This really irks me. I don't even know how it has got that bad.
Seen a few people on the internet with something similar. I bought covers for them off amazon just in case, they seem to do the trick anyway.
That's nasty, surely Sony will have to replace these controllers. It's quite unacceptable, especially when they're £40+

There is either falty batches or you are using them in a weird way like digging your nails into them
Was thinking the same thing, just from the way its worn out mainly.
It's happened to too many controllers to simply be people not using them correctly since no other standard controller has ever had this particular issue.
I think it's a general fault with the controller, it seems to be massively widespread across regions and we're only a few months past launch. When I get a PS4 I'm getting some grips for it from the off.

I have two, had one since the 29th November, nothing wrong with it.
I must have played 200 games of Fifa by now which is very L3 intensive but I play no different to how I did on ps3 and the wear and tear took much longer.

It's actually surprisingly easy to fix as you don't have to disassemble the controller to take the button off. This worked for me

Ordered some cases. The wear on the anologue isn't too bad atm so hopefully it will hold out until the casing arrives and then I can pretend it never existed.
Seems too widespread from a little search online for it not to be classed as a design fault. It's not a major issue, but I question the sharpness of the plastic underneath as well as the thickness of the rubber on top..which in turn would be a design flaw.
There are at least 4.2 million of them out in the wild, it's not a design fault. There is nothing wrong with either of mine.
Rang Sony for the fun of it and was told it is a common fault which they will take responsibility for but I have to pay for postage and wait up to two weeks for a replacement.

It's not a design fault but there does seem to be quite a few breaking. Far more than the "blue light of death" problem, which can also probably be attributed to a bad batch.
Just based on impressions from reading online, and accounting for inevitable Internet exaggeration, I'd guess that the controller issue applies to more than 1 or 2 percent. Maybe more like 5.
Anyway you wan't to look at it you shouldn't have to be getting pads and faffing about like that, hopefully it was a bad batch or they'll need to tweak the design...

I was thinking of getting Killzone and Assassins Creed, and maybe Fifa, but I've decided to skip Fifa, have it on the 360, as do mates.
Not sure of the others tbh, think I'll leave Knack until it's free.

Assassins Creed 4 is excellent, really has surprised me and I didn't even buy the 3rd one.

I'll end up getting you in trouble one of these days!To be fair, it's not a half arsed effort from EA on the PS4, it runs so smoothly and the new engine it's running on is ace. Much smoother gameplay and some lovely animations.
It ran like shit on my 360, so I'm really glad that I picked it up for the PS4.

Inevitable.I can't speak for everyone, but there were bugs left, right and centre on my 360 version, it was a real mess, so it was worth the upgrade for me. It was an absolute treat going from the 360 to the PS4. I managed to trade it in for a reasonable price too.
Wouldn't mind directly upgrading, as I've read the carer is much faster, and I'd be able to play that from my Vita at times too, but in this case I'd be keeping it on the Xbox anyway just to play UT against my mates.
FIFA is considerably better on the next gen so if you enjoy football games you should definitely grab it.

I absolutely love football games, though, since getting it Football Manager has become my favourite.
I was afraid someone would mention 2k14, 2k13 was possibly the most ridiculous game I've ever played, in not only being quality, but had the presentation and feel of an actual NBA show nailed on.
Got Killzone and Assassins ordered, Fifa and 2k14 must be the next ones on my list.
