Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Finished black flag the other day, hardly done any side missions as there is too much to do, found it a bit of a chore. Also found it hard to make money, in the past you had things like banks that made you money over time. Don't think I upgraded any of my weapons during the game.

Am I the only one who thinks Destiny looks like a steaming pile of shit?

The graphics are great in game, a lot of pictures don't do it justice and they have the core gameplay nailed down (so far from what I played). I think it will do really well, crazy decision to skip the PC market though if anything it's a game built for PC.

Yeah Destiny is one of those games where the images or videos don't do it a great service, I felt very much the same before playing the alpha. Gameplay is fantastic and if its done well the looting/strike/raids will be a ton of fun, I think my enjoyment overall with that game will come down to the amount of content in it, I know they will DLC the feck out of it but the core game has to be substantial too.

Didn't they say that the alpha was less than 10% of the full game? So, 9% then! From that you can hazard a guess at the amount of content in the shipped game.

Yeah some dev tweeted that right? For an alpha it was fairly substantial and you never know if they might bump the levelling speed, probably get a better read on scale from the beta.

Killzone shadowfall isn't worth it, its just a graphical experiment with no thought put into the story. Gunplay isn't fun either, for me.

Fifa 14 is a must if you're into football games, it's being hated for no reason, it's a great game on manual settings and I love how the matches flow and goals feel satisfying.

Tomb raider is good, not a must if you have played it earlier. Same for the black flag.

Undecided on Infamous, I think gameplay is pretty enjoyable but it just isn't a great game.

Killzone Shadowfall was a massive disappointment, was really looking forward to it, especially since Killzone Mercenary was so brilliant on the Vita.

I'm not a fan of Halo but I really did enjoy the Destiny Alpha. It'll be a game I'll play with my two brothers, we love co-op games like Destiny.

Aye. It was just an eye candy but I didn't like the art style, it was too clean/bland at times.

The PS Now Beta prices...

Here’s a list of some of the titles and how much it will cost to rent each of them (prices are ordered by rental periods of 4 Hours, 7 Days, 30 Days, and 90 Days):

  • BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger – $2.99, $4.99, $6.99, $11.99
  • Crazy Taxi – $2.99, $3.99, $5.99, $7.99
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution Ultimate Edition – $4.99, $6.99, $14.99, $29.99
  • Enslaved: Odyssey to the West – $2.99, $5.99, $7.99, $14.99
  • Final Fantasy XIII – $2.99, $5.99, $7.99, $14.99
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2 – $4.99, $7.99, $14.99, $29.99
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 – $2.99, $5.99, $7.99, $14.99
  • Saints Row: The Third – The Full Package – $4.99 (4 Hours), $29.99 (90 Days)
Sony has added prices to the beta for their PlayStation Now streaming service, and though these are experimental numbers—it's a beta, after all—the current prices are insane.12

What's more, as of right now, PS Now beta testers actually have to pay to play games. If I want to test out the service, I have to dish out crazy amounts of cash.

This afternoon I signed up for the PS Now beta, which Steve tested out yesterday. And here's how much it costs to rent Final Fantasy XIII-2, which came out in 2012:

$5 for four hours! $30 for 90 days! You can buy the whole game on Amazon for $17.4

And here's Guacamelee:

Why do you have to pay $15 for a 90-day rental when it costs $15 to buy the game on PS3?6

Other games cost similar prices, which seem to be based on when they came out.

There's a little note on the bottom of PlayStation Now that reads: "Game titles and features shown are for testing purposes only. Not indicative of the final price." But anyone who's in the beta right now has to pay these prices. I just tried to rent Deus Ex: Human Revolution and had to pay $4.99 for four hours of the privilege.

And it looks like prices like this could be here to stay. From the PS Now FAQ: "The upcoming Open Beta will test multiple pricing tiers and rental durations. You will see shorter rental periods prices as low as $2.99 and most titles are between that and $19.99. More information to be announced later."

Granted, Sony has promised that they'll be offering some sort of subscription program when the service actually launches, but at least for now, don't bother with the PS Now beta unless you've got a fat wallet.

You can buy them used, in good condition, from Amazon for a fraction of those prices. That's what I do.

A quasi modern take on old school Wolfenstein, with a quality story line and actual characters.
Only got it half an hour before the football, so I've only fecked about with the start, but so far, looks like an excellent shout, cheers!

Since I haven't done much, can't note too much but, that Scot pilot looks suspiciously like Hugh Laurie, ammo seems hard to come by so far, and easy to spend, I like the feel of the game, you don't seem to move like some super human that happens in too many FPS games, and the general feel of trying to survive and get by the levels, rather than "ooh, how many can I kill before I end the level".

I found it surprisingly difficult in a few spots. 'Stuck in the same place for an hour' difficult. That was on medium.

Still thought it was excellent overall.

I nearly made a tit of myself in GAME today. I saw Wolfenstein for £25 and thought "that's a cracking price I'll have that". I walked up to the till and noticed underneath the price was written WBWUFC. I quickly realised this meant when bought with UFC and turned around and put it back on the shelf.

A bit naughty of GAME IMO as there was no normal price on the box at all.

I don't think I've seen anything of value in GAME shops for about 3 years, only really use it to grab PSN credit/PS+ when I'm in town. Still trying to get rid of credit and reward points I've had for 2 years because they sell nothing new at competitive prices.

Any news for GTA 5 for ps4?

Digital foundary says the trailer(captured on ps4) was running at 1080p.

Any news about fps? If this runs on 60 fps I will definitely buy it. I would still buy if it's 30 fps anyway. But it's hard to imagine that a ps4/xbone can run this on 60 fps.

I am a big MMA fan so was eagerly anticipating ea sports ufc. Really dissapointed with the demo, actually enjoyed it at first. The gameplay is not fun enough for me to spend my hard earned money on it when there are so many potentially great games coming out in the next few months.

Ps4 is boring me now, other than watchdogs there's not much I enjoy on it atm.

All depends on how good the order, destiny, driveclub, the division and bloodborne will be, but this waiting game is killing me now.

Although I somewhat share these thoughts, I honestly think we're just spoiled now days. Compared to other console generations, there's a lot of quality games out already. This was the first console I ever brought around launch, so the waiting game is a bit new to me, but I'm aware that it's till ridiculously early.

I bet it's 30fps on both.

Quality has improved in terms of presentations and polygon count obviously, but we haven't seen what the developers claimed that the new hardware will push the boundaries of how the game is played. We saw massive improvements in terms of gameplay during previous generations of consoles which we clearly aren't experiencing this time around.

Another problem with games being out is the lasting appeal i.e shorter campaigns and less content hence poor replayablity value.

Most of the games are somewhat rushed, no thought put into the stories like the previous years. More emphasis on online, with devs bragging about how big is the online community is which I don't give a shit about.
Or maybe be I'm not a kid anymore so I see things differently now.

I have 14 games, most indie but a few big title games. I got Second Son and Killzone included with the console. I enjoyed Second Son and completed it three times to get all the trophies and platinum trophy too. Killzone I didn't enjoy as much. It's pretty but I thought that was it. I didn't get the PS4 early enough so didn't get Resogun. Pity, I think I would enjoy it. Will get it when the expansion releases.

My first Indie was free on PSN+ called Dead Nation. Great little indie for what it is, a top down shoot em up. Second was Strike Suit Zero I think, didn't enjoy it much. Third was Stick It To The Man. Excellent little indie, a must get I would say. Mercenary Kings was ok, but I found it difficult to control. Coming from a PC background I struggled getting around in the game. Eventually started getting the hang but moved onto our better games. This month got Trine 2 and PixelJunk. Trine 2 is excellent and enjoy playing it in 3D. Only indie I have bought is Titan Attacks as it was on special. Enjoyed it for the short time I played it. Will get back to it sometime.

Free games. I got Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball 2. Arcade is like the classic tables from the old days. Zen 2 is better I think and it helps that it comes in 3D. Extra tables are a bit expensive I think. I played War Thunder in April for about two weeks and enjoyed it a lot however it's a pay for extras game and building up without paying is hard. Prices for the extras are too expensive as far as I am concerned.

Big name titles bought. Tomb Raider I got on 50% discount and it's an excellent game, currently the best looking on the PS4 I reckon. I also bought Injustice Gods Among Us also on discount as am also enjoying it. Watch Dogs was bought at full price and it is currently the game I play the most as it has a huge sandbox gameplay and as far as I am concerned, it is built for console.

Games I haven't bought but might in the future. Contrast, looks great however I did get this on PC and enjoyed it. Child of Light, got on PC but think the console would be a better fit. Transistor, looks like a cool indie. Wouldn't mind getting it soon.

Future games, The Last Of Us. Since this is my first console, I missed out on a few great PS3 games. Glad it's coming to the PS4. Driveclub could be interesting but would love GT6/7 instead.

I preferred playing Wolfenstein on PC, I believe first person shooters should stay on the PC. Same thing with BF4. Won't get them on the PS4.

I bet it's 30fps on both.

I think so too - although think that only the PS4 version will be 1080p - that resolution has been confirmed by R*, but they have not stated what the Xbox One will be, so I am assuming it will be lower.

Just one thing. I would call Housemarque an "indie". It's a studio of about 60 people. They are independent, as in not linked to a single publisher, but so is say Insomniac, Epic, CryTek, etc. These are normally called 2nd parties. Sony published Super Stardust HD, Dead Nation, Resogun, all Housemarque games where Sony owns the IP or at least those particular entries if not the name - none of those games can appear on other platforms. Ubisoft published Outland from them. Unless we are using "indie" to refer to non AAA games, they are not an "indie" studio.

Thanks, didn't know it's origin however it is a small game and one I could get through in a small amount of time hence it's like an indie and got the indie tag from me.

I suppose, for me, anything that isn't AAA could fall into the indie category if it's a quick play e.g. Resogun although I don't believe that it is an indie.

You're jumping the gun a bit here...

How? do you remember the Xbox 360's launch titles? they looked like shit and played like shit for the most part. Look at MotorStorm on the PS3 now and tell me it was a massive improvement.

The PS4 and Xbone have already produced some impressive games. Battlefield, Tomb Raider, Infamous and Watchdogs are among the games that really do look smashing. Especially compared to their last gen counterparts.

The leap between PS3 and PS4 is significant. I was on the 'not so great improvement' bandwagon until I popped GTA4 on my PS3 - it looks absolutely shit after playing on PS4 for the past few months.
