I'm surprised nobody has done a 'Jones Signs' thread yet...

Because that shit would get you banned/infracted.

PhilJones was probably taken. By either a fake account or the thousands of other Phillip Jones' that exist :p
My first attempt at an alternative nick was PhilJones92, and a quick search seems to say that that user name is not taken.

Edit: Never mind, I don't know how to use the search function.

Edit 2: It was obviously already taken, but come on, a little more imagination than resorting to leetspeak IMO. At least if you want to be perceived as someone who 'can spell'.

Evans will transition into a less versatile O'Shea, able to break into the team for long spells when other players are injured.

Phil Jones #mufc deal has hit a snag, we understand. #brfc value him at £25m despite clause being triggered at £16m. See him as Terry/Adams.

Don't really want to post this but.. Hmm..

They can do feck all can they not? There'd be no point of those types of clauses if teams could reject them.

Bullshit?

The clause means it doesnt matter what they value him at. Thats the entire purpose of the clause. As long as Jones wants to move, tough luck

If there is a clause there is feck all they can do about it even if they value him at 200 million.

That's either the laziest piece of journalism I've ever seen, or it's the stupidest thing from a club that I've ever seen.

If it's even true, that means that the only alternative for Blackburn would be to somehow get Jones to agree to a new contract without the release clause. Fat chance of that happening if he's completed his medical with us already.

Did you have to post this before my bedtime?

Phil Jones valued by Rovers at £25m, not £16m - ESPN Soccernet

Unusually, the player has already passed his medical and agreed personal terms with United, which normally means the clubs have agreed the fee but ESPNsoccernet has discovered that a clause in Jones' contract only triggers the player's ability to discuss a potential move with a club who offers £16 million rather than fully complete the deal. Rovers' hierachy's stance is that the deal is by no means done and they will hold out for more cash.

Erm... what?

This has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. If that is accepted, it would rather kill the whole release clause rule. 'You can talk to clubs if they meet it, but it doesn't mean we have to sell you for it.

But, then, the Blackburn owners are daft enough to think that.

probably some desperate RAWk fans.

a buyout clause is a clause, please refer to Figo from barca to madrid, equivalent of iniesta going to madrid, caused an uproar, but happened nonethless

How can a release clause be in place that will only allow you to speak to the player and agree terms?

We can do that to our players

"Yes Mourinho, Chicha's release clause is 30m, but you can only have a chat with him, you will have to pay 55m really"

Soccernet is shit, they report rumours from Goal.com as fact

However, if this turns out to be true, I just might kill somebody

Of course its not true, is that kind of thing even legal for a start? how can you write a release clause into someone's contract and yet be able to demand more when its met? it makes no sense and is utterly laughable.

If there's any truth to this story at all, I think Blackburn is just trying to drag out the matter, hopefully prompting us to pay a bit more just to speed up the transfer.

If we choose to see this through, I think we (or rather Jones) will most likely win the case against Blackburn. But they will make it as slow and painful as possible.
