Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Can i just ask, if anybody are as bothered with the loading times on the PS4 as me? A single BF1 match easily takes upwards five minutes to get into from launch
Is that the PS4's fault though? I find it's DICE's servers that are slow when matchmaking.

It also heavily apply to titles like The Witcher, GTA V and Rocket League. The loading times on the PS is astonishing when comparing to PC versions. If it just applied to cross platform games it was kind of understandable, but even a game like Destiny can be dreadful at certain loads. And if something kills my mood, it's loading screens.

With the prices you guys are offering for your used PS4's I'd bite your hands off. But the cost of bringing it to my country will probably be almost as costly as the game itself

Unravel is well worth a buy at 5 euros. It looks gorgeous and the puzzles are of just about appropriate difficulty that it doesn't feel too easy.

Is the 1TB version a must have over the 500gb?

I've finally decided to bite the bullet and get one because I want to stop drinking so much! Argos have the 500gb with an extra controller and Horizon Zero Dawn for €249 which seems like an excellent deal. Alternatively I could get the 1TB with Horizon, Unchartered 4 but only one controller for €319.

What's the best deal there? I'm not going to have loads of games so will the 500gb be enough?

With the new firmware update that will probably be launched this month, you will be able to use any external HDD to store applications and games - something you have not been able to do before. It is easy to upgrade the internal HDD, but copying data over takes a long time, plus you are limited to a 2.5" HDD. With this new update, you could use any external HDD up to 8TB in size (and since these usually use 3.5" HDD, then you get more storage for your money).

So the size of the internal drive is less of an issue that it used to be. I just bought a PS4 Pro with the 1TB drive (I had added a 2TB drive to my previous PS4) so now I am just going to get a 3 or 4 TB external drive and transfer games to that.

BTW a typical game will be 30 - 50 GB in size - and even if you buy the game on disc, it will still need to be installed to the HDD.

Thanks that's very handy info. I'm tempted to go with the 500gb one. Saw this morning that I can get the console, 2 controllers, Horizon, The Last of Us and The Division for €297

I'm really looking forward to the 3D films via PSVR feature. Anyone who's tried a game on vr and seen the splash screens will know why, it's like a personal cinema.

Also boost mode, because I'm holding off on Bloodborne for it.

There are some nice discounts on the PSstore.

I got: Bastion, Brothers, Child of Light, Inside, Salt & Sanctuary - for a combined 30 euros.

Right so I just bought a second PS4 for upstairs use while the wife is on the main TV.

I'm transferring my data from the downstairs one to the new one using my home network and this is about an hour into a 12 hour process.

My question is this, will my two machines continue to synchronize in terms of my saved games? That is, if I do some Witcher 3 downstairs and save, then go upstairs, will my progress be available to me or do I have to manually synch it first?

You can set it to save to the online storage so as long as you sign into your psn account on the console it will save online, then if you log off that console and into the other one it will have the progress saved go your account so yes, you can sync saves between machines.

Excellent thanks. I'm only using one account across both machines and will never be attempting to use both at the same time on the same account so hopefully this will work out fine.

Just make sure in options that they're set to save to the online storage, think it is by default anyway.

Loving being able to change your background - this is my one - I took this pic in Horizon Zero Dawn. It was taken in photo mode, but I didn't even adjust the time or any of the settings - this was just how I happened upon this view while playing the game:

I've hooked a 1TB external drive and I'm really happy with the results. I didn't get anything fancy, just a £50 drive and while it has taken a while to move everything from the PS4 drive to it, there's no real delay in loading games etc. It also means I can have ALL my games on there.

Well worth the investment if you have a sizeable library of games.

Can someone please help me, this is so annoying.

A friend of mine got a PS4 a month ago, we play battlefield together. He'll be in a party with me and in the server and randomly disconnected from the server and the party in the middle of the online session. Within seconds he's back in the party and has to rejoin the game (losing all his score and waiting in queues). He's changed ISPs and its still the same. Can anyone help please?

Tell him to check his port forwarding and assign the IP statically. Do a network test on PS4 under Settings->Network. Ideally you want it to return NAT Type 2, if it's NAT Type 3 he's got a firewall or something restricting his connection.

His internet is Nat type 2. Which IP do you mean, does he get a fixed IP for his connection or he assigns a fixed IP for the PS4? If it's the later, how does he do it?

If his NAT Type is 2 already it's unlikely to be an IP or Port issue. Does his internet just cut out intermittently? Was he given a new router with the new ISP? Does he have filters in all the phone lines or has he had the special socket fitted which separates the phone/broadband lines?

It's not a phone line internet. It's direct cable from an ISP. He's using his own router.

With all the shit remasters that come out these days...I find it annoying Sony wont bring Demon Souls to the PS4. I bet there's loads of people who never played it on PS3 and are now into Dark Souls/Bloodborne so would buy it

What are the best single player games for the PS4 these days?

Horizon - Zero Dawn

From what I've played so far;

Bloodborne
Uncharted 4
The Last Guardian
Nioh
The Witcher 3
Metal Gear Solid V
Batman: Arkham Knight

Multiplayer: Rocket League (Fecking Brilliant Game), Battlefiled 1

Cheap But Great Games: Inside, SOMA

If you didn't play these on PS3: The Last of Us Remastered (Absolute must!), Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Grand Theft Auto V

Also, if you already haven't tried it: Ark is pretty neat if you are into those kind of games. It should be mentioned it's early access so there are bugs

It's minecraft meets survival sprinkled with dinosaurs. If you decide to try it though: DO NOT play on the official , they are super packed and it leads to a whole host of problems. Find a nice dedicated server instead

Running out of space on my PS4. It's telling me I have to free up another 30GB before I can install Uncharted 4. I have a tendency to go back playing games I've passed months/years later so I'm torn as to what game(s) to delete. If I delete a game from the hard drive will the saved data from it remain so that if I reinstalled it I could just carrying on as if I never deleted it in the first place? Thanks in advance for any help!

Your save data should be separate from game data and as such save data should stay when you remove a game. However, i would backup your save data. You can do this via ps plus cloud and i think on usb stick. When you reinstall a game the saves should still work, but i have never done this so not 100% sure. Why dont you get an external hdd? Save having to download updates again in the future.

If you have PS plus you can backup your saved games on cloud. That way when you reinstall the game, you can restore the save games. Also, maybe an external hdd to install your games would be the best solution for you.
