Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

It's terrible, and yes it was a port. The game was Gamecube exclusive for nearly a year then the PS2 version came out with completely different (and vastly downgraded) assets and few of the effects enabled. Then the HD port took that version, for whatever bizarre reason, and merely changed the resolution of everything.

As such, it lost a lot of atmosphere and crucially gameplay timing that made the GCN version the ultimate to this day. The Wii version is from the GCN version, however some argue the motion controls make it a little too easy. I agree, but if you've cleared it as much as I have, they also add a different dimension and made it playable again. I own the HD updates on the 360 and PC, plus I've recently tried the PS4 version, and they all frankly suck.

Still, every version is better than 5 & 6.
Ignorance is bliss I guess

Tell me about it. Those motherfeckers were ridiculously tough to kill too!
You're casually shooting them thinking just another zombie, then they start getting closer while walking though your bullets and you start to panic, then it's oh shit game over.

It's more the old fanboy thing of I loved that game with a passion and was the only Gamecube owner I knew at the time among friends and then all of a sudden they started talking about this great game, then when I saw it I was amazed at just how shite it looked

Found this video which highlights exactly what I'm talking about.

Notice the GCN and Wii versions have better lighting and particles, the PS2 version is dark and blurred then the 'HD versions' take the low res textures and shite geometry (as seen on the bridge, for example) from the PS2 and merely scale the resolution. At least the PS4/XBone versions change textures, but it's still a washed out mess of lighting and lack of effects.

/end angrynerdrant.

I have to play this again now. Funnily enough, god's honest truth, me and the missus were talking about winning the lottery and what we'd build the other day, and I honestly came up with the first church bit from RE4 where you have the three lights you need to shine on the alter. feck knows where it came from, but her only problem with that was there's not a lot of rooms in that little church. Nothing about the crows, creepy graveyard or zombies. Keeper!

I had RE4 on the ps2 and it was great. It was the first of the series to adopt the over the shoulder perspective. This was a game changer imo as it replaced the clunky controls and camera angles that plagued the first 3 games.
RE5 and 6 were more of the same, but with better visuals and tighter controls as they were on the ps3.

They may not hold up as well today, but I’m eager to play through RE4 again, especially in HD.

There is a level where you have to survive for either 5 or 10 minutes in this village location where it’s flooded with zombies and these fecked up things with sacks over their heads that chase you around with chainsaws :D

So the bundle is worth buying, i gjess.
Thanks for the reply mate.

Yeah F1 is quite complex and you really need to get involved to fully enjoy it.

I know and thats my problem. I love F1 and all its technical bells and whistles but dont have time to devote to that level of involvement in a game these days.

It is an awesome idea though in the game.

Actually finding the Battlefield 1 campaign really enjoyable. Was an unwanted old Christmas present but I was at a loose end and...yeah. Lot of fun.

Just turned the ps4 on and it said can't turn on connect usb to controller and press ps button so I did, then it told me to insert a storage device with version 5.0 or something? Restarted it and it works as normal. Is my ps4 about to be bricked?

Probably something wrong with the HDD, but seems sorted now. Would just make sure your saves are stored on the PS cloud or on a USB device.

I've played over 600 hours of Battlefield 1 and haven't done a single mission in the campaign

Get online lad!

I think I'm going to be extra wary of any new AAA multiplayer games that interest me on the horizon and beyond if this is the kind of shite that going to be pulled in the industry. It still remains to be seen if the big publishers are going to learn anything from the backlash to Star Wars Battlefront II and the deserved shit Destiny 2 is getting at the minute. I fully expect them to go full steam ahead with this type of bollocks though, and if they do I'll be doing my best to stay well away from those games.

Avoid EA and Activision and you should be okay. Hopefully, enough people do so that they reconsider this kind of bullshit. Doubtful, though.

Unfortunately these two publishers attract the casual market so their sales wouldn't be affected too much.

Activision bought out Blizzard and we are now starting to see their influence in the pricing model on Hearthstone.

Persona 3 remake? Do you mean Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night? I haven’t heard any confirmation that Atlus is working on a remake of P3. I’d love that to happen though.

I played two of the betas. I don't get it. Find footsteps, follow trail, bash monster before time runs out.

Just finished Overcooked with the wife

It's pretty much the greatest game ever
Such a great, simple game. Completed over Christmas with the Mrs.

Just downloaded Don't Starve Together, which is pretty cool. Basically a couch co-op survival game, have to collect wood, rock etc. build fires by night time, gather food. I don't think there is any end goal, just see how long you survive

Excellent, I'll get that, I'm always on the hunt for decent couch co-op games.

Shadow of the Colossus remake getting rave reviews. It does look amazing to be fair, and on top of that they've remapped the controls slightly, which makes sense.

I'm going to need to buy a ps4 for this, one of my favourite games of all time

Wait, is the main story really only like 8 hours long?

I'm not sure how I'd feel about paying €30e for a re-re-master of a 10 year old, 2 generation old game that's only 8 hours long, no matter how much of a classic it is!

Anyone had issues with buying stuff on Playstation Network recently. I'm constantly getting a message saying we've encountered an error, try again later. Have used my cards, used my paypal account and still the same result.

Tried to call their helpline but keep getting cut off before speaking with anyone.

Alright so I'm not feeling like spending on a new game despite having a long list of games I need to play.

So how would you rate the following PS plus titles?

Just cause 3
Tales of the borderland
Until dawn
Child of light
Assassins Cree black flag

Am I the only one who doesn't think 8 hours is a particularly short length? Maybe I'm biased here because I've replayed SotC at least three times but for me that's the perfect length for a game. If they're genuinely great games then they often have a lot of replay value.

Something I've noticed with this generation of games is that I get very easily bored with 30 hour quests padded with side-quests and collectathons. With a few exceptions - like the Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild - they're more often than not scrapping the bottom of the barrel in terms of content. I don't think it's very good game design, although it might be good bang for your buck.

When all is said and done, Shadow of the Colossus comes from an age where AAA games had more in common with movies in that they wanted to be straightforward narrative-driven experiences. It makes me quite nostalgic and it's an absolutely brilliant game to boot.

But don't get me wrong. I'm not about to stump up the cash for it on release either.

Yup I remember replaying the first MGS over and over again. Bought for 40 quid and 6 hrs long give or take... Money well spent. If a game is done well then short length is ok for me although I'm less likely to pay RRP for it nowadays.

Same issue with VR games, people bitch about length all the time but a 4+ hr story is enough for me if the game is done well. VR gaming sessions are shorter on average anyway...

I usually have one grindy game on the go anyway, if every game was grindy and/or really long I'd never finish any of them.

Never played SotC before, now seems like a good time.

Ni Nu Kuni is coming to PC so it's not a ps4 exclusive.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is also going to be on Xbone.

Dunno where you're getting six hours from, MGS was about 12+ hours minimum, which has always been about right length-wise for a linear single player adventure game.

Experience mate, trust me it can be completed in 6 hours. Don't even think it took me more than 10 hrs on my first attempt. Loved that game....

Eh?

I had a look on how long to beat what the average time was and it was 11 hours unless you were speedrunner. What MGS were you playing?
