Phil Jones Future | Reports: Observing United academy sessions

The Phil Jones pity party is getting a bit tiresome. There have been far better United players, that have put in better performances, who have been hooked at half time without kicking up a fuss afterwards. He seems like a bit of a diva to me.

It's not like he subbed him in the first half. He was subbed off at half time for Sancho, it was an attacking change after going 2-0 down. Totally reasonable from Rangnick. His ego was hurt, which is also understandable, but Rangnick did nothing wrong.

So he decided to join the weekly “let’s bash rangnick” party

I'm generally very sympathetic towards the guy but he comes across as someone extremely tone-deaf there. It's not about you, it's about getting the result and being 2:0 down at Anfield with zero shots at goal (I'm not bothered enough to check but it sounds believable) is a situation where you need to change something drastically. Bringing an attacking player on for a defender is literally the most normal move you can do as a manager in such a scenario.

I would completely understand if he was angry and frustrated at the time — who wouldn't be — but bringing this up years later with the same attitude? I haven't expected Jones to fail to understand the very basic rule of football (collective success is more important than the individual one and sometimes you have to sacrifice the latter to even get a chance at the former), especially with him being one of the few that actually still played under Fergie.

Edit: I'm pretty sure we actually started with a back 5 if this is the game that I'm thinking about, which makes his complaint even more childish.

I'm amazed he was fit to play...

Shows you how mundane the lives of footballers are. What he's bringing up as a sore memory is like a child at 7 being denied something they really wanted and therefor that is the absolute worst day of their lives and their parents are horrible type thing.

With him being an easy going and level headed character for a footballer, you can just imagine the different drama queen problems in that dressing room.

Jeez, sit down Quagmire. That sub was perfectly fine from Rangnick - the mistake was probably starting Jones in the first place.

Yeah I'm sure the whole dressing room was raging because you Phil were coming off at half time, you were that good.

Honestly my least liked United player of all time, give me Tevez, Di Maria and Heinze combined and I still don't like dislike them as much as this deluded ego maniac bellend.

If he was made to give up his shirt number for Varane he'd probably be bitching about it being the most humiliating experience of his career. Jones was lucky to even start that match against Liverpool.

The funniest part of this interview is when he mentions how all the players in the dressing room at halftime were shocked or surprised when Rangknick subbed him. The early career hype he recieved really did a number on Jones

He's treated like a God on here. Statistically the worst manager we've had.

That podcast with Jones was a great listen.

How dare you

Is he still? I would have thought Ten Hag last season gave him a run for his money.

when i read the headline I thought he'd been hooked after 20 minutes or something

what a wet wipe

ten Hag still has a 57% win rate which is 2nd highest behind Mourinho post SAF. Rangnick had a 37% win rate over 29 games. Even Moyes had above 50%.

This. 100%.

But there were a few memes ridiculing his face which wasn't a very nice experience for him. So let's go easy on the lad. He deserves our utmost respect for being a good servant. Or something.

For months he knew that he will retire at the end of the season but unlike some other players (G.Neville for example) he decided to collect wages for doing nothing, retired when contract ended and then he got the job in the club.
And now he goes against previous manager. This guy has no shame.

That says more about you

Not that I agree with the poster but as much as I dislike Di Maria and Tevez for how they behaved, at least they moved on with their careers and did something other than fostering a pity party to prop up their 'achievements'.
I hate going over this same old ground again on this particularly since the player has left:
My point, none of us know why he was kept on / stayed. It may for example be because he was getting treatment and was not yet aware that he would have to medically retire.
People are being very harsh on a lad who put his body on the line in aid of Manchester United. In return he gets called names and his professionalism questioned.
That says a lot more about the fan base that we have. On that basis I’m going to close this to stop people getting themselves banned
