where is the confirmation, please don't give false headlines....

The medical was confirmed on the news lads, we could all see him coming out of the place

Nothing else has been confirmed so calm down

Just saw the link few posts above... says 17ml..

Thats quite a lot.. I know he is young but is he that good?

Heh, love it on SSN they show a few clips of Jones making great challenges on Hernandez and Giggs, then they show the new Arsenal defender, Jenkinson, ballooning one over the bar in his highlight.

 saw that this morning

Put it this way. despite wanting to wait another year to sign him after scouting him in previous years, we moved in now in order to beat Arse and Pool to the transfer.

So yes, he's good now, and potentially fantastic.

Is he £17m? Who knows yet. Nani was that much, Rooney and Rio were more, and they've all turned out pretty good. In SAF we trust.

Not that this is the right thread for it, but Djourou was tremendous for the most part of the season. Though for whatever reason his form dipped after he came back from a few weeks lay-off with a shoulder. I don't know where he stands ATM, but he can play midfield too so I think he's a very good option to have in the squad. You have to keep in mind he's missed years of development time thanks to injuries, so is still catching up compared to other 24 year old international CB's.

Vermaelen is obviously our best defender. He's just a class act all-round, though he's not huge by any means and can be monstered by the big power-forwards. Djourour and Kos are quite similar in their key attributes, all three are quite classy defenders but none are the big gorilla defenders ala Vidic, that you need to complement each other's games.

We need a big defender with PL experience to come in, someone like Samba would be ideal. He just needs to attack the ball and marshal defences like Campbell used to, and allow Vermaelen/Kos/Djourou to mop up.

The Squid's a bit of a joke, his promising start didn't translate into anything when we needed it. Still, he was never going to be our first choice, and was unfortunately thrust into the limelight thanks to injuries to Vermaelen, Djourour and Kos throughout the season. Obviously Wenger wasn't planning on using him as much as he had to, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

As for signings. I expect there to be a fair bit of player movement this season. Both Denilson and Bendtner will be shipped out, which should fetch us a tidy sum. And it also means we'll need to sign at least another midfielder and a forward - I hope.

But everytime I see Le'Arse lose a goal, its either Djourou who's the culprit, not that I'm aiming at just one player, I don't see the lad as top four quality whenever I watch him.

Glichy has declined, Gibbs needs to step up big time... The best Defender you have is Sagna... So yes you need at least 1 CB.. I forgot Kos... I think he's decent too at times.

To be fair, the only thing you really need is a freakin' Striker or a player you'd be confident in that will take the chance when they get it...

If you get Falcao and have a pure finisher, you'll be challenging there again.

Cesc to me is no big loss too, you have Wilshere and Song with RVP playing in the hole and you wouldn't miss a bit of Cesc... ( As to me he's been playing out of position behind the hold ) Cesc will do a lot more damage if he played deeper and had more of the ball to me.

Its that back four and 1 quality striker your missing now, if you keep Walcott/Arshavin/Nasri there you still have a might wing base to use from...

Since we have quiet a few defenders now, what are the chances he is loaned back to Blackburn?

People asking about his price and asking how he actually plays should watch more of Blackburn to see how solid he was...

Even in MF he shone and was nicknamed the English Essien if I wasn't mistaken, everytime I watched him I was impressed, its the power and also pace for such a big lad and he looks so composed... Rare breed for a CB imo... I think he's going to be better than that Rodwell lad. Glad we got Jones instead.

People were worried about evans leaving but now it's o'shea. I don't think we'll sell o'shea. His experience, the fact he's usually fit for the majority of games in a season and I think it's an awful lot of changes in a summer. The fact jones/o'shea can play in a few positions is handy.

If we sign him, I think it's potentially a great move. The price isn't that big a deal. He's English and could easily spend the next 10+ years at United if he's good enough. So the price works out quite well. I mean Rooney, Rio etc were expensive but they've paid for themselves and some. His attitude on and off the pitch gives him a good chance

A newbie asked me to put this up.

Now that Pool have seemingly lost out on the lad, could they go all out for Shawcross. Afterall Dalglish is going all English.
So how similar are the two players, Jones and Shawcross? And which one is the better one?

Now I am not sure we can compare the two.

Very slim, he is going to play quite a few games for us next season both in defence and midfield I reckon. He will be nurtured as a defender though because that is where he belongs, but if we sell O'Shea and Gibson we will be very short in midfield cover.

No way. I'm sure part of the deal was that he goes straight in to Utd...no loan back deals. He'll want to be testing himself and learning with the Utd squad immediately.

Wasn't the loan back arrangement one of the issues with Aaron Ramsey joining?

Can someone give me the link to the confirmation of the medical completion? Can't find it.
You won't find it.

The only people who can confirm it as such are United and they're not confirming anything at the moment, they never do until the deal is signed and final.

The confirmation was the video on Sky last night which showed him at the hospital before he flew to Denmark to join up with the England squad.

He was seen coming out of a building of some sort. That's good enough confirmation for me.

Stuart Pearce just let out (inadvertently) both Henderson and Jones have signed deals.

Don't rate Shawcross. He hasn't come on this last 2 years. He's just an English Clogger.

I wouldn't expect any real updates on this now until after the under 21's tournament, seems all but signed though
