paperweight." Yeah because Sony won't fix/replace it for free will they? It's silly.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/11/19/ps4-system-software-update-1-51-coming-soon/

Playstation Blog said:
Later today, the next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.51) will be available. With this minor required update, stability of system software has been improved. In addition, minor refinements to elements of the system UI (such as clearly indicating when a user downloads a game and a game patch at the same time) have been introduced.

In the North American region, automatic downloads for system and game updates are enabled by default when PS4 is in stand-by mode. Once system software update 1.51 is available later tonight, your PS4 will automatically download it, enabling you to update quickly and easily.

At this rate by the time the console is out here it will be completely different to the one that launched in America

I will be getting mine at midnight. I will just leave it all updating and it should hopefully be ready in the morning

I'm still unsure about what two games I'm going to buy for the PS4.

Battlefield 4 and Fifa 14 sound the most logical choices at the moment though, going by reviews.

Just an FYI, at this point in time battlefield 4 barely works. No conquest mode, constant crashes and glitches with single player saves. I'm sure it'll all get patched up, hopefully before the euro release. But right now, it's essentially unplayable.

When it does work though, it's fantastic.

Yeah I'm holding off on BF4 until EA/DICE get their shit together.

Someone on the gaf who works for them reckons GAME are charging £59.99 for new games, don't know how true that is but I would never put it past them.
