Very happy with this signing, very versatile, tough player.

First match is on sat
Eng-Spain is on Sunday night

Video of Jones signing the united 09-10 home shirt on SSN.

saw it on SSN stream
no pics
was during the U21 training session.

Blackburn also made a huge effort to keep Jones, offering to beat United’s terms by making him the highest-paid player at Ewood Park on £50,000 a week

From the Daily Fail. If, by some miracle, it's true then I'm impressed. I started to think footballers never turn down more money.

It's also worth mentioning that long term he'll almost certainly make more at United if he does well.

A footballer doing long-term thinking? I'm more and more impressed.

You never the know, the chicken farm business is booming, could have given him a bigger contract down the line......

Yep.

Thing is, once you get into the realms of £40k p/w, the extra £10k doesn't make that much difference. He seems like a grounded lad, still living with his parents, and he's obviously had enough sense to realise that it's trophies and prestige, not money, that matter.

In an unrelated point, I've just read that he's 19. When did the footballers I support starting being younger than me :(

Keano turned down more money to sign for us didnt he.
I miss keane :(

SP: they've got their deals all signed, sealed and back on the training field
then the reporter asks if that means the deals are done, and he said its not his business and he wont comment on it

Jones booked 4 times in 26 games.

For a tough tackler and blocker in a shit team that indicates good judgement I think.

Actually Samba has 3 yellows & 1 red, in 33; and Nelson 4 yellows & 1 red in 28.
I'm sure those two used to get booked a lot more, so maybe Blackburn got a a bit wimpy last season.

Problem was, he was also played in MF too so I don't think we should really use his stats to compare him with any other Defenders.

Well lets be fair, 50 k to play for Blackburn or 40 or whatever to play at Manchester United?

Its with all due respect not a head scratching conundrum is it?

of course the £500.000 he loses over a year in wages - is probably well compensated for when bonuses for winning trophies are included :)

Seems impossible to find clips of him on Youtube. Just found that one of his performance against us, which is like 3 of four bits of play.

From all accounts he seems to be a very complete defender. So how quick is he?

Looks like he's at least got some decent speed in the video of the game against United when he gets across to the ball when Rooney outpaces the others.

But he's coming in from the side isn't he? The one where he half clears half passes the ball out of play?

hehe it's like when we met the release fee and there were rumors we'd throw in diouf..inspite of meeting the release clause. Don't think there's much doubt though that he's a united player pretty much now.

No. I dont see the relevence at all.

You think if the kid handed him a City shirt and said can you sign this please Phil, he'd say no because I might be moving to United?

Why would a kid hand him a City shirt to sign? Or a Scunthorpe shirt?

Because he didn't have an autograph book like the kid next to him?

I don't know. But AFAIK, Jones didn't pick out all the kids with United shirts and sign them beacuse he's a future United player.

But you accept the logic in a kid handing a new United player a United shirt to sign, yes?

Well yes. I just dont think it's worthy of a mention, as it's nothing.

Plus, he's not a Man United player yet anyway.

As far as we know. I would be surprised if it wasn't already tied up.
