Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Never mind the Pro. I’ve been playing NBA2k17 and FIFA18 on a bog standard 500Gb slim version most of the day. Admittedly, last time I played any kind of console was a PS3 but this knocked my socks off. Graphics and game play off the charts. What a time to be alive!
This the thing all this crowing about 4k, graphics look good enough. How much better can they get? I used to have a zx spectrum...

Got a new slim ps4 today as my current one has a problem keeping cool. Admittedly its not in the best ventilated area, but its been on the wain for a while and it survived a mighty drop 6 months ago, so i think its best.

Man in the shop told my partner that theres a new one coming out in January i might want to save myself for instead? I tried googling new PS4 but nothings come up. Its not a Pro PS4 but I don’t have a 4k TV and don’t plan on getting one any time soon, so I’m assuming there’s little point in upgrading to the pro

Anyone know of a good accessory that could (ideally) hold all of: PS4, controller and PSVR headset/processor unit and move controllers? Also, anyone know of a good accessory to attach the camera to something? The accessory that came with the camera doesn't keep still for me.

Huge January sale on now in the store.

Anything worth getting? I've basically only played Persona 5 on my PS4. Thinking of buying Bloodborne (Complete edition probably) and Uncharted 4.

I use Blu-tac (Honestly :) )

It better than the Dark souls series? Recently just clocked DS3 and enjoyed it.

Bloodborne is still my favourite PlayStation exclusive. It's a phenomenal game. If you like the Dark Souls and Demon Souls games then i see no reason why you would dislike this.

It's a slightly faster pace than the Dark Souls games which i happen to prefer. One of my favourite games i platinumed

Couldn’t turn down the GTA trilogy for £11.50, snagged it last night. Always good for a rainy day.

Also, anyone else only noticed that they’ve rereleased LA Noire for PS4? Gonna keep that in mind for when all other titles dry up.

Got Bloodborne. Disappointed with the framerate in it. I'm used to 60 fps PC gaming. Would it run better if I had a Pro?

It benefits from the so called boost mode. But I ain’t played it this year to see if it has made any significant difference to how it runs. Maybe @The Bloody-Nine has.

But I can’t see a 60fps patch or update coming due to the multiplayer. Sony want all online games to run equal for both consoles.

Haven't played it in well over a year. I doubt there's much of a difference.

Not true 60fps, but it's noticeably better.

Was going to buy F1 2017 instore the other day for €40. Passed on it because I didnt have time to queue. Saw its €30 on the PS store earlier so was seriously considering it when I saw that I could try the demo for free. So downloaded that and it basically gives you the first race in career mode and that was enough to put me off buying it for now. Far too detailed and involving for just a quick game here and there (all I have time for). You basically have all this first person stuff in between each race session to deal with is super detailed with race strategy and car set ups. I don't mind the car set ups etc. (It is a F1 sim after all and I like F1) but the first person stuff was jarring. The racing part was fun though.

January sale looks pretty decent, anyone got any recommendations?
Already planned to buy about 10 of the games, but open for suggestions :)

Not fps, noone normal can play fps on console and think it's good.

Yeah F1 is quite complex and you really need to get involved to fully enjoy it.

There is a mega man 1-6 collection pack for about £6 on the store. Great value if your looking for some 8 bit nostalgia!

There’s a resident evil 4,5 and 6 bundle for about £16 as well. Physical copies are selling for 15 each on amazon so a great deal!

Was thinking about buying 7, heard it's great (by someone playing it in VR), but never tried any Resident evil before, they are worth buying?
Thinking about it, i might have tried nr 1 back in the days before half the Caf members were born, but can't say 8 remember much.

I had RE4 on the ps2 and it was great. It was the first of the series to adopt the over the shoulder perspective. This was a game changer imo as it replaced the clunky controls and camera angles that plagued the first 3 games.
RE5 and 6 were more of the same, but with better visuals and tighter controls as they were on the ps3.

They may not hold up as well today, but I’m eager to play through RE4 again, especially in HD.

There is a level where you have to survive for either 5 or 10 minutes in this village location where it’s flooded with zombies and these fecked up things with sacks over their heads that chase you around with chainsaws :D

The HD version was shite if you already played it on the Gamecube. It was strangely based on the dire PS2 port and barely worth the bother.

The Wii version on the other hand, well that just made it even better.

PS2 version was a port? I loved that game, had no problems with it

RE4 was incredible. I was about 15 when it came out and had to play music to drown out the noises of some of the monsters though, fecking terrifying!

I heard that the GameCube had the definitive version but never played it. I loved the ps2 version though.

I didn’t realise that it was re-released on the Wii. I can imagine that the games shooting mechanics would be perfect with the motion controls though.

It's terrible, and yes it was a port. The game was Gamecube exclusive for nearly a year then the PS2 version came out with completely different (and vastly downgraded) assets and few of the effects enabled. Then the HD port took that version, for whatever bizarre reason, and merely changed the resolution of everything.

As such, it lost a lot of atmosphere and crucially gameplay timing that made the GCN version the ultimate to this day. The Wii version is from the GCN version, however some argue the motion controls make it a little too easy. I agree, but if you've cleared it as much as I have, they also add a different dimension and made it playable again. I own the HD updates on the 360 and PC, plus I've recently tried the PS4 version, and they all frankly suck.

Still, every version is better than 5 & 6.
