Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

In the hole on the left hand side, between the slits!

Can you see it?

Things that are integrated into the console from the start are going to have a larger audience who have the device, obviously, and therefore a bigger marketpool. So in theory by bundling Kinect with the Xbox, developers should be leaping at the chance to develop for it.

Just like the 6-axis on the PS3 controller and the PSP-PS3 connectivity...

Does anyone know if games will be available for download on release days?

Does anyone know when they will actually tell us the release date?

I'm almost falling for suggestion of console shortages. Even though companies tend to say that to increase demand.

Kinect seemed to do well enough! Don't talk shite! PSP remote play needed the develooper to implement it, on PS4 that is not the case.

:) You see...I mentioned in the Xbox thread that it'd be great not having to change discs, then I realized you didn't have to do that this gen when they were downloaded (although rarely available on release).

PS4 I believe treats discs in the same way as downloads (it does install them onto the HDD - which is thankfully swappable), but you will need the disc in the slot. Is it so difficult in 2013 to swap a disc? Have we all become lazy bastards?

Shamefully...yes, although it's also good not having to pre-order/go to the shops.

VITA is an example of what Sony is doing. Almost all VITA games are on the PS Store on the day of release (I think that Sony said that 65% of all VITA sales are through the PS Store), you can even pre-order them, and download them well before-hand, and then they become active on release day. Many PS3 games are also like this.

PS4 has earned great support from a wide variety of game publishers, including many
indie developers. Since February 2013, the number of developers joining has increased from
126 to 505

Sony has all the right tools now to dominate the next generation. Of course, this is before the next generation has even begun and there is a lot of time to feck things up.

I doubt that Sony is going to feck this up, it's very very important for them as an electronics company now. They really need the PS4 to be successful, and they are going the right way about it. Shame that they could not stick the Cell in there, but I'm not Mark cuntbreath Cerney.

We are all on a Cerny Journey, strap in.

Here is the spec sheet if nobody has seen it.

And something that stands out --->

Since February 2013, the number of developers joining has increased from 126 to 505. Furthermore, from SCE Worldwide Studios, more than 30 titles, including 12 brand new IP, are under development.... Out of over the 30 titles under development, 20 titles will be available within a year from the PS4 launch.

That's quite spectacular since they have a load of 1st party developers going nuts with PS3 this year.

Sony have 17 first party studios and 1 2nd party studio

True, but few are focused on Vita development, few are just technology developers and then you have other houses like London who have been stuck making stuff like wonderbook and singstar.

That's true, but enough for 20 first party titles in the first year?. We'll see.

The new controller is getting great reviews from various sources. It's apparently heavier, bigger and has snappier triggers.

Not to mention the share button.

Still not sure where to pre-order from, all those cashback sites are pretty shit, 2% on consoles :/ still a bit of money towards a new game later down the line.

Toys R Us have it at £334.99 at the minute.

Makes it easier for me switching from Xbox controller. If the analog sticks are stiffened up a bit aswell, that would be icing on the cake

To be honest, I'd wait and have a look around at the bundles which become available seeing as you'll need games etc to use the console anyway. It's likely that you'll save some money by doing this.

True, wonder when they'll start showing and pricing the bundles. I also have a feeling PS4 is going to be a December launch :/ Otherwise they'd have said "November" surely.

I'll probably just get the ps4 + one game + ps plus to start with then go from there.. don't really want to spend mental straight away.

If I do go through with my launch pre-order, I'll definitely be getting Watchdogs and likely Killzone Shadowfall and Assassin's Creed IV as well. Not sure exactly when Infamous comes out but that's on my list as well. I'll definitely check out Driveclub as well at some point.

If you get PS+ you get DriveClub (albeit with some content removed) for free, as well as Resogun. You get a free 2 week trial at PS4 release but its well worth getting, I'd imagine most will for the multiplayer anyway but its a bargain long term.
