Apart from you having the worst name I ever heard, when was this disease reported? I honestly completely missed this.

I just remember this from back in 2015. Sorry if I'm not allowed to post links. I don't know why people are upset with Phil Jones--- talented player who just is injury prone-- it happens to a lot of players in a lot of sports. This shows how inept Woodward was, bc he had access to all of Phil Jones medicals and still offered him a new contract in 2019. We the fans didn't have access to all of this information. With Jones injury and health issues, Woodward should have passed on offering Phil another contract. If your Phil, I can't blame him for taking the contract-- we all would.

Why is he not playing? He doesn’t look injured?
To be fair he looks right in place amongst the punditry team. He doesn’t even look or talk like someone thinking about getting back on the pitch for us.

He's been quite well spoken and seems pretty natural, hope it's something he can get into.

He looks pretty gaunt and thin. Especially for a player who hasn’t been playing football consistently. I really hope he’s not been suffering with any physical health problems off the field.

To the people that are weirdly angry with Phil Jones because he's injured I'd suggest checking out the 'under the cosh' podcast, episode with Malcolm Christie. Its sad he's had his career ruined by injury then he has to put up with idiots acting like it's his fault

Pleased to see Jones being on TV, the fella struggled with injuries and I hope he finds something after he leaves end of this season, whether he retires or keeps playing I wish him only the best

Is it not likely there might be mental health issues as well? It's alright fans taking the piss 'cos he's getting paid for not playing but it must be soul destroying for him.

His knee is destroyed. Whenever he tries to run it just swells up.

Doesn’t help when he goads them about living in their moms basement.

He doesn't look drastically thin. Certainly not as buff as he was in his playing days but that's to be expected if you've not been training hard.

Anyone who is angry at Phil Jones needs to have their Mancheser United fan hallpass revoked and launched into the sun. Or grow up and behave like an adult, whichever is easiest.

People go way over the top with this shit. Im sure he wishes his injuries hadnt hampered him so much, but the guy ended up playing about 200 premier league games, playing in every big stadium in europe, won a Premier League title, captained a premier league team and played nearly thirty times for his country. If you compare him to pretty much every person to ever try play the game, hes had enormous success and will have seen guys he played with fall away at 18 or 19 and end up working in call centres. He's fine I'm sure. Financially sorted to boot and potentially retiring with more success than most players dream of.

How is it not his fault? I never get injured. The closest I’ve ever come to a hamstring was trying to balance a tea cup. So I only do pints now. There is always a way around these things.

Pretty much. Will just see out his contract and retire.

Sucks for him but that's life.
I like the lad and his football luck just turned on him. Like you said, life can suck at times. Hopefully, he has used this period to develop himself for life after football because most former player never really had the time to.

This. Lots of very strange posts ITT. Says a lot more about the character of the posters than it does of their opinion of Phil Jones.

Hopefully he didn't spunk his money and invested it wisely etc. He seems to be a smart enough man, but can't see him going into management

The problem many of you have is that you get too personal about anything said about him.

Fact is he's been a largely terrible signing and it was a bad decision to renew his contract. Any other competent club would have got rid years ago. We are happy to be critical of every other player who has played for United, so I see no reason to treat Jones any differently just because he's constantly injured, as if he wants or needs our pity. Being critical of Jones the footballer doesn't mean anyone hates the man or harbours anger towards him. Obviously we all wish him the best when he leaves the club

Football fans do a lot of illogical things, but this is right up there. As if someone would put all the effort they have to put in to become a professional footballer, get a big move, wait for Ferdinand and Vidic to retire, and then just think ‘nah feck it’.

But if you look as the way some fans talk about, then ‘harbouring anger towards him’ is an accurate description. Not everyone of course, but some are certainly guilty of that.

One thing you can fault him is trying. He always gave his best on the field and surely he gave his best to come back. Hope he has a good and healthy future ahead of him.

On the flip side those aren’t criticisms of him playing, they are being personal and criticizing him for being injured, he can’t help it. Criticism of contracts is one thing, calling him names because he’s injured is another thing

He looks really skinny, almost like how skinny Fletcher got when he was initially diagnosed with his condition.

Hope Jones hasn’t had anything serious

Great to see him again, it's been so long that speculation inevitably runs wild, so for him to put himself up for appearing on screen to talk about the game today really feels positive for us as fans to see.
