I agree. He was probably looking at him as a long term replacement for Rio/Vidic, but had to act quickly as soon as the others moved in.
I don't see Jones as the answer to the midfield. Obviously he could fill in the DM role, and possibly let Carrick have more freedom in some games, but no way do I see his #1 position as CM.
