'Good' defender that costs the team a few games a season by himself. The idea that fans are emotional is proven with this thread.
When fit he was always starting for Ferguson. It was often a different position each match.
Jones had a really good game today. There were so many occasions when it was him heading the ball away, making important tackles and interceptions. I still worry about his lack of composure at times, but he deserves plaudits for his performance today. He was positionally excellent today. And everytime one of his teammates got caught out of position, Jones was the one directing/berating them.
He's the best leader we have at CB.
Yep - 15mil plus add ons would be good business
If you ever wanted confirmation about whether football is a fickle game, I point you to this thread...

This . Jones cost us a cup final last season and has cost us against Valencia with top spot up for grabs in our CL group. When he has to win a battle with a decent player his limbs go flying everywhere in a panic.
This thread is quite funny compared to other defender threads. Smalling can put any physical forward in his pocket including someone like Kane, yet Jones gets just as much credit for playing well while not being tested against relegation fodder.
And play who? Jones has comfortably been the best member of our backline in the last two games under Ole. He won't be dropped for some things that happened in the past.I'm not getting sucked in. We've been down this road far too many times. Jones is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off . If Ole is a clever man he must drop Phil Jones before he costs the team again.
That is a weird way of seeing things. Anyway we will see in the summer if he doesn't sign a new contract.Post in this thread exemplify why we are where we are
A player non of the other top teams would be interested in, has no business playing for us
Is anyone actually asking for him?
This is going to end up like Fellaini, isn't it? We will sign a new improved contract with a player no one wants even for free. Fellaini is at least far less injury prone.
Wait when we actually play a decent team . Doing the bare minimum doesn't mean anything against the relegation fodder. he's shown on multiple occasions that he cannot be trusted against the better teams and attackers and starts to panic. Giving players like Jones chance after chance with different managers is the reason we are in this position. And play who? What is wierd about it? We have an injury prone mediocre CB, who is always a moment away from costing us a game, and you have people on here talking like if he is some quality CB.That is a weird way of seeing things. Anyway we will see in the summer if he doesn't sign a new contract.
If he's not fecking injured all the time, Jones and Smalling pair would be good enough for us to challenge the League.

Its bad enough that Jones has been with us for this long, but the idea that some would see him remain beyond this summer is just shocking

I'm not saying that Jones is great or whatever, but because another top team wouldn't be in for a player - not just Jones - does not mean he shouldn't be playing for a club. No one even know which clubs will be in for Jones if he doesn't sign a new contract. What is wierd about it? He didn't just do the bare-minimum. He was impressive in both games, led the backline and did most of the defending against Cardiff. Every player gets a clean slate according to Ole, and based on the last two games, he's justified the chance he's got and does not deserve to be dropped any more than Lindelof(re your first post).Wait when we actually play a decent team .
