Phil Jones to United | Transfer to Champions complete

He's definitely a United player. After he was pictured leaving the medical, the comments from Pearse confirmed it's a done deal.

Agree the shirt doesn't mean anything. I'm sure England internationals are used to signing all sorts of different club shirts. The kid may well have thrust in his direction on the basis of the recent news but he would have signed it regardless.

24 hours without the Caf and a lot of new pages here.

Can you tell me what's currently happening with the guy? Is he ours?

I thought they all had to abide by UEFA's window of 1 July? The kid is with England at the u21's so they won't officially announce it until he's back anyway. What am I doing in this idiotic forum?
Making it worse.

Why not announce it? He's done the medical, contracts can be signed via fax, if they weren't already.

Jones Deal Wrapped Up

Manchester United - Jones Deal Wrapped Up

It`s always a good feeling when somebody signs for us having turned down approaches from several of our main rivals.

Even more so when the rumours of a possible approach for the player got those anticipation levels rising!

Manchester United wasted no time in wrapping up the signing of Phil Jones yesterday, paying Blackburn Rovers a fee, reportedly, of £16.5 million for the talented 19 year old.

It`s also being reported that Jones has put pen-to-paper on a five year deal that will see his initial salary start at a cool £40,000 a week (nice pocket money for a 19 year old) and rising throughout the term of his contract.

All that remains to be seen now is whether Jones, who is viewed as the long term successor to Rio Ferdinand can force his way into the starting eleven or whether his appearances will be somewhat sporadic as Sir Alex Ferguson and his coaching team nurse him through the early stages of what should be a lengthy career with Manchester United.

Although he does arrive with a glowing tribute from a certain Wayne Rooney who is quoted as having remarked about Jones,

"He`s one of the toughest defenders I played against last season."

They seem to be sure its all done and dusted.

Because a simple message on the site won't garner as much media attention as a photo-shoot with a couple of new signings holding United scarves.

So the won't be announcing a deal for three weeks even though it's all done and dusted, so they can wait for the photos?

Loads of rubbish, I'm afraid. Deals like Valencia or Owen were hardly done with any major fuss. Deal done, announcement on the website, a couple of photos with the club photographer, and when pre season training resumes Fergie takes some pics with his new signings. Hardly anything new.

For the last friggin time; the transfer window doesn't open until 1 July you lunatics.

yet?

It's the same reason the scousers haven't yet officially announced the Henderson deal, they're at the u21's.

Also to perhaps give another view on the recent transfer activity at Manchester United – over the past 12 months we’ve signed the two stand out centre halves who will go into the Euro under 21 championships as first choice. The combined fee for both looks to be in the region of £26/27m.

Sounds a lot but when you consider we paid £29.1m for Rio Ferdinand alone it goes some way to explaining why signing future talent these days is a risky and seemingly expensive risk that could pay off well. If you looked at signing Ferdinand & Terry in their prime you’d be looking at £50m plus.

We're "waiting on Blackburn to complete legal formalities at their end before we can formally confirm signing of Phil Jones" apparently

Twitter

Look at the lists he's following a mixture of (most recently) man utd players and blackburn players (in the past)

Hence, by my powers of investigations I thus conclude that this is a done deal.

That's lists that are following Jones, not ones he's following.

Jeez another United player on Twitter then, at least he can spell;)

Henderson deal confirmed despite being with u21.

A journalist on twitter said that untied are waiting for Blackburn to conclude legal formalities at their end before confirming
