This gen, messing around with memory up to 8 (maybe a little higher) would change things.

You are confusing a closed system console with an open PC. Games aren't limited to what they use on a PC! That's why you can play PS3 level games on a PC with less memory, just as much as you can play them on a system with more. I think this is where you are getting confused.

I think the problem is you think I'm saying that PC RAM is the same as PS3 RAM. I'm not. What I am saying though, is that current gen games are limited; that they try to be made to run well on a PC with 3gb of RAM free. I have never said anywhere that 3gb of RAM on a PC translates to 3gb or 2gb or 1gb of RAM on a console. It's, presumably, not that easy.
So what I am saying is that, dropping from 16gb to 8gb of RAM on PC wouldn't make any difference to running one current gen game. Dropping from 8gb to 4gb on a PC would make virtually no difference to running one current gen game. Dropping from 4gb to 2gb would render many games unrunable.

I don't read gaming sites. At all. Pretty much all I read is redcafe these days. I'm not a big gamer. I'm barely a gamer at all. I don't have a clue what neogaf or eurogamer is, I've never been on them.

You really haven't grasped what RAM actually does, you still think it's use is limited! And I've even given a couple of examples back in this thread and last night of a particular reason for the change!
You just don't seem to beable to accept anything. But you are completely wrong if you think that on the PS4 going from 4 to 8gb of memory won't make a difference, this is what you started off by saying and this is still wrong.
You can think what else you like about it, and you can argue all you want, but you don't understand the basics of it and with your attitude to trying to prove me wrong instead of learning for yourself, why the feck do you think I'd tell you?
Oh and typing out replies in here is a lot quicker than giving you a lecture on video games, how they are structured and their use of memory and why bandwidth and speeds and all that are so important. I certainly didn't learn it overnight.
