Phil Jones Future | Reports: Observing United academy sessions

Nice to see him there today. The guy has been through a lot. His body is well and truely broken and I doubt he’ll be able to play again yet we still get silly posts

Phil is a red through and through. Remember him stood in with the united fans at Liverpool away a few years ago.
Hope he makes a good career as a pundit.

I wouldn’t go that far. Top level sport is cut-throat but somehow he’s survived so long getting paid a fortune for contributing absolutely nothing. I wish him all the best but in reality he’s been afforded a hell of a lot of leeway.
So? Don't we all wish for employers who stand by us during tough times? And people seem to shit on him just because he's got that. Also, it's not like he lucked his way into a contract with Man Utd. He had more ability than 99% of people and got rewarded for it.

Seeing him today the way he was I think some of our fans need to think before they make nasty comments about him. It was quite difficult watching him on Sky, he's clearly been through a lot.

He didn't look well to me. Looks like he's lost quite a bit of weight. Hope all is well

So what’s your point? He should be kept around for as long as he feels like hanging around? Again, I wish him the best but the vast majority of athletes who simply can’t turn up are done. There’s plenty of massively talented athletes who fall to the wayside for various reasons, not many are afforded what Phil Jones has been.

Who would realistically expect their employer to support them for half a decade or longer whilst they were unable to do their job, and in reality probably never able to do their job again? I certainly wouldn't expect my boss to pay me a living for that long. The club should have let him go 4 years ago, and had anyone other than the incompetent Woodward been in charge that likely would've happened. Its not nasty or hateful it's just facing the cold hard truth of the situation

Didn't realise I'd walked in to the Phil Jones fan club. You all wanting a new contract for him what?

Always gave his best. Always. It didn't went as we hoped and I don't have any problems with him.

We have had some others so called stars who did us a lot more harm than this guy.

Jones was willing to let Van Persie at full sprint kick him in the face to clear the ball. The last time he was on the pitch he was in tears when walking off the pitch at FT, patting the club emblem on his chest as he walked off.

I dont care about the memes, or childish reactions to the injuries that has plagued his career. The fact that Jones is an all heart and soul player when he actually gets to wear the jersey is unquestionable.

You can talk about a player respectfully even if he wont play for the club again. Its called not being a dick. Give it a try.

Agree. Jones has never been anything but fully committed to the club and the cause. Always rooted for him and was one of my favourite players when he was a regular.

I wish him a happy rest of his life, whatever he ends up doing.

No my point is his contract should be honoured, which the club has done and fair play to them for it. I feel for the circumstances that have led to Jones becoming a meme and I'm glad the club supported him through it.

Why are people so harsh towards one of our own players? He's had physical and mental issues and United have stuck bye him and tried to get him the help he needed.

He's not going to play for us again or be remembered as a great but I just don't get why people hate on him so hard.

I just remember this from back in 2015. Sorry if I'm not allowed to post links. I don't know why people are upset with Phil Jones--- talented player who just is injury prone-- it happens to a lot of players in a lot of sports. This shows how inept Woodward was, bc he had access to all of Phil Jones medicals and still offered him a new contract in 2019. We the fans didn't have access to all of this information. With Jones injury and health issues, Woodward should have passed on offering Phil another contract. If your Phil, I can't blame him for taking the contract-- we all would.

I take this as refering to the injury he had in 2015, not as a long term issue. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to play again, which he clearly did, and his contract wouldn't have been renewed.

The ongoing issues with his knees is a completely separate thing.

I think Pogba has similar knee issues, but people are happy to berate him and have sympathy for Jones.

Both players have had their playing career blighted by knee issues. I had keyhole surgery to deal with a meniscal tear back in November and I presumed all would be well by now, but, whilst it's better, I'm still in pain, to a greater or lesser extent, every day. I can't imagine ever being able to run again

I'll have to go back and see the consultant soon and see if anything else can be done. I can't say I fancy another operation though.

Whenever he played for us, he gave everything and more. He deserves our support.

True when on the pitch but haven't there been a lot of stories especially from Mourinho's time that he wasn't exactly eager to get back on there?

Stories don't equal the truth. I've read between the lines myself and I think Jones has likely had a torrid time and the club has done its best to support him. If that is the case, it's admirable.

Have a look at the knees over toes guy on Instagram he seems to have great success in helping athletes rehabilitate their knees having had a couple of operations himself.

An embarrassment that he was anywhere near Wembley today

Get a life pal.

Feel pity watching right now. But what a weird career.
Wonder why sky thought to get him on for this gig.

Yeah I'm intrigued by this, it was very unorthodox and I wonder if it was the club, player or Sky who had the idea. The way he just randomly showed up and it was never really addressed.

He certainly looked skinny but I didn't think he looked unhealthy and their was nothing else in his demeanour to suggest he was unwell. He did a decent job of speaking about the game and the team.

Whatever, feel bad for the way his career has panned out and wish him all the best. If he could, I'm sure he would have loved to be out there for us yesterday and for the past few seasons.

Anybody who has been training daily for years will lose muscle mass when they stop, which you have to imagine he has done. He's not part of the squad anymore and all signs point to a retirement in the summer. I doubt he's in Carrington every day keeping himself up to scratch.

The alternative is he has lost a bit weight on purpose to reduce the pressure on his knees.

Pretty sure people dont berate Pogba for just having knee issues.

As for Phil he didn't give himself a contract in 2019 its hard to blame him for this, the club gave him the contract same for others who have gotten extensions in the last few years.

My point is, if this blood clotting thing was an ongoing issue, then he wouldn't have been able to continue playing. It must only relate to that specific injury in 2015.

With the amount of "embarrassment" the club has created over the years I'm surprised United still have any fans

Watch United win the cup...I know how to celebrate, lets slag of Phil Jones on the cafe! take a bow

Thank god that he is squeezing the last penny out of his already ridiculously long contract rather then simply retire. He truly loves us

Yes, curse him for signing the contract the club offered him.

He will likely never earn that amount of money again in his life. The blame lies with those that signed off on the extension rather than Jones.
