Exactly. So irritating when that happens. Always waited with The consoles and PS Vita and got the later models. I can wait till Jan.

We should stress once again that final numbers on this - plus any differences in game performance (we are not expecting any) will have to wait until a retail unit sits in the Digital Foundry office.

Overall, we've only had a very short amount of time with the revised PlayStation 4 so far and we're eager to hammer down the results once we have a system in the office, but the outlook is very promising. The console is smaller and more discrete, but this hasn't resulted in any kind of noticeable compromise to system performance. The key litmus test is this: given the choice between a brand new PS4 Slim and the existing CUH-1200 model, which one would I pick? Well, based on the couple of hours spent with the new hardware, it's a no-brainer - the new PS4 is a winner. Fundamentally, it addresses one of the weakest points of the current generation PlayStation 4 - the noise level: it appears to be significantly quieter in many scenarios. In fact, in the tests we ran using digital content (ie no BD drive noise), it's up there with the original Xbox One and marginally quieter than the Xbox One S. We'll update with more metrics once we have the hardware in hand, but right now, this tidy little unit looks like a really impressive revision.

Unless my current PS4 busts I won't be in a rush to upgrade. Will wait til it's cheaper IMO. Think they will suffer with sales and drop prices pretty quick.
 
I can't think of one significant reason to upgrade from the normal ps4 as opposed to buying the new Xbox unless you're a huge Sony/PlayStation fan.

The Scorpio? well that's at least one year away, wouldn't be surprised if its more honestly, thats a long time to wait. Sony with the VR and Pro in a years time will be light years ahead of microsoft.

The Xbox One S looks decent at the moment but ultra blu ray aside it will be on the verge of old tech next year with 2 more powerful consoles on the market.

Microsoft won't want to wait too long - the longer they leave it the more sales they could be losing out to the Pro...

I have a PC. I have played everything I want to so far.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this gen is totally shit gaming wise, I'm merely saying neither machine has really given me a reason to get one early rather than wait for the inevitable upgrades. For me that's depressing as you know I've always just HAD to have the latest thing out. Combined with the actual shiteness of the hardware, and it's a generation I could actually wait on. I don't blame others for their choice though, it's not as if either machine are devoid of good games.

Maybe I'm just getting old :( Though to counter that, I'm kind of excited that I do get a cheap back catalogue to play if and when I do get the upgrades :drool:

The worst thing is Sony are the ones who are talking about doing this for their games.
 
After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.

We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.

Anyone reckon the current model will drop in price any more? A 500GB seems to be about £250 at the moment and I don't want to buy one and it drop in price in a couple of weeks.

The Slim is £250. The current model is going to be phased out, so I expect shops to clear out stock of the current model.

So you could see it for £200.

It's about time the ps4 had a decent racing game similar to Mario kart ... They're just so much fun without being serious.
 
4.0 is an excellent update. The new quick menu in particular, so handy.

I arranged mine into the rather boring but tidy 'Currently Playing' 'Backlog' & 'Apps'

I wish you could sort your friends list and give people on their nicknames... I get confused with some people with different names on psn than the caf.

That's a good shout actually - agree regarding caf names. Why can't more people just use the same? ;)

Mine is nearly the same.
 
Has anyone installed a new hd into the ps4? I bought a 2tb drive off amazon today which I'll have by Friday

It's a seagate external which I'm gonna break open and take the drive out. Looks easy on YouTube :nervous:

It's really simple, just a few screws. I had more trouble getting the new hard drive out of its external case

Yeah, I did the same trick using seagate external. My original hdd is now acting as a pvr on my tv. Its piss easy.

The dread comes when copying files across; that takes ages. What I would say is delete games you have on disk to reduce transfer times.
